thank you very much for that answer. that folks is what the thread was supposed to be about. PLEASE go up here and carefully read my original post........then look at some of the responses........... i am now going to say something that has stuck in my craw for years. you can do what you will with the info. anything that is ever said against, or percieved as against the site is met with vigorous opposition. and as much as it becomes a feeding frenzy on the person who dares to scribe the offending tome, it also becomes a lesson in the art of brown noseing. now i am going to predict something...........some else a few posts ago said basicly the same thing and it passed with a mere murmur.........but because you feel you already got me on the run............well...........it wont be pretty. now go read the original post once more, it was well worded, properly disclaimed, non confrontational, non judgemental.....in fact i went out of my way to cover all of those areas. as soon as someone representing the Dis came out against me....all bets were off.......i was dead meat...and i know that if he came out with a softer approach saying i understand what you are getting at and we hope others will feel differently and continue to donate but we respect your opinion. that is not what happened it was, upon reading it again, quite vicious. to end this i am going to say something unexpected i have grown to like everyone here and look forward to have someplace to go everyday to see whats up......and.....i am not brown nosing here......i have come to like Kevin Klose very much. we just seem to find ourselves on different ends of the playground sometimes. i may have to quit posting, i will find it very difficult to banter with folks who seem to not want to converse with me......but.......that is my problem.

You really are a needy guy Dalton. It has nothing to do with defending the DIS when people call you out on a controversial post. The content of your post is abrasive and unnecessarily rude and was designed to get the exact reaction you received. Not just this thread either. Most of your posts lately are very snarky. You're not a pleasant guy to converse with. This particular thread isn't full of a bunch of anonymous posters exchanging banter. Most on the DIS unplugged thread know each other personally. When you're rude to a friend, the backlash is severe. New posters are welcome here with open arms. If those same new posters start to be crabby and miserable with everyone then they most likely will receive the same type of attitude in return. Lighten up a little and this type of garbage will go away.

Dalton....I like you too and I love that you have a different perspective and being on opposite sides of the playground is okay, as long as we understand that we can still call things as we see them.

The fact that you chose the title "I've thought long and hard about this before I put it up" tells me that you already knew what the outcome was going to be.

If you thought this was a bad idea....why didnt you approach me or one of the other podcasters and discuss it? Instead, you've chosen to throw the screen door wide and start a discussion, of which you predicted the outcome.

If people dont want to hold a discussion with you....you might want to look to this as the reason.

As for describing people as "brown nosing"....well...another life lesson here....people dont want to talk to people who call them names.

As for being "dead meat" and being attacked.....I'm calling that an over-reaction. The pesky problem with having an opinion is that you have to assume everyone else has one too, and if you get to voice yours....they get to voice theirs too.....even if the disagree with you.

You are welcome to your dramatic grand exit...and I, for one, will miss you... but if you are looking for anyone to throw themselves in front of the door to stop you...well....it's probably not going to happen.

I always hope that this will be a friendly place in a sometimes un-friendly world....and I try my best to keep it that way, but if you want to be the guy with the voice of descent.....be prepared for the folks who like that happier, friendlier atmosphere to let you know that you are messing with something they hold dear.

And I know we're all sick of rehashing this but I'd just like to say it's not brown nosing to support their position of asking for donations. I think a lot of people come to the defense of the people who run the boards because we fear that a few (or really a lot more than a few) negative opinions will ruin a good thing for us. It happens time and time again in society. A few complainers or rule sticklers or over analyzers ruin things for the people who are really enjoying the service.

Almost all the free programs on the internet have a "donate" button. They are saying yes, this program is free as a service to people but it is costly and if you enjoy the program (or service or whatever) then please donate out of your appreciation. This is the exact same thing in my opinion.

The decision to donate to DIS Radio is a personal one, just as the decision to become a sponsor of the boards. If you don't want to donate, then don't. But it's completely unnecessary to post about how you're not willing or wanting to donate.

My response to the OP is -

As Pete stated on the podcast, the money being spent on Dis Radio could be used for something else fun for the people who frequent the site and/or podcast listeners. But since so many of us voiced our desire that Dis Radio not be shut down and offered to help with the costs, that offer is being made to us.

So, I read this thread from start to finish and was honestly going to post my thoughts, in detail, regarding some of its contents. However, what is the point? Yet again, this is another thread posted by someone who is seeking a response. That was the entire point of it as were many similar posts on the boards over the past few weeks.

The bottom line for me is that I am honestly tired of the cliche regarding "brown-nosing" and participating in a discussion only after a podcaster has stated his opinion on it. Frankly, I am capable of making my own opinons and comments and do not chime in only to agree with someone for brownie points. Similarly, I do not understand how or why someone has the time to twist people's viewpoints around. Yes, I understand that this is a discussion board, but upon reading dalt's first reply to Kevin stating that he was taking a "pot shot" at his job I was done. I knew it was going downhill from there. I'm looking forward to this thread's demise.

Very interesting book about things being free. I enjoyed it. Ironically, when I downloaded it my Kindle sometime last year, it was free. Now it's $9.99 apparently!
