Ok just so everyone understands...I NEVER called nor meant to call anyone stupid. Especially when I'm on my phone during a work day I'm succinct and to the point which MAY if you read it the wrong way seem to lack tact...but...I didn't call anyone stupid...
Firstly...when I FIRST read this I thought you were making a very sarcastic joke. Very dry and witty...my kind of humour...
OK this may be a dumb question, but if it's a silent number, how do you hear it ring?

Or is it rigged to the lights like they do for deaf people?
When I saw this...I realised that maybe there had been a lost in translation
meaning - unlisted number
Then when I saw this...I felt a bit odd about this particular term being labelled as Aussies only
Ahhhhhh! OK those Aussies have a different word for everything!
So I thought I'd explain that it wasn't just us...
I'm VERY mindful of trying to use a universal form of English to try and cross the barriers...but there's certain words I hear from everyone I didn't see this one as a problem. Hence thinking you were joking originally.
The terminology 'silent number' is used in the UK and I know other north Americans know exactly what I mean when I say it.
Aussies didn't invent it.
So...
There ya go...
You'd have a NIGHTMARE trying to converse with my DBF. He uses very localised English terms rather than 'Queens English' and it makes quite a few things lost in translation. I've had to learn a new language...although there are certain terms I don't like

like "The ache".
The ache can be used to describe you if you are holding a grudge, or just pissed off. It just feels really weird to me so I ask him not to use it...
I've NEVER heard it used before meeting him.
So...
As the others say...
This is a wrong way to feel about what I said...
Not what I meant or said...
I apologize for being so ignorant that I had never heard of the terminology. Fran is always telling me that I was raised ignorant so this just confirms it. Obviously Usunz knew about it so I just must have been raised under the rock that Fran complains about. Sorry I'm so stoopid....
You are not stupid, there are alot of things that are said that I dont understand. It is just terminology that words are different to us. So your not stupid or ignorant. Chris knows alot of languages that I dont care to learn. The only thing I started to learn is sign language.
I had never heard the term before tonight either, so you should not feel bad, stoopid or ignorant. I sure don't. I've had an unlisted number for years. The cable company calls it an unpublished number. I liked your guess though. It was funny.
Moving along...
Better thank you. Me like drugs when they work...
It could be more than a month. The HMO will not allow you to make an appt with the specialist until the referral is approved. The specialist makes you give the referral number before booking the appt. I have to wait 1.5 weeks to see the primary, then 3-5 days for the referral to get approved (or denied), then however long the specialist makes me wait when I call. The urologist made me wait well over a month from the time I called. Then, he made me wait an additional three weeks to have the cytoscopy.
The ins does not automatically allow all referrals either. I waited five days from the appt with the PCP for my son's speech therapy referral only to have it denied. It was going to cost $150 an appt to bring him there, since the ins refused to cover it. The school district will not cover it either, because it is considered a normal developmental delay. They do not cover kids until they are officially behind. We are sending him to private school (at least for Kindergarten). Since we pay into the school with our property taxes, I was hoping they would help him.
When we had a PPO, I did not even need a referral to see a specialist. Those were the days. I just went. With this ins, you cannot even book with the specialist until you have a referral number. The specialists probably wised up, since not all referrals get approved and not everyone is dilligent enough to get the referral before the appt.
That SUCKS
I have a nephew that is going to speech pre K aged too. It costs a bit over $250 an hour, though they have good coverage that takes care of it.
$250 an hour? Really? There is no way the therapist is making anywhere close to that. More like total compensation of $50. Where does the other $200 go?
WHAT THE
My brother had speech therapy as a kid and I'm sure that there was some private cover on it...but even without it didn't cost ANYTHING like that. Even now I can't imagine her charging that much.
Good Night everyone. Sleep well when you get there. Move on to the weekend you two island dwellers.
