This is us..

The ring had belonged to his grandmother so it's a family heirloom. Strange that he just left it with Kate without making sure she was going to wear it.

Go Kevin! I simultaneously wanted to cheer and cry at the same time.

Toby scored points with me tonight, he's absolutely right. For once he stopped and thought ahead a little bit.

I'm a firm believer in a woman doing for herself but I'm feeling Jack on this one.

My DH always says he's going to take the kids out back and "hose 'em down" when I go out of town.

This episode had so much!!!

I thought that we were going to find out how Jack died. My heart started racing when he asked the question.

I am definitely team Toby tonight. My opinion changes every week.

Ugh, when Kevin sat down and held Randall..so much emotion for no dialogue.

Given the lst scene, my guess is that Jack dies while he's driving drunk. I also believe within the next week or so we'll see both deaths play out.

William saying that he was tired of having a new problem every day pain wise..I hear you William.

Given the ages of the kids, OMG I just had a thought..what if Jack starts drinking while Rebecca is on the road and he drives Kate somewhere while he's drunk and that's how he dies.

When someone fictional dies and it breaks your heart, you know you're watching an amazing show.

I can't wait for the analysis over the next week. I love seeing things from a different perspective.

I agree there was so much! Did you also hear Miguel make the comment you don't have a drink. i think they are going to delve into that more. I don't think he will die while on this tour. Only because in that other episode they seemed more distant. He was working a lot & distracted & she felt he wasn't hearing anything she said. I think a little bit more time passes.
I didn't see the Kevin thing coming. Even when he said what would my Dad do. I didn't until he got there. Dad would help Randall! So powerful! I got teary eyed when Miguel told Kevin he reminds him of Jack & it's like having a piece of his best friend back. They are showing a different side of Miguel!

I was also wondering if Jack dies while Rebecca is on her tour. I like that they showed them in a difficult patch. Their relationship was just too perfect.

I am more and more devastated each week thinking about losing William.

Liked how they showed Randall and the pressure he puts on himself and the anxiety problems he has battled. Kind of explained why he is having a hard time now, between finding his dad, his dads health, his job, his wife's problems etc. The poor guy.

Whatever happened to Jack must somehow involve Kate.

I actually found myself liking Miguel a little last night. I am very curious to see how his relationship with Rebecca developed.

Kate, Randall, and Kevin all seem to have a bit of a strained relationship with Rebecca. Is it only because of her marriage to Miguel- who they don't care for? Or did she hurt their beloved dad in some way?

I felt for Jack last night as she was singing to the ex with him in the audience.

Definitely felt for Jack to sit there on Valentine's Day and not have his wife give any type of gesture or even a glance to show she knew he was there -- for her.

If you ask me she's straying towards the edge of the line with behavior leaving Jack holding things together a good deal of time at home while she pursues her passion. That was problematic early on when the kids were young and Jack was drinking, which she insisted he stop. He's been fully committed, and showed it, all this time and Rebecca's venturing into that type of distancing with different behaviors, yet expecting him to accept it because it makes her happy.

I know the situations aren't completely the same, but it shows she really had a tendency to feel entitled to what she wanted as long as the house and the kids were functioning(like a job). Seems she left Jack to maintain his job, maintain his end of things at home -- and then it seems much of their relationship was left to him to tend to. So far we haven't seen her really make much effort on behalf of their marriage, merely respond to his efforts. I wonder if that's at all close to how it truly was for them?

Almost forgot to mention how pleased I was Kate unloaded on Duke and didn't fall for his slimy, disgusting predator act. In the age of instant social media I'm not really buying that the parents would turn a blind eye to their serial slimebucket son repeatedly using their clientele and jeopardize the "treatment" their business supposedly offers.

Also, if their methods of treatment are so successful, why is their son perpetually a chunky monkey?

Oh, yes, Toby was definitely mature and rational in this episode. Also, he was right. I've read on other forums that people thought his postponing the wedding was a form of emotional manipulation to get Kate to talk about her dad's death but all I could think to that was poor Toby just can't win with some people.

I was delighted Toby wasn't such a jokester this episode. The two of them actually conversing on a very serious level, Kate even used the word dig deep to describe what Toby was saying they should take as their next step, was a good sign for building what could be a solid relationship with actual depth and meaning.

Last night was not my favorite episode. I think Randall's wife and father are not giving him the support he needs. He has to work hard to provide for them and they don't appear to return his support. In a few episodes back, I could not believe that his wife guilted him into watching a chess match over a work obligation. Before his wife left town to take care of her mother I think she could have arranged care for the girls. I also understand his father is in pain but he doesn't seem to factor in that Randall has other obligations. When he locked the care giver out of the house (over wanting a Coke) I think Randall should have waited to go home until after the meeting. I also did not like the day Randall's father showed up unannounced in the middle of the day for a driving lesson. There are work obligations as well as personal ones and I don't think Randall's family is giving him a fair chance.

I also did not like Kevin walking out on the opening of his play to go check on Randall. Could he not have sent his mom or sister to handle it until the play was over? Once again I think family should support each other and help in shared responsibility.

See, my take on Randall is he's putting up a good front and won't LET anyone help him. At that point it wasn't clear to any of them he was at his breaking point. I think he was trying to follow Jack's example. We have different takes on the family/work situation but I'll say this, my DH would have been highly insulted if I had gone and arranged for someone else to take care of our kids. Doesn't Beth work also? Why would it be on her to arrange care?

On Kevin, him leaving the play showed tremendous growth on his part. Until now he's been completely shallow, rarely showing empathy and has resented Randall his entire life. Suddenly, it clicks that his brother needed HIM, Randall called HIM. Kevin heard what Randall wasn't saying. What would Jack do? Drop everything and help. It was 100% selfless, something that as far we know he's never been. In that moment nothing was more important than his brother. I would hope my kids would react the same, no matter what.

To me this was one of the best shows of the series if not the best so far.

I was so proud of Kevin for going and checking on Randal. I was so worried Randal was going try to take his life with all the stress he is under.
I can see Jack point about him not wanting Rebecca to go. I hate him drinking again.
Loving Toby more now then ever.

Still love this show!! I'm liking Toby and Kate's decision, and I was so glad she told the camp creep off!! I'm also liking Miguel more.

I thought before that Jack's death might be related to drinking, but now I definitely think so. And I'm afraid it will happen while Rebecca is away. I picture Kate trying to hold everything together for her brothers while her mom rushes home, and then just burying it all.

I love that Kevin did what Jack would have done! (I actually thought he was going to find Randall unconscious and call 911 and save his life.)

And I do think Rebecca is being selfish. Yes, she put her family's needs first when the kids were younger, but so did Jack - taking the responsible, "safe" job instead of starting a building company like he wanted to. They both made sacrifices.

Oh, and whoever said last week that Randall's kids were too perfect, the writers must have agreed with you! I thought about that conversation when they were bickering.

I read that Mandy Moore has said that Jack death will not be revealed for a long time.

My husband has a similar job to Randall's. We watched that episode together and he said he would have chosen the chess match too.
