This Isn't Turkey!?! Part 8 Islands of Adventure and making friend

If you have mised any day please see my Trip Report Index

Tuesday 27th June 2006

Me, Sarah, 30 – only adult planner
DH, Craig, 32 loves holidays, hates planning
DD, Holly, age 9 loves rides and hoping to try Kraken, loves planning
DD, Rowan, age 7 never been on any big rides, fearless (or so she says)

I woke up feeling great despite the busy day yesterday. Think it was mainly due to the fantastic pillow – boy it was comfy.

For breakfast I think we had crisps and chocolate from last night! Only on holiday can you do that. I bought a neat little wallet on a lanyard for keeping our FOTL passes safe and sound which was a bargain at $5.28.

We checked out of our room and put our case into the hotel baggage area. We were at the park for around 10.30am and headed straight to Suess Landing. We went on Caro-Suess-el followed by Cat in the Hat which we all loved.

Next up we watched the girls ride One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish but this was not as much as I thought it would be as the girls flew around high up when the water was spraying.

After this we went to ride The High in the Sky Suess Trolley Train Ride which is brand new. Whilst queuing we happened to see the girls from the Horror Make-Up Show and soon they were chatting like old friends. Holly and Rowan gave them 2 Scottish flags pins and then it was our turn for a ride on the train. This was quite nice and a good way to get a great view of Suess Landing.

Once off the ride and in the gift shop we started chatting to the girls from Texas and their parents. They are Charlie and Karen Ramirez and their girls are Sarah, age 9 and Leslie, age 7. They live in Fort Worth, Texas. Charlie works for the police department and Karen works in a bank. We swapped email addresses as the girls said they would like to keep in touch. Then as kids do they decided they wanted to do a ride together and before you knew it we headed off for a bite to eat at the Stoopendous Café where Charlie gave us vouchers for free kids Meal Deal bands. Great stuff, thanks!

After we had eaten we all headed off to Poseidon’s Fury. We all had FOTL as the Ramirez’ were staying at RPR too. Being the same age the girls had loads in common and we all enjoyed comparing our different lives and countries. Poseidon’s Fury was very good and the ‘water tunnel’ was fab.

Next up was Duelling Dragons. There were only 3 of us going to ride this. Charlie, Craig and I were the three brave souls and Karen took the girls for a look around the Lost Continent.

We joined the queue and the ride was closed due to thunder passing overhead. We waited a short while before the ride was started and we saw a few empty ride vehicles head around the track. The one that stopped to load us on was absolutely soaking from being outside through the storm. I dried the seat with my t shirt and sat down feeling smug! Not for long. As we pulled out of the station and up the lift hill we were showered by all the rain from the row in front!! Not so smug now, LOL.

We were in the back row of Ice and it was an amazing ride. Lots of turns and we had no idea where we were going next. Being at the back you really feel the power of being pulled around the track – excellent fun!

Looking to please all the family we headed to The Flying Unicorn. Holly and Sarah sat together, followed by Charlie and Leslie, Rowan sat beside Karen (dumped by our own daughter!) and Craig and I sat together. There were lots of screams on the way round and not all from the kids – this was faster than I imagined it would be. All good fun though. Charlie bought some popcorn which we all shared.

Working our way anti-clockwise around the park we came to Jurassic Park River Adventure. We waited no time at all to get on this ride. It started off quite pleasant but soon took a scary turn for the kids. Holly was terrified of the dinosaurs but Rowan was fine. The drop at the end was brilliant and not a moment too soon for Holly who thought she was going to end up as a dino-meal!

We bought a ride photo each (2 for $32) and I think the photo is priceless! We are in the bottom two rows (the enlarged section). Top row from left to right – Karen, Sarah, Leslie and Charlie. Bottom row L-R Craig, Holly, Rowan and me!

We had some frozen slush drinks here. They had pina colad, tangerine ans strawberry flavours – mmmmmm.

We all really liked the look of the Pteranadon Flyers but we could not use FOTL here and it was a 60 minute queue! Not fancying waiting that long we walked around to Toon Lagoon but nobody was interested in going on Dudley Do_right’s Ripsaw Falls as it looks like you get drenched. Popeye and Bluto’s Bilge-Rat Barges were not working so it was round to Marvel Super Hero Island.

Spiderman was first on the list here and it was almost straight on for us again. This was fantastic and we would highly recommend it to anyone. The 3D and movement is amazing!

Anyone for Dr Doom? Only 3 for this one. Karen, Craig and I. Charlie sensibly decided to take the girls to Stormforce Acceleration. Knees shaking we made our way to the tower. It looked much higher from the bottom. All strapped in we shot off into the sky and I SCREAMED the whole way up – I was gobsmacked and when we hit the top and got some airtime I was petrified. On the way back down I got over my shock and enjoyed the rest of the ride going up and down a few more times. We were all very pleased to have been on Dr Doom but it was so much scarier than I thought it would be. Would I go on it again – you betcha!

Karen, Craig and I joined Charlie and the girls to watch them ride Stormforce Acceleration again. We got a few photos but they move so fast. We grabbed some snacks for the girls making good use of the Meal Deal wristbands. We also discovered a taste for Churros – yummy!

Craig and I were the only ones brave/mad enough for The Hulk. We waited no time at all and were soon blasted out the launch tunnel reaching 40mph within 2 seconds. Woohoo!

We joined Charlie and Karen who had taken the girls to an arcade which they all loved. Holly and Sarah played air hockey and I think it was USA 7 – UK 6. It was a close game.

We all decide that we would like to see the Eighth Voyage of Sinbad stunt show so it was back to the Lost Continent. We had to wait a while for the show to start and we passed the time by chatting and the girls teaching each other games. We all sat in the splash zone not sure how wet we might get. The show was great fun and featured loads of amazing stunts. Yes we did get wet!

We headed to Burger Digs for bite to eat and we had a great time just hanging out. Unfortunately the Jurassic Park Discovery Center was closed and so we said our farewells and promised to keep in touch. We were sad to se the Ramirez family go and the girls were a bit subdued for a while. They missed their new friends! Aaaaaawwwww, bless.

The clouds were looking menacing as we headed back to Spiderman for another ride. Once again we loved it and we exited to the worst storm I have ever seen!!
Craig bought a Spiderman baseball cap ($18.00) and we looked in a few shops to stay out of the torrential rain. We spent a bit of time, and money, in the arcade before heading over to Suess Landing where we had a last ride on Cat in the Hat before buying the girls Thing 1 and Thing 2 t shirts ($36.00)

We walked back in the rain stopping to buy funnel cake which Craig, Holly and I found scrummy. We spent ages licking all the icing sugar off our rain covered hands.

We walked back to Citywalk and waited for the boat to take us back to RPR. It took ages and we would have been quicker walking but we were too tired. We got back to the hotel and collected our suitcase then it was into the car and a short drive back to the Enclave Suites.

We were all tired but hungry too so we popped into Pizza Hut to place an order and while I got the girls ready for bed, Craig went to pick up the pizza. It was delicious and we went to bed exhausted and with full tummies. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz
