Thoughts on Downtown Disney hotels.

Hi all,
I've been reading about DTD hotels and was wondering if anyone had a recommendation on which one. Its hard to tell which one is closest to DTD. I know there's a new hotel called B resort. I looked for pics but they didnt have any of the pool area. Probably still working on it.

The recommendation is best made with more personal information about your needs. How many are in your party? Adults and children?

The closest hotel I am not sure about but I think the Hilton Lake Buena Vista is very close. If you look online you can find maps of the hotels and DTD. I alos think the Buena Vista Palace is close. I havent stayed at either.

We are booked at the Hilton Doubletree Suiteslater this month and I know it is considered one of the farther DTD hotels, but we want a suite hotel and I am using Hilton points to stay, so only Hiltons will do. With regard to budget, some charge a resort fee per night....some do not. This may matter to you - it matters to me. Most, if not all, charge for parking. But the ability to stay inside the "gates" of Disney and avoid traffic on the main roads in important to many.

We are traveling with teenagers and want to give them easy access to the parks and DTD without needing to be transported by parents. Like I said, it is very personal.

The full service Hilton is directly across street from DTD, it is the closest hotel. It has standard hotel rooms and suites. Many rooms have DTD views and you can also see park fireworks.
It also has park early entry privlages.

Pool is nothing special, Parking fee daily and resort fee daily.
After all the fee's you could stay at a Disney value or Mod resort for the same or less money.

The doubletree suites has nice big rooms but it is a bit of a walk to DTD and also has daily parking and resort fees.

We stayed at the Royal Plaza and loved it. They upgraded us to a tower room which was beautiful and had a huge garden tub. We could also see fireworks but I'm not sure where they were from. There was a nice restaurant where kids ate free and the pool was huge but didn't really have a shallow end (we had life jackets and water wings so it wasn't a big deal) & they had towels at the pool. They have a Disney gift shop on-site. We walked to Downtown Disney in about 10 minutes. The bus service was great. Buses ran every 1/2 hour and we never got stuck waiting for one. We really enjoyed staying there.

Thank you for your replies. We probably will stay onsite but am thinking of Plan B which is off site. Looking at the resorts map...its hard to tell which one is closest...its just a cluster of stars. But I guess its LBV...I always thought it was the Hilton. And it may still be...just hard to tell.

The Hilton LBV, the Buena Vista Palace and the Wyndham LBV are all on the corner of DTD. That corner is sort of shaped like the number 7...with left side being DTD. All are about the same walk from the DTD bus stop.

We have stayed at the Holiday Inn and Hilton at DTD. With the Hilton being closest to DTD. While we only stay 1 night normally the night before check in at our Disney resort. But the reason being I have gotten such a good rate on line, or used points for a free night, but all the DTD hotel, charge for parking around 20 + dollars a night and that's self parking, plus a hotel fee. So I think with using our points, and the fees for 1 night was about 50.00ish. We did use the pools at both, they are nothing special other than being a nice pool.

I always vote to stay on property for lots of reasons, bus service, the theming can't be beat, no charge to park, or resort fee, and EMH are great , I know at one time some of the DTD hotel did participate or were allow for EMH not sure if this still is in effect. There is just something about waking up at the house of the Mouse..

We typically stay at the Best Western on Hotel Plaza Blvd. and love it as it meets everything we need for our trips to Disney. I stay at these hotels for work 95% of the time and rack up who knows how many points.

It works out that we can stay a week (plus) for less than $300 in their biggest suite. All of these hotels have buses that run to the parks just as any other "Disney" resort and we do not see the need to pay hundreds of dollars a night to stay when we really only sleep and shower at our hotel.

I have stayed at nearly every Disney resort at every level and they all look the same with my eyes closed at night.

The Buena Vista Palace is probably the "nicest" of any of the properties, though no reason for us to stay there due to our status (for lack of a better term) with Best Western.

None of these properties are bad hotels and I think you would not go wrong if you "had" to stay at one of them. The location is nice if you want to stroll over to DTD and just relax after a day at the parks or for a late night snack.

The Hilton does have EMH It's the only one that has that option. Me I would stay in the DTD area any time over Disney hotels. (When I see the pricing I just burst out laughing. They want WHAT?? For exterior corridors and subpar service LOL!)

