Dalton,

The victim act is getting old. You knew exactly what was going to happen when you posted what you did. You knew what the reaction would be, and it was exactly the reaction you hoped for - otherwise, you would have posted your comments on one of the donation threads you mention in your OP.

From Wikipedia;

In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room or blog, with the primary intent of provoking other users into an emotional response[1] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.

Shoe...fit...wear. I'm not saying your a bad guy, or that your opinion doesn't have merit - that's why I gave a considered response to your comments. However, when you openly look to inflame on a discussion board, it's called trolling, whether you have 2 posts or 2000. I stand by my comments.

As I said, you knew what you were doing when you entitled the thread "thought long and hard about this before posting" - so really, the victim act is Drama Queen 101 - and I have a PhD in it, so don't pull that foolishness here.

Pete
I agree with dalt trying to play victim i know couple people in RL who try to pull that victim crap.

This cake looks like a donut, just sayin'......

Whatever Jen! it looks like cake to me! ;)

I am all for free speech and everything but is there a way to prevent Dalt01 from posting anymore because he either just want to start something or just likes to hear himself talk and it is getting really anoying.

Paul, Kate - spot on.

We're watching Eddie Izzard - Marathon Man. He's doing 43 marathons, one per day, taking one day off per week. All for the Sport Relief charity. It's painful to watch! You gotta see this, incredible documentary.

I'm watching the second episode now, I love Eddie Izzard, but blooming beck is he a mad man!!

Dalton, I have noticed you have become more verbal in your posts here on the Unplugged board recently. I have also noticed that some of your posts seem a bit off color and stir the pot.

Many of us come to the boards to have a happy place to post about all things Disney, heck here we post about everything from new babies to prayer requests. But in the end, it's a happy place. Please try to keep it that way.

I've got to agree, lately most of your posts have carried a tone to them that if nothing else has made me uncomfortable and put off, they actually have taken some of the joy out of coming here because it seems you have a comment on every thread.

You may be a long time poster to the DIS but you aren't to this particular section of the DIS. We do things a bit different here and when you post negatively as you did in that first post, you can be guaranteed to be called out about it. A healthy debate fine, a negative attack against others here, podcasters or listeners and you better be prepared to take what you tried to give...

let me start with a couple disclaimers.........i am a BIG fan of this site. i consider myself a loyal subject........i have no axe to grind.......i have no agenda............recently people were asked to "donate" money to keep Dis Radio alive, due to some very real cost issues!......now i am assuming that WDWINFO is a for profit company. if it was the american cancer society or red cross or some such thing i would not have batted an eye. let me stop for a second and say that i may very well be the only person on the planet that feels this way and comments like "if you dont like it dont donate" are unneccessary......the only point of reference i have is if someone came into my place of employment and wondered why the "sirius" radio was not playing and we told them we unexpensed ourselves from that but if they want to hear it there is a jar over there on the table you can throw a buck in. i am not judging anyone who wishes to fork over the 19.95 for a free radio station. i am not judging the company for implementing what i would assume was a well thought out plan. i listen to this station rarely and there are others just like it as you are well aware. i will not be throwing a buck in the jar anytime soon.

Dalton-

Here is the way I see it (back to your original post) If someone came into your business and you were playing Sirius, that is a service you provide for the customers who solicit your business. If the people who booked through Dreams got a password to listen to DISradio that would be one thing, it would be a service they provide their customers but considering the boards are free and thousands of people use them (and can access DIS radio) it is not just a benefit to customers who solicit their business.

I REALLY like DISradio and listen at work, especially when it has been a stressful day. I can hear all kinds of music that I do not own. It is free to me. If I owned Sirius and listened at work, I would pay for it. I am happy to donate (as I was to become a Bronze member) but that is my choice. I choose to solicit the radio and therefore choose to pay a nominal fee.

Just my two cents......

Kristin
thank you very much for that answer. that folks is what the thread was supposed to be about. PLEASE go up here and carefully read my original post........then look at some of the responses........... i am now going to say something that has stuck in my craw for years. you can do what you will with the info. anything that is ever said against, or percieved as against the site is met with vigorous opposition. and as much as it becomes a feeding frenzy on the person who dares to scribe the offending tome, it also becomes a lesson in the art of brown noseing. now i am going to predict something...........some else a few posts ago said basicly the same thing and it passed with a mere murmur.........but because you feel you already got me on the run............well...........it wont be pretty. now go read the original post once more, it was well worded, properly disclaimed, non confrontational, non judgemental.....in fact i went out of my way to cover all of those areas. as soon as someone representing the Dis came out against me....all bets were off.......i was dead meat...and i know that if he came out with a softer approach saying i understand what you are getting at and we hope others will feel differently and continue to donate but we respect your opinion. that is not what happened it was, upon reading it again, quite vicious. to end this i am going to say something unexpected i have grown to like everyone here and look forward to have someplace to go everyday to see whats up......and.....i am not brown nosing here......i have come to like Kevin Klose very much. we just seem to find ourselves on different ends of the playground sometimes. i may have to quit posting, i will find it very difficult to banter with folks who seem to not want to converse with me......but.......that is my problem.

But this...... ummmmmm

There's no way I could eat something like that. It looks to good to eat....I mean...What I'm trying to say is....Awww...Heck with it...Never mind!!! :upsidedow

I still don’t get why we constantly get criticized for running a business, or asking for donations to offset the cost of something we provide for free. Again, the reason why shutting down DIS Radio was brought up was because it was too expensive to run. I had no idea the amount of “true fans” that station had, and what a huge part it played in some of their daily lives. You would have thought we were shutting the whole site down with some of the emails we received.

Saying we shouldn’t ask for donations is assuming that we’re making so much money that we should be able to afford this without an issue. It’s not easy to ask for donations. Do you really think that’s something I wanted to post? The easiest thing would have been to flood this site with so many ads that it looks into Virtual 192. It was donations, ads, or shutting the station down - simple as that.

To the OP, you are entitled to your opinion but it might have helped if you would have followed it up with some suggestions if you really know what’s going on. Should I charge a per-month subscription fee for the boards and only provide DIS Radio to those folks? Should I place Google ads in every post to generate extra money? Should I not care about the fans and shut it down for good? Maybe I should have contacted the Sears marketing department and asked for their opinion. :)

The solution was easy. If you like DIS Radio, help keep it running. If not, the rest of the site (including DIS Radio) is still free for you to use 24/7 - and we’ll still be working hard to make sure it’s here for you tomorrow.
