This TERRIFIES me! Do they blink?!

Seriously - this really scares me! PLEASE tell me they DON'T BLINK at Disney World! I know I asked this a few months back, but now I am freaked because this was on an advertisement!! :scared1:

Your not serious are you? This is a joke right?

I still don't entirely understand what the "uncanny valley" thing. I can see how the blinking sends it into the valley, but i guess i don't understand the concept fully. :(

When you look at a still picture with their eyes like that it's kinda creepy, but then again it's kinda creepy when you see a picture of a human smiling but have their eyes closed. Seeing a character blink for a moment doesn't seem like it would be as terrifying as you are imagining.

Hold on tight then... it'll be here before you know it... specifically Mickey at Town Square. He has already appeared on three seperate occasions, as recent as YESTERDAY (April 9th).

Is it possible it could be used as part of a 'limited time magic' promotion at all in the future?

The Uncanny Valley is the section of the graph that plots how uneasy people feel about human robotics and/or zombies - the creepiness factor at its greatest. I see that prosthetics are within the valley and I totally agree with that though it makes me feel badly that I do!

Some folks need to lighten up. Yeah, I think it's creepy and it makes me shriek. I also think it's funny it creeps me out. :rotfl:
If you want to compare it to the horrors I've seen in my life, it's apples and oranges.

awesome thanks for explaining! :thumbsup2

Really??? A character with a movable eyelid terrifies someone. Man I sure hope nothing really terrifying ever happens. I think they are cool and brought just one more degree of believability to Disney Characters.

I think the problem is that they DIDN'T add "just one more degree of believablity", they took it away with sloppy mechanics. I think the problem is that the eyelash doesn't move with the eyelid. If it did, that would give visual clues of the blink. But when they eyelash is just under the brow, that indicates that the eye is open, but it is blank. This makes it look like the eye is missing or gouged out or something.

I don't think it's something people understand -- it took me a while to figure out. But we are hardwired to look for faces, as that it is a very important survival need for infants to recognize their caretakers faces and bond with them by smiling, etc, so the caretakers will keep taking care of them. This is an ancient reflex, which also explains why we so often clearly see faces random patterns in clouds or burned toast or dunes on Mars. When there is something not as expected in the face, it causes a gut reaction of fear and horror. That's the Uncanny Valley effect -- close enough to human to provoke ancient reflexes, but not human enough to seem right, so it causes discomfort.

Last year when we were at the tuskar house, the Mickey blinked and his nose wiggled! He kept putting up close to my 8 month old and it was wiggling back and forth- I think it was pretty cool. Lol

1. Its kind of like those creepy dolls that there eyes roll back into head when you lay them down.

2. Its your reptilian brain telling you something is wrong with this person and I must either run away from it or kill it, aka fight or flight. Of course you really can't do either one so you are trapped.

I'm guessing you're not a fan of TPE The Movie? :)

I've never been in the right "mood" to try to watch it.
I'm a big fan of Tom Hanks and Robert Zemeckis, but
the clips are so eerie/creepy/zombie-like that I don't want to spend much time with it.

:lmao: We saw this Minnie and Mickey on Wheel of Fortune. Every time they would blink, the kids and I would scream in horror! :scared1:

THAT'S where I saw them!!!
I couldn't figure out what the heck was "off" with them until we realized they were blinking.
Kind of scary looking in my opinion.

In the meantime, to get a little prospective try thinking about terrorist, cancer, hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, plane crashes, droughts, floods, drive by shootings and so on. Kinda makes Mickey Mouse blinking an eye seem pretty docile and insignificant doesn't it?

Really? I mean really?

I used to feel this way, but I gave it a chance and managed to climb up out of the valley a couple of years ago. It's not a bad little movie.

The scene where Santa comes out and he is trying to see him is among my favorite Holiday Movie favorites of all time.