Right now, they are offering upgraded rooms for $99 per night, and that includes waived resort fee, parking fee and includes breakfast, Wi-Fi. Also, I read that it can accommodate up to 5 guests, 4 being adults which beats Disney's adult charge for over 2 adults (18 and up) in each room for each person. The pool is open, the pool bar is not yet complete. You can read recent reviews on TripAdvisor.

We are staying at a hotel with points pre-cruise next month, but if we weren't using points, I would be seriously looking at this offer.

Just booked this (buena vista palace) for 13 nights in Sept.

This (travelzoo) price are SUPER Duper,so we booked 2 rooms ,even though we just needed 1.
This travelzoo sale,have been going on,seasonly, for atleast 5 years,for september stays,and we have stayed there 3 times.
NOTE that when you book (travelzoo links you direct to the hotel web cite),you will always get the WRONG TOTTAL price.
The resort fee that are waived (22$ a night) will turn up on your tottal,but it will be fixed when you pay at check out.
A 1 night charge only,will be taken from your credit card,when you book.

The good about this hotel :
You will basically get 1 pool by yourself...in september.
The balcony.
The great view...we always have a water view...you will get a gorgeous sunrise.
The rooms are "pretty large"
The AC are the quiest i have used in a hotel.
Short walk (4 min) to DTD.

The not so good :
Slow wi-fi (faster cable internet).
No chance to switch to HDMI on the tv (this seem to be the case most places),bcause they use a "standard hotel remote" to sell movies,and that remote dont have HDMI botton. And you cant get into the HDMI manually eigther...YEAH...i like to HDMI my pc to the tv to watch stuff.
The balcony doors can be dirty/diff to slide open.
ALL the soda cans in the soda mashines expire in 3-4 weeks. (these have an avarage 9 month fresh date). Yeah.i notice the taste between expire in 8 month,and expire in 9 month. Its undrinkable when it expire in 1 month.
The BIGGEST complaint on tripadvicer,on this hotel are the rediculess 22$ a night resort fee.
In general,people dont know about this,it seem. (300$) in my case.

They do sell refillable mugs (like disney).
This SUPER travelzoo deal 95$ a night w water view also include NO-RESORT FEE.
FREE Hot Breakfast.The breakfast are avsome,with everything,basickly.
On Sundays,the breakfast includes disney Characters.

Final Note:
The LYNX 111 bus DO NOT run anymore (the mears transport mafia finally manage to stop that),
From MCO to DTD (turnaroud at TTC).
So you CAN NOT pay 2$ to and from MCO anymore,and you can not pay 2$ and take the 111 bus to Florida Mall anymore.
SHAME ON THE ORLANDO MEARS TRANSPORT MAFIA.
And DTD looks like a construction site,for the moment. Im not sure if you will hear noise from that.

Based on Trip Advisor, The Holiday Inn at DTD gets a lot of positive feedback. The B Resort just opened last month, but they do have a facebook page and a web page.

Did you have to pay resort fees when staying on points? I know you still have to pay for parking but was wondering about the other fees....

We are staying at the Hilton Bonnet Creek, and when I made my reservation on points, it still listed the resort fee. I called and they said if you are booking with points, there is no resort fee. She said it varies by location and property, so you might want to place a call directly to ask, it was an easy call/answer.
Of course, there still is a parking fee.

I have stayed 9 times at hotel palza blv (DTD Hotles) over the last 14 years.
Whats "best" rely depends on what you priorities are.
The only hotel i have not stayed at are Holiday inn (formally Marriot).
The Royal Plaza have remodeled all their rooms,and have changed their name to The B.
I would rate the hotels like this,on a scale from 1-10,where 10 are best.

Best Western : 6
Double Three : 7
The B (formally The Royal Plaza) : 7
Hilton : 5
Buena Vista Palace : 8
...
The hotel closes to DTD-marked place are Hilton.
The Buena Vista Palace are the NB 2 closest.
...
The best pools and views are at the "Buena Vista Palace"
The best room space are at "The Double three by Hilton"
The Double Three and Best Western (formally Travelogue) are a 21 min walk to DTD,but if you walk the other direction, these have a 7 min walk to The XRoads...That have Supermarked (Goodings),mcD,UNO-Pizza,Taco bell,and many more.
