How many of you guys get the trip insurance packages? And if so, which ones did you get?

We have done about 4 DVC vacations, and have not ever purchased the insurance. I can see where there may be advantages to having that, but we've been lucky in that we have not had any events that would have required us to use insurance.

But I was curious as to whether most DVC'ers get it, or not?

And why, or why not?

We haven't, but I would if I were traveling late in my use year.

We've never gotten it. We usually drive down so I'm not worried about an airport closure or flight cancelation. We own AP's so it's not like we could get reimbursed for ticket costs. Just haven't figured out where it's worth it to us.

I just purchased DVC, so I haven't had to use the trip insurance yet, but I think I would likely purchase it for trips during the winter. You never know when a snow or ice storm is going to cancel flights left and right around here.

Haven't needed it in about 15 trips. I was tempted to buy it a few years ago when my grandmother was very ill. As it turned out, she passed away 2 weeks before the trip, so we didn't need it then either.

I'm a bit more reassured that no one else here has purchased it. I was feeling like I was being negligent by not getting it . . . :o

The reimbursement for DVC points is only $5.00 per point. I think you are better off to risk having points in holding or maybe trying to rent them than pay insurance that only reimburses at $5.00 rate. Depending on your airfare penalties and initial cost, you may or may not want to buy insurance if you fly.

I agree with jekjones, I don't think it's worth it. It's actually less than $5 per point when you factor in the premium.

I am still considering purchasing the insurance.
However, it only allows $100 per day if I get stuck in florida, which is my highest risk.

If I get stuck on this end, due to something major, the DVC has a really good repuation for restoring points. The Airline has a good reputation for allowing cancelations (and I would use the air fare at a later time, so I would not mind it going toward future reservations).

What could really cost me, is getting stuck in Florida, or even at the lay-over airport (Phoenix).
