Hi Folks,

I'm back on the boards after a long time and am in full planning mode!!

I am planning a trip to Orlando in April 2004 for 5 lovely weeks!!

I would greatly appreciate any thoughts an the above carriers as in my previous trips I have flown the british flag and flown Virgin/BA etc. I am led to believe that it would be worth considering one of the American carriers in my forthcoming trip

Any scrap of info no matter how small would be greatly appreciated;)

Thanks folks

Welcome Back

Wow a trip for five weeks - you lucky thing. :D

We have travelled with United before via Washington, this was a good flight for us. Any specific questions, ask away.....

Thanks Kaylee

Wow! What a quick response!

I am interested in things like Legroom, In flight service, entertainment etc. The most important is legroom as I and 2 members of my party are all legs!!

Thanks

DH is 6ft 3in and he was fine with the leg room. On the way back we sat in the middle of the plane which was a little squashed, but window seats were fine.

Entertainment was good a selection of films and TV programmes. In flight service was good except for on the way back, my vegetarian meal was missing :( I did get a $50 voucher a couple of months after we returned.

Wow - five weeks sounds like quite a holiday :D

We've flown Delta, United & AA in the past and all were pretty decent. I'd have to give the biggest thumbs-up to AA for their 'more legroom in coach' programme. Compared to the likes of Virgin and BA you'll notice a big improvement in that department, i'm certain.

Entertainment has always been fine as well on the US carriers - not quite as much choice as the UK carriers, but not bad all in all.

Next trip we'll be flying direct with Virgin, due to taking our DS for the first time, however i'll certainly miss the extra legroom on AA :(

Paul

Thanks Peebee and Kaylee (again;) )

It's looking more and more like I will be spending my hard earned cash with an American carrier:D

Any more info out there??

United Vacations usually have good flight prices.....we are booked with United Vacations for this trip coming up, and we only have flights booked - no car hire or accomodation. They also allow 2 free stopovers and free connecting flight from other UK airports like Glasgow, Manchester, etc to Heathrow.

This is our second time using them, and we have been lucky enough to have been allocated seats in Economy Plus - a wee bit more room in economy plus than economy.

Here is there website

Hi, we have flown with all three of the mentioned US carriers as well as Virgin and BA. The only negative experience that we have had was with Delta in '98, but this was a flight to San Francisisco. I would never fly with Delta again, their inflight service was terrible. We were flying with a 6 month old and a 4 year old. Their idea of an infant meal was a freezing cold rusting can of baby food which was literally thrown at me!! Not to mention that we were lied to by their customer service people when we were booking the flight. Ah well you live and learn! Good luck with planning you holiday. Five weeks, I'm soooo jealous!!

DH has used United in the past to Washington and cant sing there praises high enough. He reckons, compared to Virgin they are HUGELY improved (we arent fans of Virgin though). Lots of legroom, great food, attentive (not rude) staff and good in-flight entertainment. A big thumbs up. I think he flew in their "premium" cabin, so that may have been a bit better than cattle class though!

We are using BA this trip, but may use United if we go at Christmas. Good luck planning your trip!

Allie.

We used AA in Feb and Oct of last year and had seat back TVs in both cases so I suppose there is some variation. Once was out of LHR and once out of LGW so that's no help! Liked AA, great legroom and good food. Transfers were via JFK and caused no problems at all. We have also flown Delta via Atlanta (and will again in April next year. Similarly, seat back TVs and good service. OK legroom. I think I liked Delta more actually, but I'm not sure why! HTH
BTW most US carriers now charge for alcoholic drinks. Soft drinks are usually free and unlimited.
On the internal legs you may be charged for the use of headphones (about $2 but you do get to keep them!) I usually take my own.

Hi

I've flown AA many times before in economy, business and once in first, and every time has been a pleasure.

Great staff, lots of legroom and adequate in-flight entertainment. If you can get a good deal - go for it. We still prefer Virgin (in-sight entertainment and cabin crew), but with their prices at the moment I think next time we start thinking of booking we will go with an american carrier in to Tampa Int'l airport - much cheaper!

Good Luck.

Richard. :)

Have flown with all of the carriers+ Northwest, BA , Virgin etc etc and most of them several times. AA a shade better than the rest, but nothing much between them. Have had some good flights, and some with hiccups so to speak. So now I just choose reasonable prices and hope that this also equates to reasonable flight times etc, and just hope for the best!
