I didn't notice anyone taking a pot shot at the way anyone else earns a living, but that's just me. carry on

we know WHY people donate Sierra.........the question is........should they be asked to? give me a compelling reason for that. look online at things like earthquakes and hurricanes and how donations are asked for. then maybe go to Sears.com and look for something similar. then be prepared to defend your side of the debate..........seriously.....it is good mental exercise:teacher:
No one asked any one to donate it was announced! The dis/dreams/podcast is all free services.

Sears.com Seriously? Sears is a store the dis is free.

Yet it's okay to take potshots at the way the entire Podcast Team makes their living and feeds their families?:rolleyes1
i absolutely did no such thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! as has been stated ad nauseam, this money is soley for the purpose of sustaining the radio station and if not collected the radio station will cease to exist. that should have no bearing on the well being of anyone on the Podcast team. there is nothing personal in anything i have said. sometimes i also find myself scratching my head.

Well, I would imagine that the fees for DISRadio that Pete (who is on the team) and John (who is on the team) is paying are not coming from the money tree is the backyard, but out of the PROFITS of the company, which simply enough to me would have bearing on the team.

Here is my analogy of the situation......

I go to the library 2 or 3 times a week where I get many free services. The library provides free coffee in the lobby. I like the free coffee and usually have a cup. The library is making no money from the coffee, it's just a nice perk that it offers. Then the price of coffee goes way up and the library can longer afford the cost of the coffee on their own. They put out a donation cup to help offset the cost. Some people put money in the cup, some people don't, the money helps the library to continue to offer something that people enjoy and no one protests the cup or complains to the librarians about the presence of the cup.

I have no feelings one way or the other as to what they do with dis radio as I do not listen to it. Have I checked it out in the past? Yes briefly. I am not a big radio listener to begin with but I do agree it is a good site for Disney music. I see nothing wrong with them asking for donations from those that listen and do not want it shut down. However I do see why many are upset with them asking for a set amount. As people said on facebook it probably would have gone over better had they of asked for a donation in whatever amount people can afford versus asking for a set amount. On the donate page they could have suggested an amount but than had a place for those that could not afford that amount to donate what they could afford. Those that donated the 19.95 probably still would have done so. Many on these boards are very generous people.

Dude seriously if i can make a friend suggestion just stop talking in this thread.

Unless you want to defend how much pie is better than cake.

I would like to respectfully disagree with the OP. Enough said.

Great idea guys and thanks for listening to your audience as usual.

Honestly, the whole post above makes no sense to me at all.

Absolutely have NO idea how earthquakes, hurricanes and Sears? :confused3 have anything at all to do with it. These are even stranger analogies than you usually go for.
it makes perfect sense..........if you walk into Sears and there is a box that says Chili earthquake relief fund....will you put money in it?... yup.....now...........if the box said place money here to help maintain (insert a business expense here), because at the end of the day, Dis Radio is just that, a business expense. are you going to put money in? nope.........now if you want to that is fine, i never said any different. things tend to get twisted pretty fast around here. also i know i sometimes reach clear across the room for something (take that sentence for example:)) but it is never, never malicous.

You are entitled to your opinion, but I think the old saying "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all" applies here.

Do you have the urge to tell us why you dont do anything else?

Dalton, sometimes you really make me scratch my head...No one solicited you. No one emailed you. No one contacted you. You found the information on a FREE website...but stuff like this is unnecessary.

Really. I don't share every thought that comes into my head. Be grateful. Be very grateful.

It just seems like this whole thing falls into the category of things that really didn't need to be discussed. You (OP) don't listen to the DisRadio. You feel no need to donate. You really felt the need to share that with everyone? It's like not listening to Public Radio or not watching Public TV and feeling no need to donate during their campaigns. I actually do donate to both of those things, but if I didn't, I wouldn't call them up and tell them, much less announce it to the whole viewing or listning area! I don't call up all the agencies in town that I don't give to and tell them and all their users why. To put it on a par with your 'for profit' comparison, I don't even see a need to call up businesses I don't frequent and tell them why I'm not doing business with them.

However, I think DISRadio is much more like a non-profit than you realize. If the DIS folks were making a profit from it, they wouldn't have considered shutting it down. They have provided it as a service for years, just as they provide the gazillions gigs of space that this site uses as a service. Yes, it does provide advertising for Dreams, but good heavens, it can't possibly balance out. I can't imagine how much bandwidth this site takes. Pete and John must have subscribed to the 'spend money to make money' theory all these years, and I'm da*ned glad they do!

Ok, rant over. I haven't posted in ages. Must have built up.

Thats still totally different

if you look through the first couple pages you will see that many felt a need to announce their donation or intention to donate. i am giving the other side of the coin a look.............as for what i am trying to accomplish........i am attempting to "discuss" my opinion on a "discussion" board.

I could understand saying "I really don't listen to DIS Radio so I am not donating". I just don't see the reason to question whether or not they should ask for donations.

Believe me, I am not afraid to be the voice of descent. Often I am standing all alone while doing it (especially on the Community Board with everyone's easily wounded egos) but the thread doesn't come across as voicing your opinion. I read it more of questioning if the DIS should ask for donations and not as an opinion on whether or not you are donating.

If that isn't the case I apologize, but that is what I thought when reading it.
