We have been battling ants for weeks now. We have been doing everything we can to get rid of them and they won't leave. We are so disgusted over the amount of food that we have had to throw out.

So, this morning I open the Jif and about thirty ants are scattering around the jar. Yuck! Those little buggers have gone too far now. They messed with the peanut butter. They can take away our cereal, and they can take away our sugar. However, it stops at the JIF! This is war! Look out because there's a redhead on the warpath. It isn't going to be pretty. There's going to be carnage everywhere! Nobody messes with the Jif in our house and gets away with it. :teeth:

If you really want to get rid of your ants, buy Terro syrup. It's sold in hardware stores and some supermarkets. You place a couple drops on a a small square of cardboard and place whereever you see ants (careful for kids and pets) Initially, there will be MORE ants, but don't kill them. They will eat the syrup (boric acid and sugar) bring it back to feed the rest of the nest, and in about a week, they just disappear from your lives. I've used it on small sugar ants and big blackugly things and this product has never failed me.

Don't bother with the little ant motel type things- they just don't work.

Combat ant killing gel works great too. Its the same idea as above, its a gel bait that attracts the ants and then kills them. Professional exterminators came to our house 3 times and couldn't get rid of the ants, but the Combat worked. Good luck, I hate ants!

I made my own and it works. The exterminator would spray but after about a week they came back. Mostly mine were at my kitchen sink and never got into my pantry. I called yesterday and "fired' my exterminator.

Try this out

For heavy infestations, mix 1 tbsp. of sugar, and 1 tbsp. of Borax with 2 tbsp. of water to make a thick syrup. Soak cotton balls in mixture and place cotton balls on low lids or something flat so that ants can get to it. Place them in the middle of the ant infestations. Ants will eat it and take it back to the nest. Slowly but surely, the numbers will diminish. Have patience. Keep well out of reach of children and pets.

Wow! Thanks for the tip. I've never heard of this before. We have been trying everything to get rid of them. We bombed the house, sprayed, and put down the motel traps. Nothing has worked. I am going to try this. We don't have any indoor pets. Our son is six, so there won't be a problem there. He hasn't bothered with the ant motels that we set out. He knows they are poison.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! :Pinkbounc

DH bought the Terro syrup last night. He slipped it under the cabinet where their "trail" is. HOLY COW! We didn't see one ant this morning. :cheer2: It was so nice to wake up and not see those little buggers in the cabinets or on the counter. We did see one at lunch time. It was going after the Terro syrup. :thumbsup2

Thank you so much for the tips everyone. :teeth:

Borox and confectioners sugar (equal parts) really does work. It will bring the ants out in droves but then they'll be gone for good. They got into our peanut butter and now I keep it in the frig. Also, once we open a box or bag of something it goes into ziploc bags/containers. We haven't had any serious problems in a few years.

If you notice a few wandering around use vinegar to wipe down the area and erase their trail.

The terro syrup was the only thing that worked for us. I was amazed by that stuff.

ITA! We tried everything on the market before MIL suggested terro. Found it at Home Depot & have been using it for three years straight (they come back every year, the little buggers!) Love terro! Works in just a few hours!

A long time ago, we used to use the Terro Syrup, and it worked very well.

But now, we have two very precious cats, that are like children to me.
I would never forgive myself if they got sick because of it.

Here's the bright side of having ants.

Chances are you don't have termites.

Turns out ants and termites are natural enemies. If you see one, odds are you don't have the other.

Anyone know if Terro Syrup works on ants in the yard?

We don't have any in the house (knock wood), but there are tons of anthills in our yard. We just moved in a few months ago, and I know it can't be good for the grass (or lack thereof). I'd rather not use chemicals because the lawn is in horrible condition, and I already made the mistake of using weedkiller a couple months after reseeding. All my new little grasslings are now dead. :guilty:

We use Epsom Salt and I believe it is Combat ant traps. I have used the Epsom Salts outside too. I am slowly learning to keep an eye out around the front garden for the little buggers to start attacking our house. You would think they would spread the word to each other to leave our house alone due to the chances of survival being very slim!!!
