Thoughts on my solo trip idea?

I'm thinking of doing a solo trip in March. I'm from NY, and try I go to WDW as much as I possibly can. With my last spring break ever coming up (I graduate college this fall), I can't help but want to go back to my favorite place on earth. Here's my issue. I've gone so much in the last few years that I've pretty much exhausted my list of people to ask to go, so I'm having a very hard time finding a trip companion.

Then I had an idea. I'm a indie filmmaker and songwriter, and a "writers retreat" of sorts is something I've always wanted to do. Right now I'm toying with the idea of heading to Disney for a few days in March, bring my laptop, keyboard and guitar, and just spend some time in the parks, and work on some projects with some great inspiration and a relaxed mindset (I relax and sleep better in Disney than I do in my own home).

I'm 24 years old, and have never done WDW alone before. (Though I did do a solo day at US/IOA this past Thanksgiving weekend)

Any tips/thoughts on something like this?

I completely understand your 'need' to make another trip to WDW. Generally I go to WDW with my family (3 kids!). But with 2 in college and one in hs, money and time is tough. A year and half ago, I went to a conference for work in Orlando. I decided to extend my time and spent 3 nights a WDW (POP)....solo! I was nervous, but ended up having one of my best trips!

I could do what I wanted, when I wanted! I ate where and when I wanted! I brought stuff to read & texted, etc. a lot at meals...but really enjoyed the experience. Due to money constraints BUT the 'need' to go back to WDW... I am thinking of booking 4 nights in Dec (never been for Xmas decorations!).

you have a great plan, do it!:dance3:

I go the week after Thanksgiving, arriving Saturday and leaving late the following Saturday. All the resorts are decorated for Xmas and it seems like as hard as I try, I can never get to all of them.

This year, I decided to focus on the resorts and the "experience" of vacationing and less on the parks. What did I end up with - an 8 day, all resort, no parks trip. And it was one of the best trips I have ever been on.

I read four books. I spent time everyday at the pool. I spent time relaxing in the room. I got dressed up each night for dinner at a different resort each night, and had some of the most fantastic dinners I have ever had.

And when I got home, I really was so relaxed and wasn't tired and worn out, like I usually am. So I can so relate to your desire to "take it down a notch."

Might I suggest Sanaa at Kidani Village/AKL - the concierge desk made me a ressie for just around dinnertime. The animals were all up walking around foraging for food, so they were very active. It was fantastic - made up for the fact that my fav place, Kouzzina's, was closed for a refurb.

Also, mid-afternoon lunch at the GF Cafe; it was like sitting in someone's sun porch for an afternoon lunch, overlooking the courtyard. Fantastic service.

A leisurely water taxi ride from POR to DTD to OKW for breakfast at Olivia's. Back to DTD for a little shopping and then lunch at SSR at the Turf Club. Both absolute gems. A pedi/mani at the Spa and back to POR just in time for the lounge to open for an evening of drinking and socializing.

I am sure you can find a couple DISers to meet up with while you are there. Although, I bet it would be fun to do whatever you want when you want to. I would be interested in hearing what you think after your trip.

Sounds Heavenly to me! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the replies! I did some more thinking about it since last night, and the more I thought, the more I liked the idea. Just booked 4 days/3 nights at Pop Century in March. Theres something even more exciting about it when you book on such short notice, knowing I'll be there in just 3 short weeks!

Congrats!! Now you get to begin your countdown! I bet you will meet wonderful people at the retreat who will be more than happy to do the parks with you. What an exciting time!!! Please let you know how the trip goes. I will be thinking about you! :yay:

Sounds like FUN!! I am jealous! I'm planning a solo trip for September 2012 (a year and a half away :sad2: ) but I am having health issues right now otherwise you would have inspired me to take a quick trip. I SO wanna go...but you'll have an AWESOME time I am sure!

Have fun!!

Congratulations on planning your first solo WDW visit! I have a feeling you'll return solo many times. :)

I love visiting WDW with family and friends, but I also treasure my solo visits. If my body wants down time, that's what I do. If I'm up and ready for rope drop (very rare until the last day or two due to time difference and nigh-own tendencies), off I go! And I can close down the parks! :goodvibes

They're two totally different experiences and equally enjoyable in their own way. A bit like comparing Disneyland to WDW--wonderful, but different experiences. :)

Have a wonderful trip!

If you're someone who enjoys spending time alone, you'll have a blast! I have been to WDW and DL solo, and I love it. You can ride what you want when you want, relax at the resort when you want, eat when you want sit and people watch when you want. It's awesome.

Also from NY, also in the arts, also planning my first solo to Disney! I'm so excited and was going to plan a few week out trip, but settled on the wine/dine 1/2 marathon which is of course set. I am SUPER JEALOUS. My last trip was though not solo (with a BF) was at CBR but just 3 weeks out and it HURT waiting for it. I don't look good in green so will not put up a jealous emoticon. But trust me. It's there.
