This is us..

I think it's about Kate being fat because it's always been about Kate being fat. That's why they showed her struggling with weight issues at 8 years old. It will always be about weight with her. Also telling a fat person to just "eat less" is like telling an alcoholic to "drink less" it's not that easy. Especially when the problem is deep rooted in childhood, like Kate's. I think the fat boyfriend is to show that he will have compassion for her and they can bond. It's kind of sweet that they "get" each other. I don't think she wold be capable of being with a hot skinny guy, she has too many self esteem and body image issues.

Exactly. And Kate is very obese. It's going to be on her mind all the time. Like she said, she'll wonder if chairs will hold her, clothes will fit, etc. It's reality.

And, yes, I doubt she'd give a thinner "hot" guy a chance, even if he would her.

Well listen, I'm a big fan of eat less, move more but if your head isn't in the game that message is never going to click. As a formally obese person I can tell you that obesity is about SO much more than food. I am fortunate that obesity has not been a life long issue for me but a handful of very emotionally bad years so it was much easier for me to get my crap together once I could wrap my head around what the issue was. My sister has been obese her entire life and there were many meals in our home like the one depicted in the breakfast scene with the kids. We've had many, many conversations about what drives her to eat and she can't figure it out. She's lost more than a 100lbs more than once but until she pinpoints that issue, she'll never keep it off. She's had many hot boyfriends btw but she has also dated (and married) a big guy. What all these guys had in common was they want her to stay fat. I see that in Toby as well to a certain degree.

Is it the character you don't like or is it the subject makes you uncomfortable?

I seem to remember the poster having a very negative view of obese people in general. My apologies if I've confused her/him with another poster.

How do you figure? In the flashbacks they say they chose K names in honor of the doctor and seemed to have chosen them at the hospital. Kyle is the name they originally chose for Randall. I think in the end they felt it should have belonged to the baby that passed and why they decided to change Randall's name because they didn't want him to be a replacement.

Then I missed something...I thought she was talking about the triplets because William told her to give Kyle his own name.

They never said the name Kyle was intended for the baby that died. The impression was they named "the big three" there in the hospital giving the name Kyle to Randall. They don't seem to have been chosen before the babies were born but after (K being in honor of the doctor). So Kyle was never chosen for the baby who passed but by giving Randall a K name it felt like they were replacing the third baby. They both were kind of in denial that they had lost a baby. Acknowledging that Randall was not a triplet and changing his name is what helped them accept it.

And it's on an hour earlier.

That really threw me because I didn't remember being able to watch it and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. lol. I hope 9:00 EST is the time it will be from now on. Love this show!

GAH!! I love this show. I love love love love the scenes with Kate and Toby. I loved when he dropped the mike and she looks at him like, "what?" Her facial expressions are priceless. I was so touched when her brother "fired" her, it was like he finally realized it was her turn to shine.

EVERY storyline is so intriguing I can't stand it. It makes me laugh, cry and it goes by much too fast.

Oh my goodness!! I love this show!

And I'm SO WORRIED that Randall is going to find out that Rebecca has known about his biological dad all along!

In an interview I read w/ Mandy Moore, she said that, over the years, Randall becomes Rebecca's "favorite" & he holds a special place in his adopted mother's heart. There's a reason she's moved closer to Randall & Keven & Kate live away from their mother.

I just caught up tonight. Great episode! Oh my goodness, so many emotions. I lost track of how many times I cried. Still, though, it's killing me to not know how Rebecca ends up with Miguel. And I got the feeling Randall doesn't care much for Miguel, so now I don't like him, either.

I think it was a time lapse spotting of their relationship just showing that they were junkies together. It was actually during labor, delivery, etc. She died from an overdose is what I thought they said before. Not sure how old he actually was when he was dropped at the firehouse. Whether that was hours, days, etc.

Yes, it was showing their relationship and also their decline as the drugs took hold of their lives. William started out writing poetry on the bus, and she was beautiful, smiling, and in control. As time went on, his poetry and writing was breaking down until it was just a giant mess, and they both had trouble walking. In the beginning he had a bus pass or something. At the end, he was having difficulty putting enough coins together to ride. They were both out of it. I can't remember exactly what he said in the first episode about how his girlfriend died and how old Randall was at the time. I thought that he took him to the fire station on the day of his birth, but I'm not sure. I want to watch that episode again now, but I erased it from the DVR. I need to see if it's OnDemand.

A lot of people seem to dislike Miguel. I didn't get the same feeling from Randall. I don't think he feels a strong connection to Miguel or views him as a father-figure, but I didn't think he really disliked him. I'm probably wrong because I want Rebecca to end up with Miguel in an honorable way. :)

I thought it was a great episode, too, and didn't erase it so that I can watch it again if I find the time.

I hope you're right about Randall and Miguel. I could very well be misreading the scene where Randall is telling Miguel and Rebecca goodbye. I'm probably too biased because I so wanted Jack and Rebecca to last forever. My hope is that Jack and Rebecca were together until "death do us part", and Miguel stepped in after that. I wish they would reveal the answer soon.

No, I got the same feeling that Randall didn't like Miguel either. Randall said something like, thanks for coming by unannounced when he was saying his goodbyes. I wouldn't think you'd say that to someone that you like.

Something I can't figure out is.....how would the PI that Randall hired have been able to find William in the first place? Unless there is some sort of DNA on file for both Randall and William, what could he possibly have had to clue him in?

I've been wondering this too. You'd think if a PI can find him 36 years later the police could have found him at the time! Nothing was left with the baby other than a blanket right? That's one awesome PI!

I think Randall and Rebecca still live in the town that they all grew up in. The birth father was near there too. Kevin probably moved to LA for his career and Kate followed as she always has to be his personal assistant.

The first episode talked about people who share the same birthday, so I figure Randall was born the same day that Kate and Kevin were.

I watched it last night one my DVR and I didn't want it to end! I love this show.

I got the feeling that Randall didn't care for Miguel either. I can't wait for next week.

Well, I suppose I have my answer. Lack of K name mystery solved.
This board was the first thing I thought of when the names were being addressed!

The magic of television! :rolleyes2

This was awesome. When she said something like "I don't know how to be me. I only know how to be your sister". I love her character!

Seemed so since Rebecca saw him outside the hospital the day she left to go home. That tells me that he was waiting to see what happened to the boy.

I know! then he said something like, " I think you are really going to like her."

Love this show! I'm not crazy about Randal wife she seems almost hateful. I just adore Kate and Toby they are so realistic to me.

I also got the vibe that Randal and Miguel don't have the best relationship either.
