update - DH tried the HG10, and realized that you can't import the footage without using the included software. Also, he wouldn't have been able to edit the AVCHD footage in Premiere, which is what he knows. So, it looks like the HV20 is the winner this time...although he just showed me today Sony's new HD cam coming out in February that will be Adobe editable...wonder how much that thing will cost...
