Thoughts on AA striking

I'm a teensy bit worried after watching the news this morning that American Airlines may strike. We have our flight on 4/13 booked through them (the day before our cruise). The first leg is on American Eagle BDL to ORD. Then ORD to MCO on American Airlines. What happens if they strike? Should I be doing something now in case it happens or just ride it out?

You don't have a whole lot of options now. Unless you bought refundable fares, canceling now will get you credits to fly on AA for what you paid less $150 per ticket. If you wait until you are supposed to fly and there is a strike, they may waive change fees or allow you to rebook on another airline without penalty. If you have travel insurance you could collect something if there is a strike depending on the coverage you have.

FWIW, the American Eagle flight may not be affected as that is booked on a regional contractor.

Well, if American Eagle was not affected that wouldn't be a bad thing. There are a lot more options from ORD to MCO than BDL. The change fee thing wouldn't work since our flights were $99 each. Guess we have no options but to watch and wait.

It would be unfortunate if readers of this thread are alarmed "that American Airlines may strike," based on the OP.

I have not read any news that would lead me to believe there's a possibility an American Airlines strike in the next couple of months. I'm flying American in April, and I'm not worried.

American Airlines is cutting costs through Chapter 11 restructuring, just as the other legacy airlines have done in recent years (without strikes). The unions representing American Airlines employees want binding arbitration, not a strike.

I'll be the first to admit I know almost nothing about this. I am only going on a news story this morning titled "Possible Strike for American Airlines". I know that the news can sensationalize things. That's why I came here to ask people who know more than I do. I am certainly not trying to worry anyone, just get the lowdown.

Where did you see this news? I google search reveals nothing.

There's not going to be a strike, period. You have absolutely nothing to worry about.

Striking a company in bankruptcy is the same as giving up your job. Crazy.
