Just got back a few days ago from our first trip as DVC members. We stayed at a preferred studio "plus" at BWV- room 3059. It had a great view of the "village green" and boardwalk, as well as a very large balcony. We got exactly what we asked for at the time I made the reservation. I didn't fax or call to confirm my requests ahead of time.
The room was very pretty, perfectly clean, and well-situated near the elevators. We all loved the pools. Being on the Boardwalk was quite convenient and it was great that the babysitter (who was wonderful) could take our DD out there for entertainment the night my wife and I had our "grown-up" dinner.
I was disappointed in some things, though. In general, the atmosphere of the BWV can't compare (IMHO) to the WL, which is where we stayed before joining DVC. The lobby was nice and everything, but it seemed like pretty much any hotel. Not much in the way of "Disney Magic." The WL is almost an attraction in its own right- BW is simply a hotel.
I definitely plan to stay in a 1BR in the future. The studio was pretty much like any hotel room. That's fine- it's what I expected. But it felt, in some ways, a bit cheap. The fact that we only got 5 paper plates was the first thing we noticed. No bottle opener was another. The furniture on the lovely balcony was straight out of K-Mart. Cheap plastic. Storage space was minimal- only two small drawers tucked under the TV. We ended up piling our clothes on the shelf in the closet. There were only about 5 or 6 hangers in the closet, although a call to the front desk quickly produced plenty more.
So, although it was a decent enough room, it was nothing impressive. The hotel rooms we had previously at WL, and the model studio we saw from WLV, seemed much nicer. Next time, it will be a 1BR or 2BR. I'm sure it will be much more satisfying.
Service, BTW, was great. Anything we asked for was cheerfully and promptly produced. When my DD got sick in the middle of the night, the manager opened up Dundy's for us so I could get a thermometer. The staff were all great, especially to my daughter, who is 3 1/2. It's so nice to be someplace where almost everyone is friendly and smiling.
