Thoughts on master bath with no tub

So not using the master bedroom then either? I guess that makes it more logical.
No, he sleeps in the master bedroom, he just uses the shower that's in the bathroom right outside the master bedroom, and not the glass shower attached to the master bedroom.

Ah, I think I finally understand it. I had in my mind you were talking about heading upstairs to use another bathroom rather than the master and couldn't figure out why someone would schlep to another level to use a different bathroom if they didn't need to. It took me long enough, but I finally understand.

LOL, if that were the case, maybe to get the extra steps on a fitbit for the day? Nope, our bedrooms are all on the same floor around here.

I think the key is to make a spectacular shower area. I know someone who removed the tub but their shower was really nothing to write home about. They basically added a couple fancy shower heads and made the space a little bigger. It really wasn't that great. They are actually talking about selling and I am willing to bet big bucks that that will be a detractor; no tub and a mediocre shower. On the other hand, I have a friend that had a house built minus the tub and had a fantastic shower system put in place. If they ever sell, I highly doubt anyone would even notice the lack of tub.

Our jetted tub gets used on a regular basis by dd. When she was little she used to have winter "pool" parties in it with 2 friends :rotfl2:.

In the 10 years we've been in the house I've been in it once. I don't think dh has ever used it.

Dd is almost off to college so if we get to the point of remodeling I'd remove it.

Ha ha

Sounds like us. When DD was young she would put on her bathing suit and swim in our tub all evening.
Shes 12 now and didnt at first use it since she was about 6-7 but we've had this store called Lush open at our mall.

DD loves their bath bombs so is back to using the tub 1-2 times a week.
Even I will buy an occasional bath bomb and use the tub.

We are talking about doing the same thing. We have a huge jetted tub which I will admit when our hot tub was broke I did use every once in awhile to soak in with a good book and a glass of wine. We have replaced the hot tub now and the tub in the master is just in the way. I want to take it out, expand the shower and make it glass on two sides and put in just a small claw foot tub. Our shower is one of those hateful fiberglass ones and while bigger than most it's still so small you can barely turn around in it and forget taking a shower together (ahem we do that to save water don't you know). We also have two full baths upstairs with tub/showers so there are plenty of tubs in the house even if we moved and took the hot tub with us.

When we built our house, we opted for a larger shower with a built in bench in the master suite. The other bathrooms have tub/shower combos. Our neighborhood is all custom builds. Of the houses I've visited ( most of them), only a couple have a tub in the master. All the rest have large showers. I can't remember the last time I had a tub bath.

Now, my best friend LOVES to soak. They converted an unused bedroom (they had 5) into a gorgeous bath with a soaker tub for her and a big shower for her DH. But it cost a LOT because of the need to run new plumbing lines. They'll be selling in the next year or so and I doubt they'll see much of a return on the reno.

Soliciting some opinions. We are thinking of remodeling our master bath and removing the jetted tub. We want to expand our shower and really make that nice.

We never use our tub and have three other bathrooms with tubs in the house if we ever need one.

Anyone do this? What do you think of this idea?

We only have a walk-in shower in our master bath because I am not supposed to take baths. Have never missed it at all. When my DH had his knee replacement this past year it really came in handy as he could sit on the bench and I could aim the showerhead at him. Also useful when giving our dogs baths! I'd say go for it.

I'd go with your plan for a shower as as long as you have regular tubs in other baths.

I'm not a fan of jetted tubs. The are too much work to thoroughly clean on a regular basis.

Our last two houses had the big jet tubs, we never used them. This one has a big giant tub and never gets used. The shower is ridiculously small, no holders or ledges to put anything on. If either of us were more than average size we'd have to shower in one of the other bathrooms. Our plan is to rip out the tub and make the shower one big double shower, shower heads and jets on both ends and a bench all the way around. That will definitely get used. Heck, might not be able to get me out of it! I say go for it!

I can never get past that on the HGTV shows. All thought of luxuriously relaxing fades away awfully quick when I realize I've got to turn around and face the chore of cleaning that thing when I'm done soaking. Not so relaxing in my mind.

I'm 58 and none of the 3 houses I have lived in had a bathtub in the master bath. The guest (or kids) bathroom always had a tub/shower combo.

I hate the tub in my master bath and would love a bigger shower. I haven't taken a bath in years and it's just one more thing to clean that I'm not ever using.

I prefer not to have a tub. We have bought a condo in a building under construction now and had them take out the tub from the plans and expand the shower in the extra space.
I don't really use a tub, and don't enjoy cleaning them or having them taking up valuable space.

If you plan to stay in the house for life, id say, go for it. But if not, id reconsider it, when selling your house, it could be a feature of the house, and perhaps even lower the price of the house. YMMV most definitely.

Voting for Big Shower and no tub!!!!! Since you already have a couple of tubs it won't hurt selling down the road?

I say you should do what you want to do if it makes you happy. And I am jealous that you have a house with 4 full baths!

I had a house built 4 years ago and put in a 5 foot shower in the master bath. I love it. There is a tub in the hall bath.

I say do what you want! But it's amazing to me how many people don't use tubs. Really? Yowza...I LOVE my bathtub. It is my saving grace, lol. Hot water is cheaper than therapy...I have a lot of fibromyalgia pain and degeneration in my neck (at 27...), sometimes a hot bath is all that keeps me from wanting to cry due to the pain. We would never buy a house without a master bath tub, and my husband knows that, lol, but obviously I am in the minority!

Do what makes you happy :thumbsup2 it's your house!
