That nameless company I worked for wouldnt let us carry any sick days over. You got five, and if you didnt use it, it went away. They would always demand us at the first of the year to tell them when we wanted our vacation. How am I suppose to know this. I remember one time I put in for it, and then there was a meeting that was told was madatory, I had to delay my vacation by two days. and had to give up my hotel I paid for. They didnt care.

I understand that employee leave is a liability on the books...but really to take it away when you don't use it is a concept that would have the Australian workers up in arms.
Some companies have a trigger point here...if you accrue more than 6 weeks leave, they ask you take it. But none of that leave ever goes away.

I think most of the banks around here are doing the same thing, you can't blame them with the economy being so poor right now. It's pretty scary out there and I'm so thankful we both have fairly secure jobs. I hope thing improve sometime soon as our kids really struggle to make a go of it right now.

It is hard for the younger people to get jobs. It is very sad.

We can't keep any more than 400 hours of vacation on the books, but sick leave is unlimited. My DH has to put in his vacation dates at the very beginning of the year for the whole year as they need to keep coverage 7 days a week. I've gotten pretty good at planning ahead and neither one of us take random days unless it's a true emergency.

They still had to be approved. Like I said you could have it all planned and then bam you cant go. I always wanted to ask, then why ask us.

I agree, it's tough for these young adults. At least when we were young you knew if you had a good work ethic and some experience you could count on finding a job somewhere.

I tell you, I came across kids that did not want to work, they thought they could do there homework, come in out of uniform and do what ever they wanted. I am so glad I dont do that job anymore. The pay was terrible.

We have an unemployment benefit run by the government here. It kicks in after you register and have been unemployed for x number of weeks. I'm not sure but I think the x factor is either 7 or 9 weeks. The amount the pay per fortnight is less than minimum wage; but most young people prefer to get the benefit rather than go work in a warehouse.

I gave up posting last night as the DIS quit working for me.
