Those with whirlpool tubs....

Okay...stop this foolishness right now!!!! (Unless I can get in on it.;) :teeth: )

So much good input and things I hadn't thought of. Sure wish there was a good showroom here in town to actually look at the different options AND to ask a ton of questions to people who *really know* about the product they're selling.

Our bathroom has a jacuzzi. I think we've used the tub four times since we moved in 3 years ago. I'd say it's an expense you can skip.

We had two in houses we bought and I hated both of them and had them removed.

I love mine, but its a PITA to clean.

Definately try before you buy! I layed down in a bunch of them before settling on the one most comfortable for me.

We have a 2 person one-came with the house. We love it. Ours doesn't take all that long to fill and we have 2 water heaters so we never run out of hot water. I haven't noticed a dramatic increase in our water or gas bill using the tub. It gets used probably once/week, maybe a bit more in the winter.

Our water spout/controls are in the middle of one side of the tub so that is nice-you don't have to worry about konking your head on controls at one end. One thing I would like is a pull out spray feature, like many kitchen faucets are today, for cleaning.

I need to find a rack that goes across the tub that will hold my glass of wine and my book. We have arm rests in our tub but I am short and if I am reading a hardcover book they get heavy.

I've got that! When I told our builder I wanted it, they thought I was crazy. It definitely wasn't standard. Once it was in, our builders wife was walking through the house with us, and she was literally squealing about needing the "get one." Between that and my Mr. Clean Magic Wand and the tub is very easy to clean. :thumbsup2

My "pull out" is seperate from the actual faucet, it's mounted on the tile top next to the controls. It works like a shower in a tub, when you pull a lever it redirects the water from the faucet to the sprayer.

We recently moved into a house with the whirlpool bath. I thought it would be great for sore muscles, but the tub is so deep that it's too painful to get in and out of, it's not worth it. I think I used it twice, probably won't use it again. DW has always preferred baths over showers, but the awkwardness of getting in and out of the tub (even when the jets aren't in use) has caused her to use the shower in the other bathroom more often. Good luck with your choice.:)

Great thread and it came at the perfect time!

My DH and I are trying to make this decision as well and we don't know what to do. In the last house we owned we had a garden tub, no jets and we both used it. Mostly, me but he got in it once in a while. It really got a lot of use whenever I had a cold or some other kind of sickness. It was on a platform in a corner, but wasn't built as a corner tub. It was a standard size and 2 people was a really tight squeeze.

Now, we are looking at building and we found the perfect floorplan and in building costs, the builder includes a standard size garden tub like we had before.

DH and I first considered reconfiguring the bathroom to accomodate a 2 person (air jetted) corner tub (like those at OKW) but then thought that it might use too much water. Also to upgrade to that is an additional 7K.

Then we thought of maybe putting the same standard size that is already shown in the floor plan with jets which is considerably less.

Now we've gone back to thinking that maybe we should just stick with the garden tub like we've had before and leave it at that. We are just so confused. We want to choose something that we would be really happy with because this will be our forever home since it is on river-front family land.

Would we regret just sticking with a garden tub?
