Okay- let me start with a confession. I do NOT iron. That said, I find myself with an iron in my hand at 7 am- now how did that happen? I seriously suspect it is related to the joyous disease referred to in another thread- S.D.D., yup- it's that Single digit Delirium- I know it is. Why else would I find myself at Walmart- saying" yup- I need an ironing board." I am 47 years old- never needed an ironing board before- but now I gotta have one. Using the towel on the table just doesn't cut it these days. I wasn't even sure I owned an iron a week ago. Now I got an ironing board. Go figure. It's gotta be S.D.D.- I never even noticed wrinkles before. I just don't buy clothes that need to be ironed. I mean why would you? If I do buy clothes that, after the first washing appear too wrinkled -I give them away. Easy. No brainer right?
So I have been "enlightened" and educated. A few things I learned just today-
1. You have to iron the pockets of pants before you do the legs.Otherwise the legs are messy no matter what you do. It just gets more complicated doesn't it.
2. Ironing checks or gingham makes me queezy. Now why is this? Plaids are fine, florals -no big deal. But that blue ginghom pants suit- yikes. If it needs to be ironed again I will cringe. Or better yet- just give it away. Problem solved.
3. You CAN not do the Single Digit Dance with an iron in your hand. Or at least you can't do it without risking serious injury. Another good reason to avoid irons- I mean they can HURT you! Ironing and S.D.D. is a dangerous combination- like bleach and ammonia- hazordous to your help.
4. Steam helps. I have been pondering the physics behind this and I just don't get it. But steam does help. I do have a word of warnign though regarding steam. If your iron has been sitting for a decade or more be sure to allow the steam to escape for about five minutes to avoid rust stains. I think it has something to do with the cobwebs inside being exposed to moisture after so long.
Spider web revenge- yeah, thats it.
5. You can always blame wrinkles on lack of packing skills. And oh yeah- my kids packed their own clothes.
6. Do not leave the iron unattended while you check the board. Especially if you have cats. That smell is hard to get rid of.

Please ignore my wrinkles- I really am a decent person. I tried valiantly- I deserve credit for effort right? I mean- I bought an ironing board for crying out loud! I gotta go- I smell something burning.......

My DS asks me on a semi-weekly basis why steam helps. I've never been able to answer it either, LOL!

Cute thread---especially the burning cat part! LOL!

If you guys only knew Jeanne434 you would know that this is truth and nothing but the truth. Jeanne literally had to search high and low for that iron and even called me for help on how to turn it on:tongue:

OMG....you guys are too funny!! ROTFL!!

On the serious side...
I remember my dear Grandmother ironing everything ~
I am talking sox, handkerchiefs, pillowcases, t-shirts, the works... with never the less the old iron that you heat on the cook stove! Bless her heart ^i^. Thank God for modern technology and needless to say, I do not take after my GM...LOL!

We've found packing all the dress things in the cleaner plastic bags help tremendously w/very few wrinkles. Tip ~ you can hang the dress clothes in the cabin bath room w/shower running and door shut for few minutes to allow for that famous steam press. I refuse to touch an iron on vacation!! Enjoy your trip! ;)

My MIL irons jeans, only person I know with a crease down the front of jeans! Have to laugh everytime I see it.

My MIL irons jeans
I do too! Except that I iron them "open" so I don't have a crease!

Hard to believe that Jeanne434 and I are sisters. I iron my clothes every morning. Of course I tend to ignore the back side because I can't see what it looks back there:p

I'm guessing that if a DS asks twice or so a week about steam irons then that must mean you iron that often. Yikes- you must cruise alot!

Hey, lots of Texans have creases in their jeans! Esp. young male country types that take their jeans to the dry cleaners.

Have you ever ironed just the front of a blouse because you will have a sweater or blazer over it?
Then it gets so hot in the office and you can't take off your sweater or blazer?
I still have my ironing to do but then I haven't been able to do the SDD yet.
Have a great trip.

Donna:eek:

Lol! I found that a very entertaining post!

I'm a laundry tech, I can answer laundry questions! :p

Steam helps by introducing very hot moisture to relax the fiber the fabric is made out of. Probably more than you wanted to know.

Now for some serious tips:

There are irons free to use in the guest laundry if you're in a real bind shipboard.

I have seen posted before a very smart tip to relax wrinkes; Put them in the shower bathroom (NOT IN THE SHOWER) and put it on hot for a few minutes to steam the room up real good. This goes back to the steam comment above, just a hot steamy room will relax a lot of packing wrinkes.

Now about the jeans.. Up here some like them so stiff with starch that the pants can literally stand up by themselves, much less a little 'ol crease in them. They get pressed in a press that would crush anything less than denim.

BWAHAHAHAHAAA :teeth: :teeth:

Only cruised once---iron every day :(

I sure think it should be the other way around though!! :teeth:

OMG, LOL!!!!

I did that when I got called at the last minute to substitute one morning. It was in the winter and I was wearing a coat that was shorter than the Blazer, so I was going to carry the blazer to school.

Guess what I forgot

Needless to say, I stayed out of the faculty room that day :teeth:

OMG....what a crack up post!!!! I too HATE ironing so I can definitely relate. However, my fav tees are ones that wrinkle easy - I just wear them anyway except I'm finding I will probably have to put them in the bathroom with me when I shower cause I don't want to embarrass my dd and be a slob on the cruise.

But thanks for the laugh - I needed that today!!!!
