thoughts on animation academy at DHS??

I am thinking of taking my youngest to lunch at hollywood and vine and letting my DH take my oldest two kids to animation academy to sketch….they both love drawing but not sure if its worth it or not?? anyone done it and had any thoughts???

I think it's worth it! It's a lot of fun even if you aren't good at drawing you can usually end up with a decent looking picture. Me and my boyfriend do this attraction over and over and there's all kinds of different ages in there drawing, everyone always seems to enjoy it!

We accidentally ended up in there on our first trip. I am not able to draw much more than a stick person (and even that is bad). The animator gave slow instructions and took time so we all came out with good to great drawings of Carl from UP.

Great memory, a free souvenir and well worth the amount of time we were waiting and inside the class.

Btw, when I said accidentally, we thought it was a movie to watch.

It's one of my family's favorite things to do at DHS and DCA, and we have been doing it with our daughter since she was 7 (and even then, she could draw better than me).

It's a lot of fun and upon exiting the studio, if the line for the next class is short, we'll get back in it and do it for a second (or third) time in a row.

We have not done it at WDW, but we have done it at DL and it is great! We had a lot more fun than we thought we would. We drew Olaf. Mine was terrible, but DD's (8 and not a very good artist) turned out great. She was very proud of herself! For kids who love to draw and are good at it, they will learn some new techniques that they can use in drawing other things too.

We've always wanted to do it, and tried on our trip a couple of weeks ago, but the wait was more than an hour! The CM stationed there said that they're really "increased on popularity." I'm not sure if it's because the Baymax M&G is right there, because they've started doing drawings from Frozen, or a combination of both. It was really disappointing, though.

Haven't done it in WDW yet but my family did do the DL version last summer. I love drawing so I did it while my DB18 was riding ToT but then he expressed interest in it so I did it again with him and our parents. He enjoyed it so much it was one of the few things we did a repeat off on our last day.

I don't know about that!!! My oldest is a roller coaster junkie and can't wait to do everest know that she is tall enough!!! She wants to do RNR but I am not sure!!!

Well, if that is the case, then you had better do the Animation Academy now, because the window won't open any wider as she gets older!

We stumbled upon this in 2008 and boy am I glad we did, we love visiting now! We've only been twice and got to draw Grumpy & the main Mouse himself! We're not brilliant at drawing at all, but it was super fun and our drawings weren't half bad either.

I shall certainly be having another go in May for sure!

Our three year old daughter did it last week and loved it even though it was scribbles. We drew Scrooge. So fun! I even won the animator's drawing!

You said they like to draw, so I think they would be a great age for it. DD's best friend is a talented little artist and I think she would have adored it at age 5. We didn't take DD until age 8, because she is far from a talented drawing artist, but I think we could have done it the year before and been fine.

If they like to draw, they'll enjoy it. There are no erasers on the pencil though keep that in mind.
When I did it last time, there was an upset child (pretty young maybe 5 or 6) because they couldn't erase a mistake in their drawing.

It is more crowded nowadays than when I first started doing it years ago. I used to be able to walk right up but now that more people know about it, I often have to wait for a class or even 2 before I can get in.
Just a heads up for you to know....

We did it and it was a favorite memory. However both my daughter and I were embarrassed by our creations. My husband's turned out good though.

Warning- the instructor goes quickly and kids will have a hard time keeping up. When I was there in Aug there was a 9-10 year old girl next to me who started out happy and once things got moving she fell behind and got soooo frustrated she spent the rest of the time crying loudly. Her mom ignored her and kept drawing. Definitely not fun for her, and also not much fun for those around her. I have a six year old and I would not bring her for several more years (she likes to draw but is a perfectionist and would not be able to rush).

we went when my kids were 7 and 11. The 7 year old was frustrated and cried.

We went when my kids were 6, 9, and 10. The whole family loved it. Highly recommend it!

I enjoyed it so much I did it twice in one day. Drew Dopey and Winnie the Pooh. Totally would do it again
