We had dinner there last week (first time) and the atmosphere and service was great but thought the food was inedible. I had lasagna and I have to say it was the worst I ever had. I saw two women at the next table and they had lasagna also, and it looked like they had taken 2 bites out of it. I also had the fresh mozarella appetizer which was tasteless and the oil that they put on the table for the bread was just plain olive oil, not flavored with any garlic or herbs like it usually is. We're not incredibly picky, I enjoy Olive Garden, so I was surprised that there food was so horrible. I know others will probably say they like this restaurant but IMO it was BAD. Linda

I assume you'll be happy to hear that Alfredo's is closing at the end of August, then, right? :rotfl: Maybe they're cleaning out the freezer.

Pat

231 days and counting . . . again!

My co worker also had a bad experience at Alfredo's. She was really disappointed with the food.

I'm sorry that you didn't enjoy Alfredo's. It seems to be getting alot of bad reviews lately.

I've never eaten there. I guess I didn't miss much.

Sorry to hear about your experience, some things never change! We haven't eaten there in years and when we did we thought it was pretty lousy. Hopefully something "better" will go in when they go "out".

First off, Olive Garden IS NOT authentic Italian. I hate when people compare it to an Italian resturant, because Olive Garden is American italian.

I ate at Alfredos on Monday and I think it was great! It is what I think more authentic Italian is like. Now I've never been to Italy, so I can't say for sure. LOL!
I had the trio thing and also the appetizer of fetticinne. I loved it all. The lasagna was great. So was the ziti. The third thing I had never heard of, but enjoyed as well. My DD ate my fettucinne for the most part and loved it too. My DH got some kind of boar sausage thingand it was spicy. But he loved it, and even DD ate some of it.(she thought it was a hotdog). I had a mousse for desert and DD shared and we scaped the bowl clean.
I will be sad to see it close. I have also heard that isn't for sure yet, but maybe it is.
But anyways, I loved it and thought it was really good. But if you are going and expecting Olive Garden then you may not like it. It is nothing like that.

jenseib,
First let me say, that I HAVE been to Italy, and I completely agree with you. My DH and I can NOT eat the food at Olive Garden. I know in Florence and in other Tuscany areas, olive oil is served on the table. Olive oil only, and adding salt. Restaurants here always think I'm crazy when I stop them as they're getting ready to add pepper and other "stuff" to the olive oil. I just say "plain olive oil please," and then I add the salt. It's amazing how the salt alone brings out the taste in the olive oil...extra virgin...and must be good. Wow I sound pompous:goodvibes Honestly, I just LOVE my Italian food. I'll be trying Alfredo's in May, because I heard it's more authentic. I'm anxious to see!

As for the OP, I am so sorry your experience was so yucky. I know how disappointed I am when I go to a restaurant and the food isn't up to par. Thanks for the post!

Let me say that I completely agree about the Olive Garden (as Americanized as you can get) but I couldn't disagree more with the review of Alfredo's as authentic Italian!

Alfredo's is terrible! The gravy (or sauce) is bland. The noodles are overcooked and the place is noisy and cramped! (I'm speaking as an Italian American whose family knows how to cook authentic Italian food. I've got several trips to Italy under my belt to show as proof as well :) )

Dangit, I have ressie's there for 4/13. Now I'm torn between trying it before it goes away or changing it for fear of having a horrible meal...

ARrrggghh!! :confused3

Eek. I wonder if I should change my ADR? Just when I thought my ADR's were all set:sad2: Oh well...at least it gives me something to do for the last couple months before the trip:thumbsup2

I am Italian and was brought up in a household with authentic Italian cooking. I agree that Olive Garden, Macaroni Grill, etc. do not serve "authentic" Italian food. Although Alfredo's food is authentic in ingredients, it is horrible. Calamari cooked almost to the point of being burnt, tasteless tomatoes and mozzarella, and MUSHY pasta. I even asked them to cook my pasta al dente and it came out in a sticky glob. It was expensive, which would have been OK if my DD and I had enjoyed our meals, but the food was so bad that we left hungry and had to eat again later in the evening. I would pass.

Okay...you guys have convinced me. Thank you so much to the OP for this thread. I just switched my ADR's from Alfredos to Marrakesh.

Wow! You are the first person (that I've found) who has said "ick" to Marrakesh. :confused3 Does anyone else feel the same way?

My family & I ate at Alfredo's last Sept. and the food and service were not good. The two previous times we ate there we had wonderful experiences so I just think it is hit and miss. Hope the new restaurant is better.:)

we did not have a good experience here. As i've said before tho i think if we'd picked off the main menu it would have been fine, but we had the sampler things and everything seemed fatty and v strange. Pick what you like- best advice i could give ;)

Ate at Alfredos Dec 26 for lunch - Fettucine was dry and bland- side order of meatballs in red sauce was like Chef Boyardee out of a can. Lobster bisque was similar to Campbells tomato soup with small pieces of artificial seafood in it. Those who had the tomato mozzarella salad said it was fine but how bad could it really be? Service was poor to say the least. All in all would never consider going back.

Marrekesh - The sampler appy for 2 - could they put any more cinnamon on a lump of puff pastry? The meat inside was so dry, it hurt to swallow. For my main course I had the shish kebobs that came with a big pile of plain couscous. They were 3 of the most sorry looking "beef" shish kebobs I ever saw. The coucous had no taste and the meat, ick. My kids ate thier meals - chicken tenders, and I don't even remember what my husband ordered, but I know we walked out of there with our wallet over $100 lighter for a nasty meal. Never again.

I would rather sit at Alfredo's eating the caprese salad and the antipasto while sipping the limoncelli margarita's...
