This Is Us- Season two

That’s an interesting thought. When I watched the episode I thought Randall didn’t want to go to the Larson’s because they weren’t on his schedule. When he was made to go, that’s when they mentioned Kyle. I guess they could have mentioned it earlier too.
When he was working on the map he said he didn't want to go to the Larson's because they talk too much.

I finally watched last night. I thought it was a really good episode. I ugly cried when Rebecca was talking to the babies.

One thing that bothers me about the show is the inconsistencies in how far it seems to be between places. In last nights episode, I assume that Kate and Rebecca were living in Pittsburgh, Randall and Beth were in the NYC Suburbs and Kevin was in LA. When they all came after Tess was born, Rebecca flew there even though Pittsburgh and NYC are fairly close and Kate and Kevin just somehow appeared there. Kevin was flat broke, I really doubt he could have just gone to the airport and bought a ticket to fly home because his niece was born. I know it's TV and they take liberties with things, but for some reason, this bothers me.

I totally agree with this. He said they talk too much, so he didn't put them on his tight schedule. But when she made him go, they told him about Kyle. I don't think they had ever mentioned it earlier, Randall would have said something before if he already knew.

I thought it was interesting that they showed us both Kevin and Kate knowing what they were doing was wrong and going ahead and doing it anyway. IMO Kevin did feel guilty and that's why he leapt at the opportunity to get out of town. Unfortunately he cannot run away from himself. Kate accepted the guy wanting to leave immediately as what she deserved for sleeping with a married man.

I think these bad choices are meant to tie into Rebecca's talk to Tess, when she says you can get lost in the middle part of your life, or something to that effect.
I do not think Kevin felt particularly guilty. He had to leave because his roommate wasn't going to pay his rent for him after he betrayed him. At that selfish point in his life, I don't think he would have even went to visit Randall's baby if he hadn't needed to leave.

I don't think it was the fact that he was adopted, he obviously knows that, but it was that he "replaced" their other child that they "lost".

There is still part of the story that was untold to Randall though. They had actually named him Kyle, but then later changed his name to Randall. Was the baby who died also named Kyle?

I agree. And didn't he also mention they made you do tricks to get the candy (hopping on one foot or something?) and then it was only licorice? I wouldn't blame any kid for skipping that house!

That was the name they had already picked for the unborn child, it was the third child so they used it . It was the doctor that told them to give Randal his own name so Rebecca could bond with him.

It was actually William who told Rebecca to give him is own name, when Randall was an infant and she went to visit William at is apartment. She told him she was having trouble bonding with him. William told her to give him his own name. She then asked who Williams favorite poet was, and he handed her a book of poems. The poets last name was Randall. So Rebecca changed his name to Randall.

All that means is that they talk too much. Plus, as has been explained, they make people do stunts for candy and they only give out licorice.

I guess I am the only one who thinks all the time hopping is annoying. It makes my head spin. I like most of the characters and the story line of how the family came about is interesting enough, why keep showing us all the history? Move forward already. I hate the parents, love the three kids :duck:. Mandy Moore does not do it for me as a mother, for some reason I just don't like her in this role, especially when they throw a wig on her and try to make her look older, she seems so fake. This show could be so much better :upsidedow.

I thought Kevin was in NYC at that time.

Well I could be wrong.

I just read it as he was talking about his route - yes, but when pushed about just running over to the Larson's - since they were right there hardly off route - well he had his own reason why he didn't want to go. Ie. They had made that comment to him earlier.

And I disagree that Randall would have absolutely said something right away if told earlier. Is it possible that he would have? Absolutely. Good on him, I was not that kind of child. Probably good on his parents if he just brought it all back immediately and not processed it all first.

Also, someone already mentioned that he said they talk too much. I simply thought that was code for "they tell me things" as in they really talk too much.

Listen, I was wrong about another scene last week - so it's not like I'm putting any bets on me! popcorn::

To me Jack is the heart of the whole show.

If they didn't time hop, it would be so different. The point of the show is to see how they became who they are today. Plus, Jack is the center of the Pearson family. With no time hopping, there would be no Jack. The endearing part of the show, for many of us, is to see the past and how it shapes the future, and to see the "a ha" connections i.e. that is why she is like that, now I understand, that is how they met, that is how he came into the picture etc.

I also think they do a horrible job using Mandy as both younger and older Rebecca. I wish they used a different actress for older Rebecca.

I care about this the most. Fascinating for me.

Same reason I love Who Do You Think You Are? and Finding Your Roots. Despite not being fiction. There are so many stories of people not understanding the ways of their loved ones. And then getting a "Oh, I understand them a lot more now".

Inspires a heck of a lot more empathy.

I enjoyed last night's episode but one thing that annoyed me was the home birth. Randall was able to drive to and from the hardware store with no issues, but an ambulance couldn't make it after calling 911 because the streets were closed for Halloween? Am I the only one that found that odd?
I thought the home birth was ridiculous. First babies generally don't go from no labor signals at all to arrival that fast.

I find it annoying as well. Especially this week's episode, which introduced a whole other layer. I kept having to recalculate where we were. I get how it's an important part of the show but I found it annoying as well. Also, the camera movement last night seemed worse than I recall seeing before. Have they been doing that all along and I just don't recall?

Not sure about the camera movement but I do think the scenes bounced back and forth at a faster pace this week mom2rtk.

So quickly that I couldn't seem to follow Kevin's storyline, as far as location, all that well.

It did distract me somewhat from the actual story. To think did he just wiggle his nose or something?
