This Is Us- Season two

I thought the home birth was ridiculous. First babies generally don't go from no labor signals at all to arrival that fast.

I thought she had been having contractions for a while. A few times she seemed to grimace a little bit and rub her belly. Maybe I’m remembering wrong though.

My mom barely made it to the hospital to deliver my brother (first child), and they lived across the street from the hospital! My dad was doing his medical residency at the time, so he knew the signs, but she just was a fast laborer. A friend of mine gave birth to her first at home as well, her husband delivered the baby (not a doctor, and this was not a planned home birth lol)

I have no doubt it happens. Just not typical.

I saw Sterling K. Brown on some talk show a few months ago describing the birth of his son. It was a surprise home birth, and I think it was his first child. I wish I could remember which show it was on. I don't watch any talk shows, so I think I saw just the clip of his appearance.

Edit: I found it. It was Live with Kelly last November.

I found the birth pretty believable. I was induced with 3/4 kids. For the remaining baby (#3), we barely made it to the hospital, and the doctor missed it--she was delivered by 3 nurses and my EMT husband. Quick labor is more common with subsequent births, versus the first one, but it DOES happen. And in my case, I'd had Braxton-Hicks for ~48 hours before, had seen the doctor at noon that day, he said everything was locked up tight. Saw him 9.5 hours later, post-partum, so there you go.

I thought young Randall made the cutest Michael Jackson ever.

A friend of mine lives in a fancy gated neighborhood complete with a guard house. We trick or treated with them last year. In her neighborhood a street is blocked off and that's where most of the trick or treating takes place. It's pretty insane. They have a DJ on a stage, people serving catered meals in the their front driveway, a drunk person in a toga handing out mixed drinks, etc. My kids didn't like it because it didn't feel like traditional trick or treating and neither did I.

If you guys want to see a different side of Justin Hartley, you can see him in Bad Mom's Christmas. I am glad I saw it Wednesday, so I have a whole week to recover before seeing him as Kevin again LOL!

did anyone ever watch him in Passions

Didn't anyone else cringe so hard during Kevin's conversation with the director? I could barely watch it, so awkward.

Yep. We had to fast forward through a lot of the conversation because we knew it would be painful to watch. Same with Randall and the hardware store guy. I suppose that's a sign of a good scene - it's done well enough to convey the awkwardness they're going for. ;)

I find it annoying as well. Especially this week's episode, which introduced a whole other layer. I kept having to recalculate where we were. I get how it's an important part of the show but I found it annoying as well. Also, the camera movement last night seemed worse than I recall seeing before. Have they been doing that all along and I just don't recall?

What made the birth setup so contrived for me was a first baby who was so late induction was scheduled as far out as they medically felt safe to schedule -- and suddenly labor comes on with no signs and transitions into delivery before the ambulance can arrive?

In my old neighborhood, we gave out wine to the parents and candy to the kids, it was a super cute to-do!

It was actually William who told Rebecca to give him is own name, when Randall was an infant and she went to visit William at is apartment. She told him she was having trouble bonding with him. William told her to give him his own name. She then asked who Williams favorite poet was, and he handed her a book of poems. The poets last name was Randall. So Rebecca changed his name to Randall.

Yes I remembered it wrong. I know they renamed but at the beginning gave him the name they picked for their baby.

I wanted to know why Beth doesn't have her own car? If she started having contractions why didn't Rebecca just drive her to the hospital?! This show is SO unrealistic. We keep watching but now call it the longest hour of the week.
