Thought I had our resort picked...

So my wife and I are taking our daughter to Disney World for the first time in February. She is going to be 1 1/2 and we were set on POR Royal Rooms. I was researching rates and noticed I can get Wilderness Lodge Courtyard/Pool view room for just about $300 more. I do like the idea of a balcony so wifey and I can sit out there and have a drink at night while the little one is asleep. What do you think? Would you choose WL or stay at POR?

If you are okay with spending an additional $300.00; go for it. WL is my favorite resort, from the lobby to the grounds and the geyser. It is a fun resort to explore or just relaxing on the balcony. I am an early riser, I would get my coffee and either explore the grounds taking pictures before the rest of the resort woke up or sit out on the balcony enjoying the scenery and the coffee. And the balcony is a good place to wind down after a full day at the park/s before calling it a night just to start all over again. And if you are like us a place to relax in the middle of the day before continuing on. And we were also able to watch the fireworks at MK from our room.

Make sure it's the MAIN pool. If it's the quiet pool, not much of a view and construction right now.

Love the WL! We had a courtyard/pool view last time we were there, and it was beautiful. I would definitely go for it. Also, the boat to MK is a convenient feature which little kids seem to enjoy a lot.

Yes. Worth it. You'll love being able to take a boat to Magic Kingdom. Plus the resort is really pretty.

I would take a look at the construction situation and decide if it will impact your stay. Normally, I would definitely agree with staying at the WL. However, if the little one needs naps and there will be a lot of daytime construction noise, it might be better to save WL for a future trip.

We stayed at the YC once during construction. I didn't think that it would bother me very much. IT did! It was so loud that it was painful to be at the resort during the day. We felt homeless everyday until we finally moved to the BC. What a relief when we moved! Never again will I stay in a resort with construction.

I would definitely do it! WL is fantastic and you will so appreciate the location and boat transportation with your little one. Personally, I don't worry too much about construction. I know it bothers many, but as long as the pool is open, I am happy to stay anywhere. Just go into it knowing there will be some construction going on. The majority of the resort will be its beautiful self.

Sounds great to me! I'm not too worried about daytime noise. She actually sleeps with a sound machine on sometimes when we have ppl over so that shouldn't be a problem. Thanks!

Construction impacts more than view and is more complicated than just additional noise. Make sure you are okay with the little things that may matter to you. A few years ago we stayed at the BC while Hurricane Hannah's was under refurb. We were CL, and so close to Epcot, that I really did not think it would matter. It was Thanksgiving through the following week, and crazy busy for the first part of our stay. At first we did not feel the strain the CM's were under, but by the end of the trip, we were as stressed as they were.

Now we booked knowing there was construction but really thought it would not matter. For our family, we now know it does. I am not suggesting you avoid WL, not at all. I am saying to be sure you are okay with the little impacts that occur while a resort is undergoing that kind of work.

Spent many years while our kids were young at POFQ and Riverside. Loved them. Did WL in 2011 and loved it. So close to MK but a super compact resort in comparison. I would do it for $300 for the balcony alone. The rooms were refurbed maybe three years ago at WL too I believe. Do read up on the construction at WL though but we loved it there!

POFQ is our favorite Moderate and one of our all time fav resorts. WE have never stayed at WL but it is on my DH wishlist. I really think he would love it there.

I think your daughter would like the Royal room better so that would be my decision. Also remember you can request a location but may not receive that request. That could put you near the construction.
