I have been planning a suprise 10 year anniversary Vow Renewal. My wife is not aware of it. It is the one thing we really wish we could have done for our wedding but couldn't. When I call the reservations number to get a nice intimate day with just the two of us it is not an option. I was hoping to have an officiant, a photographer, some flowers, a limo and dinner but what I was told is "your party is just not big enough for us". It seems that if you don't have a party of at least 8-10 you are, as a reservationist said to me, not up to the "Disney Standard". When I called back to speak to a manager I was told there was no point, they would not do anything for me either. Doesn't anyone ever elope to Disneyworld???

That is crazy! I've seen intimate weddings with just the couple. What does it matter how many people are there if you are paying? I would definitely call back to speak to someone else.

I would definatly call back and talk to someone else. You can do it with just the two of you. Happens all the time. Good luck in you planning. What a sweet thing you are doing.

Aww, that's so sad! I hope my DH does that for me on our 10th (still 8 years away.) I keep watching the Food Network Disney Weddings over and over again.

If you get the same response when you call back, write a letter. That might work better. Also, when you call, ask why your party is too small. Ask if they charge per attendant or if there is a set fee. It could be they charge (wild guess) 100 a person, and with just the two of you, its not cost effective. Depending on your budget, if that's the case you could pay for "ghost" people to attend. Or you could just invite close friends or family. Or me! I'll be glad to come!:bounce:

i would call back too! there's no excuse for them to say that! i've seen plenty of couples who married or did a vow renewal with just the 2 of them!

dh and i "eloped", but we didn't do the whole disney wedding shebang. we found a small chapel in kissimmee and married there. we spent our honeymoon at WDW!

I'm not doubting your word on this but I just cannot believe that you were told this information.

Which department did you speak to? You spoke to Disney Fairytale Weddings right ? You do have to enter into a package with them on the Intimate or what you can do is already have a holiday booked and then ask for an intimate wedding add-on.

I know PLENTY of people who have and are planning weddings and VR's with just the 2 of them so this is not policy at all.

Just in case you got through to the wrong department the official number for Disney's Fairy Tale Weddings is 407-828-3400 tell them you want an Intimate Vow Renewal.

Please let us know how you got on - this concerns me greatly.

Sam, I wish I were wrong but DFW&H told me on three different calls they cannot and will not help. The first time I called it was actually with a supervisor. I tried again and again thinking they were nuts. But they continue to say it will not happen with them. I know I keep reading about all these "intimate" events. So I asked them what it is I here about and each time they have told me "it isn't through us". This is by far the rudest group of people at any reservation line I have ever called too. They can't wait to tell me I'm wrong and finish the call. It's caused me to rethink my total loyalty to all things Disney.:scratchin

Not doubting you either, but did you tell them it was for a weekday and not a weekend? I know intimate weddings cannot be booked for a weekend.
This is just all too odd.....and sad :(

i took this from the www.disneywedding.com site...

Invite your guests to share your joy. Your celebration can include up to eight guests in addition to the bride and groom. Call a Disney Intimate Wedding consultant for details, at (321) 939-4610, or your Travel Agent.

have you tried that number???????

Did you call the number I posted - this is the correct number - infact I took the liberty of calling them myself after I read your post and was told that they could do any Intimate you wanted as long as it was from 2-8 people standard with another 5 added for $500 extra, they didn't state weekday or weekend. So I'm really confused at what you state.

i figured you'd call to straighten it all out! :)

cobra: i agree with everyone else. you can totally do just two people. i've seen it with my own two eyes. maybe they just have acase of the Mondays (bonus point for anyone that knows what movie that's from).

angey77: you had me in a panic for a minute. intimate weddings are held 7 days a week. i just double checked by calling ftw, and they said it wasn't a problem.

thanks everyone. sam i'm going to try that specific number and if it works, i really owe you a debt of gratitude. the number i tried was on the website so i figured it was the best one. we'll see.

It doesn't make any difference to FTW whether you have 2 or 8 people with the intimate package as they charge the same. i wonder what happened and how you got that info? i have never heard of this happening before!

Don't know if this will help or not, but we did our wedding as a Custom Wedding. We were told the actual number of guests did not matter, it only mattered that you met the minimum expense requirement for the events and locations. In our case that was a per person fee for the meal, but there was a minimum headcount number for our Illuminations party. It was okay to proceed, but we had to pay for the minimum number of heads, although there were fewer than that many people there. We've actually done that since through Group Dining and booked an Illuminations party for our 5th Anniversary, we had 12 people there, but had to pay for the 20 people minimum. It was still not too bad a cost for as much fun as we all had. We had no trouble meeting the minimums required, and had a wonderful time doing our event where and how we wanted to do it.

ahutton: by minimums, do you mean pay for the total package and not get much of any of it? i don't need accomadations, passes, dinner for 8-10 only two or the pavilion. i am only looking for a very stripped down event.

When she is talking about minimums, she is talking about a custom wedding, or a special even over at epcot. The intimate weddings don't have mins, they are a set price. Either the package that includes the room, or the add-on package which goes onto the disney room reservation you already have.

I saw on another thread that you got everything worked out - I'm very happy that you will be able to surprise your wife like this and that we could all help you.

I'm sorry Disney messed with you in the first place but was pleased to see once you got through to the right people it didn't put you off Disney full-stop.

I hope after the event that you will share with us your day.

Very romantic and congratulations on your forthcoming VR.
