This is us..

But how does that work with Kate feeling responsible for his death? She wouldn't consider a cardiac episode to be her fault, I wouldn't think. It would be a stretch to attribute the cardiac episode all the way back to her encouraging Jack to attend the show.

She convinces dad to go to the show, he goes, he drinks, argument ensues, mom leaves tour, dad goes to stay with Miguel "for a break", dad has heart attack and dies. I think those dots connect easily for a teenage girl.

Right, but what we're saying is that in the 70's that would be a stretch for a 28 year old. That would be more 18 year old behavior back then. On the whole most were a lot more mature in previous decades then they are now. Given what we've seen of Jack it just pushes the believability boundaries for me. In current day Rebecca is about my parents age. By 28 they were both long gone from home, had kids, second marriages, their own homes, solid work history etc. I get that they were trying to show us young Jack, it just didn't feel right to me. Twenty eight in the 70's wasn't young.

Oh, I agree. His age and what we've known of Jack really compounds how out of character the poker incidents were.

I think we have had no clues yet to how Jack dies other than that Kate blames herself. I think it is going to have nothing to do with the scenes we saw on Tuesday.

I really liked the episode, but after the huge cliff hanger they left us with at Christmas I was expecting something along those lines.

I read this thread every week, but never comment. I am addicted to this show! I think maybe Jack actually died already in that last episode. I feel like he left after that fight or possibly they never got home together at all. Jack's character would not have agreed to a separation for any period of time from his whole family without so much as a fight. He talks about the future of the kids in a way that is very far in the future to me. And after that speech he gives her at the end, they don't touch or embrace at all. He just turns and walks out. And when the door closes she's actually looking the other way and holding the necklace. I think he may be gone already.
I could be way off, but you never know!

That is actually a good theory. She seemed very distant while he was talking. She stayed in the chair fondling the necklace. Maybe she was fantasizing about what he would have/should have if they got the chance to make up. Not sure why Kate would feel it was her fault, unless it's just because she encouraged him to go talk to Rebecca, but that seems a little too obvious.

I said it was my guess where they're going with this. We will see, unfortunately. I have also said all along I am in no hurry for them to close the loop on when Jack dies, as it limits the stories they can tell with Jack in them.

This is very interesting, and really tragically heartbreaking.

This gives me goosebumps.

I also really liked the episode, but I like them all. I personally, am glad they didn't leave us with a nasty shocking cliffhanger. I watch enough shows that do that, cough cough Walking Dead I mean you, and it's kinda nice not to be left in the lurch.

I still want to believe that they will get back in a good place as a couple, before he dies.

I really liked the episode. I also like Rebecca and Beth and don't get the flack they get.

I get where Rebecca is coming from but Jack has also made sacrifices for their family. Rebecca never wanted to be married or have kids but she did it because she loved Jack and knew how much it meant to him. Now that the kids are older she wanted some time to herself. Also, Jack was never FULLY on board with her singing, even before the ex bf thing came out. He thought it took too much time away from the family. He just tried to be supportive and not look like a jerk. Once he found out he was her ex bf that made it worse. I think Rebecca did the right thing by leaving the night club.

I don't think their argument or situation warranted him leaving and don't think it's in Jack's character to leave over that. So what a PP said about him maybe being dead makes sense.

I was actually afraid Jack was going to hit Rebecca, like his father used to abuse his mother. I'm glad that didn't happen.

I did find it odd that there was no hug or kiss goodbye and then that wink. I think it would have to be after the fight though, otherwise why show it at all? It's a good theory but I hope you're wrong. I'd hate for their story to end that way.

Wow! I hadn't thought of that. Now THAT would be a twist. A good one too. Tragic, but good. You might be onto something there.

Oh and on the death theory maybe he died in his sleep, after that big fight. I don't get how she could have let him walk out after his little speech. It was touching.

IF (and of course it's still a big IF) this theory were true, maybe he DID die driving drunk and everything after it just Rebecca fantasizing about how it could have gone instead. Could have been on the way to see her. OR all that happened with the guy Ben and stuff happened and Rebecca decided to stay and sing afterall and Jack left drunk and then died. Either way,in those scenarios, Kate would blame herself for him driving to see Rebecca.

But I'm not sure if I buy into the theory or not but I think it's a good one.

Me too! When he advanced on her, I gasped and braced myself for it. So relieved when it didn't happen.

Same here! I thought maybe that was going to be the "shocking" moment. Was relieved it wasn't!
That was the only thing I could think of that could be shocking about their relationship. I mean, the rest if you've been married for any length of time is bound to happen at some point. No one is 100% happy all the time.
