Thoughts on Boatwright's?

For our next trip, my fiance and I are going to stay at POFQ and thinking about going to Boatwright's. The menu looks good to us, but so few people review it on the boards! Anybody have experience there? Any things to definitely check out or avoid? We love most foods.

The food is alright, nothing really great IMO. It is fine if you are staying at POR or even POFQ and plan on just hanging around the resort for the night. With all the other dining options there are at WDW, we would not go out of our way to eat there.

I found it to be very bland and unmemorable.

Not a bad option (but not a great one either) if you're staying at POR or POFQ and want something convenient, but certainly nothing to go out of your way for.

dw and i went there on our last trip. the food was good but not as good as some of the other places we went to on that trip. the service was good and the server was on the ball. i would not go out of my way to go there again but i would not avoid eating there either. as the pp said this place is just not memorable

NOTE: Boatwrights used to get good reviews, but over
the past two years has really gone down hill in the food quality
department. In our opinion, it is below average - convenient for
resort guests but not recommended. If staying at POR, we do
recommend walking to POFQ for their food court.

I have never eaten there but have seen mediocre reports. You are probably better off to take the boat to DTD and eat there.

I guess I will be in the minority here but we ate there last sept. and really liked it. DH had prime rib, DD had pork chop and both liked it. Can't remember what I had but I guess it wasn't terrible!!!

We used to stay PORS all the time and so ate in Boatwrights a lot and was so good had best prime rib and then it changed we tried it four years ago and was still not very good. Have not been back to try it.

I haven't eaten there, but I think its sort of in the same category as The Wave and a few other resort options. I think people would rather travel for something more memorable than a menu filled with mostly choices that they can get from a restaurant at home (or cook themselves at home).

There are so many choices at WDW, I don't think most visitors are going to want to settle for something they can get all the time - even if it means going out of their way.

Boatwright's also suffers from being a small spot jammed between the guy performing whose name totally escapes me and the food court. I wouldn't think that most nights it'd be a nice, fairly quiet dinner.

Well, just a bit ago, my fiance and I decided to think about staying other places and we may go with Wilderness Lodge...which means we'll try Artist Point. This makes me feel a lot better about skipping Boatwright's! Thanks!!

I had a great meal there about 13 years ago... haven't been back since though.

Wish I could help. They had a soup I loved!! She Crab soup... yummy!

French Quarter has huge po'boy sandwiches, gumbo, and beignets. They also have a creole burger that I want to replicate at home. Its a burger topped with fried shrimp and remoulade sauce. I definitely prefer the pofq food court WAY over por.

We have eaten here twice out of our last 3 trips. Both times has been on the free dining plan. Basically I think if you are on the free dining plan, it is a good place to check out, nothing fancy, but stick to your ribs comfort food really. But if you are paying out of pocket (like we will be our up coming trip) I say skip it, it is truly over priced for the quality.

that said, they have great French Onion Soup there. I would go back and pay cash for just the soup. It is the best i have had in WDW. Of course, Steakhouse 55's in DL is better, but that's a different board.

We had dinner at Boatwright's back in 2000 and again in 2008, not really impressed. Last November we had an ADR for La Hacienda but were too tired to go back to Epcot that night after our afternoon pool break at POFQ and got a last minute ressie at Boatwright's. IMPRESSED! The service was wonderful, the food was yummy, the pecan pie...perfection! I had the medallions of beef (I think that's what it's called) with "mac and cheese" which was way better than the standard version; DH had the prime rib and loved it; DGD, who is extremely picky, ate every bite that she could of the pork chop; DD had the same as I had. The portions were so large that we weren't able to eat dessert so our server boxed them up for us and we enjoyed the pie the next day. So pleasant to stroll back to POFQ along the river after dinner, too. They also have fabulous martinis. We'll definitely be dining there again.

It is a bad option, even if you are staying there....

There are so many better places at DTD; I would go down there and try out Paradisio 37; Raglan Road; or Fulton's.

I still wouldn't say it's a "bad" option. But I will say that if we stay at POR again (which is likely unless we can get an RCI trade for a DVC resort), we'd be more likely to boat down to DTD for Wolfgang Puck Cafe instead of doing Boatwright's.

Of course, there's the time issue as well... the round-trip boat ride is going to tack on an hour, and with three youngish kids...
