I do recall this now. How do you know how long to keep your wine for?

Basically it's trial and error. I got the cabinet about 15 years ago and have been receiving the same wines since then. Usually I just look up what I have done with that wine in the past and follow suit. I've only messed up badly on one wine and vineyard. I had to throw away 3-4 years of Cabernets because I thought they could go longer.

So Frustrated with HMOs right now by the way. I need to see my PCP just to get a referral for the endocrinologist. The first available appt is 03-20-12. I have been checking for a cancellation every hour for days now and still nothing sooner. Thank goodness it is nothing too serious. One of the last specialists I saw made me wait over a month for an appt and even longer for the testing. I want some more answers before our Disney trip thiis June, but who knows if I will have them.

The terminology 'silent number' is used in the UK and I know other north Americans know exactly what I mean when I say it.
Aussies didn't invent it.

As for referrals. It ain't perfect but there's parts of our medical system that do make life easier. My local GP/doctor can refer me to anyone and I can usually make an appointment with them myself without them having a referral with them.
Just need to show up with the piece of paper.

HMOs suck there is no way around it. HMOs are the way to make people think they are getting medical coverage when all they are getting is the invitation to jump through hoops to find out if the company will roll the dice and grant coverage.

We are lucky enough to have a doctor who practices what is called concierge medicine. We can call her at ANY time and she will get us answers. If we need to see her, she will work it out. I feel so awful when I hear about people who have awful old s hook doctors who won't see their patients in a timely manner to actually take care of them. Good luck with your appointments!

It could be more than a month. The HMO will not allow you to make an appt with the specialist until the referral is approved. The specialist makes you give the referral number before booking the appt. I have to wait 1.5 weeks to see the primary, then 3-5 days for the referral to get approved (or denied), then however long the specialist makes me wait when I call. The urologist made me wait well over a month from the time I called. Then, he made me wait an additional three weeks to have the cytoscopy.

Why would her post count change? That is weird.

Yes. The ins does not automatically allow all referrals either. I waited five days from the appt with the PCP for my son's speech therapy referral only to have it denied. It was going to cost $150 an appt to bring him there, since the ins refused to cover it. The school district will not cover it either, because it is considered a normal developmental delay. They do not cover kids until they are officially behind. We are sending him to private school (at least for Kindergarten). Since we pay into the school with our property taxes, I was hoping they would help him.

When we had a PPO, I did not even need a referral to see a specialist. Those were the days. I just went. With this ins, you cannot even book with the specialist until you have a referral number. The specialists probably wised up, since not all referrals get approved and not everyone is dilligent enough to get the referral before the appt.

So true. I keep assuming I will see an endocrinologist, since were are paying $1000 a month for this ins. The referral could be denied. The Doctor I used to work for has some concierge patients (not enough to build an entire practice around). He charges a pretty penny for that serivce, so I could not do it. I would though in different circumstances, because he is an excellent Doctor. He does not take my HMO though, so a referral from him would not do me any good. Plus, I no longer work for him, so I do not want to take advantage of his kindness. It is his bithday in 5 minutes too. I already wished him an early birthday via Facebook.

You are not stupid, there are alot of things that are said that I dont understand. It is just terminology that words are different to us. So your not stupid or ignorant. Chris knows alot of languages that I dont care to learn. The only thing I started to learn is sign language.
