When Ellie showed up in Steelers gear I automatically thought scam. Then the phone call and having to leave but needing to take the bus and they gave her a ride. It made me think scam again.

Oh boy, this opens up a whole new can of worms. Did she get pregnant? Did she have an abortion or miscarriage? There is so much more to the story with Kate and this guy. It may explain so much when they finally unravel it.

I wonder if there are plans for them to sleep together that weekend - or he has been raping her and she knows it’s what’s going to happen and she’s upset she’s ovulating because she doesn’t want to get pregnant? Far fetched, I know.

Nothing ever goes smoothly for these characters, so I'm going to assume something is up with Ellie. The adoption may fall through and Kate gets pregnant again.

I'm pretty sure that was before the cabin. I remember they showed that clip before where she lied about hanging out with a girlfriend and then went to the cabin. We just never saw her going to the bathroom and taking that test until now.

I agree, although timelines have messed with us beforeI just can’t wrap my head around a teen taking one - and the look when it’s positive! And since nothing is unintentional on this show, it was definitely meant to be an ovulation test.

I actually think it’s in anticipation and he’s been forcing her/refusing to use protection and she’s scared.

Dan Fogleman promised on Twitter that we’d get answers when they return. Which is all well and good when it doesn’t come with more questions

I'm wondering if that is what was happening and whenever she was ovulating she would make up some excuse not to meet him, although we know she does meet him at the cabin after seeing these results. I'd be surprised if she was trying to get pregnant.

I saw the ovulation test and found it weird. I honestly didn’t even know OTC ovulation tests were a thing back then. And aren’t they expensive or were more expensive over 20 years ago.

I didn't even think about that, how much a test like that would be. This should be around 1998, (if they are born in 1980 and are 18) so it is possible ovulation tests existed, although I had my kids 1995 and 1999 and when I was trying to get pregnant I was just told to take my temp every day to figure out when I was ovulating. Having said that, doesn't mean those tests didn't exist.

If she did have a baby and give it up, we definitely would have seen some hint of it by now. Was the cabin weekend after Kevin got married or before? It's sometimes hard to keep it all in order lol

Is it possible she had the baby and gave it up for adoption and she never told anyone.? She could have put on weight to hide the pregnancy. Since she always struggled with weight, everyone would have just thought, Kate is off her diet. Maybe this is what led to her being so overweight as an adult, that she packed on the pounds to hide the pregnancy. I know that is far out there lol.

Im trying to remember how it played out. It's hard when we see it out of sequence. I remember a snow storm and Rebecca, Randall and Kevin rush to get Kate at the cabin. I can't remember why Rebecca and Randall went to NY to see Kevin.

I looked away for 2 seconds and I think I missed young Kate with a positive pregnancy test? Are they insinuating an abortion or she lost the baby due to violence from the boyfriend?

OR, her long lost baby that was put up for adoption will show up in 2nd half of the season

Interesting. The article says she confides in Toby that at 18 she was in a bad relationship and ended up pregnant. Did she say that to Toby and I missed it or the author mistook the ovulation test for a pregnancy test and jumped to that conclusion?

ETA: the answer to the question makes it seem to me like that maybe pregnancy isn’t where they’re headed. But know that’s what most people assumed.
