I just wanted to check in with the board. We were about 60 miles north of NOLA. We finally got power back last night. We made out really well. We had no damage to our house. My dh shop has two trees fall on it, but it's not completely damaged, just one spot that leaks and we covered it. Our whole parish had been without power. Entergy and other power co. from other states have been doing a fabulous job. They have been working tremendously hard to restore power where they can. I have seen lots of houses with trees in the middle of them. My brothers family will be without power for at least 2 months, their lines will have to be completely rebuilt. They will probably stay with us. Another parish ST. Tammany was hit really hard (Slidell area), beautiful homes flooded. My cousin's family lost their home. My dh's brothers family will be moving in with my in-laws because the live in Jefferson Parish, where they don't know when they will have power. Dsil lost her job in NO. Dbil has been transfered here for the time being.
This experience has taught us some valuable lessons. We all take too much for granted. The small things that we just expect (hot bath, hot meal, air). Last night I finally was able to take a hot bath, it was awesome. My two dd's handled the storm really well. My 2yr old had the worst heat rash I had ever seen. We listen to the radio and hear people complaining about their power, I was just happy to be alive and have my family and home safe. We were very fortunate, because we could have gotten hit harder if the storm would not have made that one turn. We will not stay for another hurricane, except for maybe a cat 1 or 2. We will definately evacuate. It's just not worth it.
Please pray for all those from NO. There tradegy is not and will not be over for some time. I know they need childrens clothes and toys. Anything anyone can donate will be great. I'm going in my attic today and pull out baby clothes that we no longer need and toys and will be sending them to those innocent children who lost so much.
Thank all of you for your prayers. Sorry for going on so long.
