Thoughts from my first trip to BWV

Just got back a few days ago from our first trip as DVC members. We stayed at a preferred studio "plus" at BWV- room 3059. It had a great view of the "village green" and boardwalk, as well as a very large balcony. We got exactly what we asked for at the time I made the reservation. I didn't fax or call to confirm my requests ahead of time.

The room was very pretty, perfectly clean, and well-situated near the elevators. We all loved the pools. Being on the Boardwalk was quite convenient and it was great that the babysitter (who was wonderful) could take our DD out there for entertainment the night my wife and I had our "grown-up" dinner.

I was disappointed in some things, though. In general, the atmosphere of the BWV can't compare (IMHO) to the WL, which is where we stayed before joining DVC. The lobby was nice and everything, but it seemed like pretty much any hotel. Not much in the way of "Disney Magic." The WL is almost an attraction in its own right- BW is simply a hotel.

I definitely plan to stay in a 1BR in the future. The studio was pretty much like any hotel room. That's fine- it's what I expected. But it felt, in some ways, a bit cheap. The fact that we only got 5 paper plates was the first thing we noticed. No bottle opener was another. The furniture on the lovely balcony was straight out of K-Mart. Cheap plastic. Storage space was minimal- only two small drawers tucked under the TV. We ended up piling our clothes on the shelf in the closet. There were only about 5 or 6 hangers in the closet, although a call to the front desk quickly produced plenty more.

So, although it was a decent enough room, it was nothing impressive. The hotel rooms we had previously at WL, and the model studio we saw from WLV, seemed much nicer. Next time, it will be a 1BR or 2BR. I'm sure it will be much more satisfying.

Service, BTW, was great. Anything we asked for was cheerfully and promptly produced. When my DD got sick in the middle of the night, the manager opened up Dundy's for us so I could get a thermometer. The staff were all great, especially to my daughter, who is 3 1/2. It's so nice to be someplace where almost everyone is friendly and smiling.

hi: just a word of warning, once you stay in a 1br or larger, you'll never go back to a studio! last may, i put my 2 brothers and their families in studios and my family stayed in a 1br. needless to say, all the parties were in my room. now they don't want to stay in studios anymore either. as far as the paper plates go, they just picked up more at the general store downstairs.

I love the whirlpool tub in a 1-bedroom - however when you want save on points you stay at a studio.

Understand your comments completely on being hooked on a 1 bedroom or larger. We have yet to try a studio! Can't give up all that wonderful space!

FYI..BW is not unique in their lobby not having a lot of theming in their lobby. OKW lobby doesn't bowl one over either. It is very charming and pleasant, and a nice place to conduct your business, or sit for a spell, but it is nothing like the WL or GF. I also think a studio at OKW, BWV, or WLV will be on the same par as any deluxe hotel..with the added benefit of the mini-kitchen.

Glad you enjoyed your vacation!

Have a wonderful day!

Synonamous,
I am so glad that you had a great time! As others have stated once you try a 1 bedroom you will never go back, so beware! I completely agree with you on your assessment of the theming at WLV. It is in my opinion a better choice for a disney feeling. My personal favorite too!

While it may seem like a regular lobby the theming at BWV is pretty amazing and very detailed if you stop, sit in one of the big chairs and look around. They have all kinds of representations of Atlantic City and the Jersey Shore. The furniture is exactly like you would have found in the grand hotels of Atlantic City's heyday. The fabulous chandelier as you enter even contains a time capsule. The elephant over the fireplace is the famous Lucy from the AC area (Ventnor, Margate?) I'm actually pretty amazed every time I look around (and the BWV lobby at Christmas is hard to beat).

OKW is also perfectly themed...it's just that the theme is Key West Florida so it doesn't get the "respect" it really deserves. ;)

Pam, I agree with your comments, however the point I was trying to make is the lobbies at BWV and OKW are on a much smaller scale than those at WL or GF. Everyone sits up and takes notice when walking into WL or GF...their scale is so much larger than BWV or OKW. It is delightful to sit in the lobby of the GF, have a drink and listen to a string quartet.

I agree, BWV has wonderful christmas decorations.

Have a wonderful day!

I don't mean to run down the lobby at BW- it was very nicely done. But it wasn't different from what I would expect to find at any expensive hotel.

Help! I am a 1BR junkie! Once you have had it, you can never go back to a studio!!

Ditto on the 1BR addiction. That is why I will buying more points. I love the privacy that a one bedroom offers. Not to mention, the full size kitchen with real dishes, the jacuzzi tub, the washer/dryerPlus.......

Matthew (age 5) loves having his own TV in the livingroom.
