Thoughts on 2 rooms at POFQ vs WL

My DH and I stayed at WL for part of our honeymoon. We really liked it there. But when I talked to DH last night about our upcoming trip the only thing he would commit to was that he wants a bed for everyone

So ...

Can you get an adjoining room at POFQ? Do any of them have trundles or is that only at POR?

What do I get (and give up) by getting a deluxe at WL vs. two rooms? Will the bunkbeds be more kid friendly?

And will I be able to get enough bedrails??? I think I'd need one for each side of two beds

Other resort differences, especially in kid friendliness??

I figure that the cost difference between 2 rooms at POFQ and 2 rooms at WL in value season will be $966 for 6 nights -- which is quite a lot ....

Trundles are only at POR. You can get adjoining rooms or connecting rooms ~~ I believe they are called connecting rooms, but just say you want the rooms to have a connecting door to each other inside. Otherwise you might end up with rooms next to each other but you go outside to get into them.

I believe you will gain space by having two rooms at POFQ rather than one at WL. You will have 4 full size beds. You will have 2 bathrooms.

By going with a mod you will be giving up inside corridors, queen size beds, a balcony, room service, valet parking, and boat transportation. Also giving up inside restaurants.

They do have deluxe rooms at WL and AKL ~~ which have the added daybed in them. I haven't stayed in them though.

Both resorts are kid friendly!

First off, what is your party size? How many beds do you need? You might want to consider a Villa at WL. They have one and two bedroom villas, but this may be in your budget compared to two rooms. One bedroom will fit four with a queen bed and pull out couch. You can book five people and just bring a blow up bed if you like. But if your DH wants beds for everyone you may want to just price out the 2 bedroom villa. You can rent from a DVC member or book directly with Disney.


POFQ is lovely and we had adjoining rooms so they were next to each other but not connecting. But I am sure they have that.

When I went to WL in November we asked for connecting with my sister because two of her children were supposed to stay in the room with me and my mom. In reality they all wanted to stay with Mom and Dad. Well we got connecting rooms. My sister's room was a queen with Bunk beds, and my room was two queens. It worked out beautifully because her kids were really excited about the bunk beds and shared the beds with their sisters. I was surprised they had connecting rooms with different setups!

It will be the 5 of us. Likely it will be 2/2009, much as I'd like it to be earlier (possibly late summer 2008 FD?). Then the children will be 9.5, almost 7 and 3.5 in 2/2009 DH wants *everyone* to have their own bed, so 2 queens and a pull out, which you would think would work, will not.

I think 2 bedroom VWL would give us this many beds, but I think the rate is going to be well over 2 times $215, which would give us two standard rooms, and I think I read that it will be plus $20 or something like that for bunks to give us 5 total beds, 2 rooms, 2 baths, 2 tvs ... and a lodge location. Since we are "only" going for a week, I think that laundry is not such a big deal and I think we will probably do the DDP (free or otherwise) so the kitchen isn't a big draw either.

And if we could get 2 rooms at POR/POFQ that have a trundle, then we'd also have the 5 beds, 2 baths, 2 tvs -- all for $290/night plus the tax -- it doesn't sound too bad when you compare it to the deluxes. But having gone deluxe for our first trip and being rather *old* and not vacationing much well, maybe I should just tell DH that we *must* get two deluxe rooms for $450/night

But the difference will pay for DDP (and then some?) so I want to think carefully. If I'm smart about it and the kids *enjoy* themselves then I might be able to persuade DH to do it again before they are all grown up!

Have you looked at the cabins in FW? You get a bunkbed and double in the bedroom and a Murphy bed in the living room. Also a full kitchen and an outside deck with a grill. We had two TV's and a DVD/VCR combo. Lots of room and not too badly priced

My friend opted to get two rooms at POR vs. one at AKL. It saved her a ton of money and gave her more space. She had two adults and four kids in her group. Having the additional bathroom was great for her family.

For me, that's what I would do!

You won't get 5 beds in 2 rooms at POFQ. You would have to book POR and the trundles aren't guaranteed there unless you are a family of 5 in one room.

Are you sure? It doesn't make a lot of sense that I can't book an *extra* room for my family to spread out in and still be guaranteed a trundle.

I guess I could have an air mattress delivered , but sheesh why should I have to?

Any ideas if I can confirm this one way or another, before reserving, so I can be the obsessive planner I was born to be??

I don't really need a kitchen if I am going to do the DDP in 7 days/6 nights. Plus, you only get 4 seperate beds. And DH wants one for each person. He hates to end up sleeping with a kid -- doesn't sleep=bad vacation. And he figures if *we* share a bed, that the kids will pile in.

Plus, the cabins are pretty out of the way, and I will still have a pretty little kid (late 2 to late 3) for the additional, what, $30/night you get to be in the thick of things.

May I suggest the Family Suites at ASMu. They have a pull out couch, pull out chair, and pull out ottoman (i.e.; three extra beds for the kids) as well as the queen sized bed in the other room. Two bathrooms and a kitchenette (i.e.: microwave and refrigerator). To me this is the BEST setup for a family of 5.

Fort Wilderness cabins have a full bed and bunks in the bedroom and a Murphy bed in the livingroom. Assuming you and DH sleep together -that is a bed for everyone!

what about a pack n play for your youngest, I know my son will still sleep in one and he is almost three, and then you could do bunk beds at WL

You can't get five beds with two rooms at POR and POFQ. You may request a Trundle bed at POR but like a previous poster said it would just be a request. Also, sounds like you or DH will be on the trundle since the kids won't put up with you being in a double bed. If they won't let you sleep in a double bed in the suites, they probably won't like the trundle either. It is small and on the floor. So looks like the trundle idea is out.

At Wilderness lodge we did have connecting rooms that had two queens in one room and a queen and Bunk Beds in the other. Again you can request , but not sure how many of those setups they have. I believe we were room 5144 and 5142. We booked and paid for two standard rooms and just got lucky. I suppose you could book two bunk bed rooms and ask for them to be connecting or adjoining. Doesn't sound like you and hubby need to be in the same room since you won't be sharing a bed That way you will definitely get six beds!

You could book two rooms at Carribean beach and request a rollaway for one room. The rooms at Carribean beach are bigger and a rollaway fit fine in there. I think it is $15 more a night. You might actually have the kids be fine with one of them sleeping with the other or them "letting" you sleep in your own bed with DH Then you wouldn't need a rollaway. You might be surprised at how excited and cooperative and DEAD tired the kids will be.

Oh and I would save the money and try to go before the youngest turns three. That will save you about 300.00 (as ticket/dining rates are now) and you could put that towards an upgrade to WL with two bunk bed rooms, which sounds like where you want to be.
