Basically Tom Cruise just needs to stop acting.

I've never heard of this character but many times a character changes from the book to the movie. So the character in the movie will be smaller then the one from the book, it's not the first time and it won't be the last. Heck, there have been times that an actor who is the wrong race has played a role. They've had white blue-eyed actors play Jesus despite it being pretty inaccurate.

As for Interview with a Vampire I never read the book, don't know anything about the character differences, but still liked the movie and I think it did pretty well at the box office.

That is true, but who Reacher is as a character is very intertwined with his appearance. The things he is able to do to help people is often dependant on his brute strength and ability to intimidate. So where I think they don't need to cast someone who matches the description 100%, a little bit closer than Mr. Cruise would be more believable.

Wrong choice..

There was a blub I saw on TV about the author and one of the book signings.. Part of the festivities as a "look alike" contest for Reacher.. the guy they showed.. was very close to what I would have pictured for the character.. not Tom.. sigh..

That said.. about time they made a movie.. really the stories just scream.. summer action movie.
