I want to buy a DVD recorder. I don't want to have to buy another one in 6 months (electronics outdate so quickly). My main goal is to copy all my home videos onto DVDs. I would like some editing capability so that I can copy differerent parts of the home videos onto one DVD. I would like to copy other DVDs :D. How important is having a hard drive on the DVD recorder?

I don't own one, but I have some interest in the subject. I think you may want one for your computer. You'll want some kind of editing program to transfer your home video to DVD, and I believe that is going to be more difficult with an outboard DVD deck. However, for capturing shows from tv/cable, the deck would probably be what you'd want.

Deferring to someone who knows more now;)
