I burn a little, but then it turns into a tan the next day. I use SPF30 too. I have nice skin and it tans very nicely. I'm happy.
But I got a horrible burn on my back last week (I went to the shore for the day, and it was cloudy, so I didn't put any sunscreen on..BIG MISTAKE!!). It was so red and it hurt to even lift my arms a little bit. It's finally done peeling and it's really, really tan now. It's darker than the rest of my body, it's pretty weird.
But in your case, keep re-applying sunscreen. That's the only thing that'll work.
