This doesn't bother anyone?

Just curious.. I know the REASON why they have you put your bags out by 11pm on the last night of the cruise and realize it's necessary... but does it not bother anyone to do that? Put all your luggage besides day bag/carry ons for flight out in the hallway at 11pm? People will still be up at that hour- wouldn't they? How is this any different than oh say the resorts having you put your bags outside your door by 11pm the night before you check out?
Not saying anyone would steal- but wouldn't someone, sometime, possibly be tempted by all those bags sitting outside each door on each deck after 11pm on that night?

Or do you just feel safe with this because you lock your bags- then unlock them before checking them in at the airport?

Our most valuable things (computer and digital camera) were carry ons. The stateroom attendant grabbed our bags within mminutes after we put them out. They don't sit out there for long.

Any cameras, jewelry, pictures, etc stayed with us. And we also noticed the bags didn't stay in the halls for long. We are night people and didn't leave our cabin till after our bags had been picked up.

Okay. I feel a little better about it that they aren't sitting out there for hours. LOL I didn't know they were picked up rather quickly.
I also would have the MOST valuable things with us in our carry on bags- but there's only so much you can carry when you have 3 children/total of 5. Invariably there's still going to be items in our bags that I would miss if they like "disappeared". LOL Good to know they are picked up quickly. Thanks!

I'm glas someone else feels the way I feel. I have taken 9 cruises and have never felt comfortable leaving my bags out at night. Recently, I have begun to take my bags off with me instead (which is great with rolled luggage). On the Wonder in June, we went to BBB for breakfast at 7:15am (left our luggage in our room), went back to the room to freshen up at 7:45am, then walked off the ship with our luggage at 7:55am straight to the bus. I guess I'm a little obsessive-compulsive about some things.

On our cruise this past August we had late dining, we got back to our cabin a little after ten and put our suitcases out about 10:30, they were picked up as we were putting them out, our room steward took them right out of my hands. That's what I call service!!!

Yes, it does make me nervous. Everything was fine....but I worried. It would also make the question at the airport difficult to truthfully answer..."Have these bags been in your possession since they were packed?" We drove, so I didn't have to wrestle with that one! So, yes, I put them out, and yes, it kind of worried me to do so.

Ever since they issued the "don't lock your luggage rule" we have used colored zip ties to secure our luggage (lime green of course). Leaving bags out overnight has been an industry standard for as long as I've been cruising (over 25 years).

As already stated the bags aren't in the hall very long at all as the stewards work very quickly to get them taken care of.

If they didn't have all night to sort them by color etc. how long do you think it would take to disembark? A long time.

While some may keep their luggage with them (and they really should then be taking it with them to breakfast) think of how crowded it would be if everyone did that.

I have no problem with leaving mine out the night before.

If I'm not mistaken, they stopped asking this particular question last year.

Personally, I worry far more about not being able to lock the luggage I check.

But rules are rules. Disney is not unique in this.

Do I like it? Not really.

But it's just the way it is.

You dont have to put your bags out...

U can carry all your stuff to breakfast and carry it off the ship if u like .... I prefer putting them out the night before ......

After 9 DCL cruises....and various other cruises it really does not bother me about leaving luggage out. Every cruise line does this as well as the Hyatt at Orlando Airport (if you are using DCL transfers you must have your luggage at by 8:00 am in the morning). As other posters have said on DCL the luggage is picked up almost instantly after being put out your door.

I think luggage sits around longer in the hallway when they are bringing it to your room at the beginning of the cruise since not everyone is at their cabin when their luggage comes.

I would hope people would not bring their big bags to breakfast in the morning (especially in the dining rooms). There is not enough room and it is already tough to manuever around all the carry ons we have to bring. If you have late seating and opt to eat in one of the dining rooms you have to bring your carry on stuff with you.

I still believe the notion that people are generally honest and it would be a sad thought if I couldn't trust my fellow cruisers to leave my bags alone while outside my door. If I ever got to that point, I would stay home.

i always leave my bags locked.....including when i fly...
i've had this conversation with airline security....
the only thing that might happen when they check the luggage for security is they might break the lock....
but they usually don't have to check inside my suitcase and in that case they don't break my lock...so i'm better off leaving it locked.....if they break it, i'm no worse off than had i left it unlocked..
i travel a foreign airline that REQUIRES the luggage to arrive at their door locked.....if it's not locked when arriving by transfer from other airlines, it has to be totally emptied and hand searched...
bottom line....i lock everything...
on ship and off...

Anything I care about stays with me. Everything else goes in the luggage in the hallway. If someone wants to take it, let them have it. Isnt' that why we have insurance? It is seriously not worth the worry.

Insurance doesn't cover very much for luggage does it? Unless you list out the amount for everything? I doubt I'd do that... yet I'd have over $300 worth of clothes in the suitcase. I was thinking more like the whole suitcase being picked up and taken- rather than picked through for particular items in full view of anyone in the corridor. LOL

I tend to trust people to a point that is sometimes too far (learned the hard way) but I really don't see what the difference would be of leaving your bags outside your resort door at WDW. EXCEPT FOR the fact the stewards pick them up quickly. But if they didn't- it'd be the same. Would you put all your bags outside your resort door the night before you check out? I don't think being cautious or having little concerns enough to ask why others aren't concerned means a person should just stay home. Geesh

Jim, I'm with you... bugs me to not lock checked baggage too but I usually check in at the airport (when leaving DFW) cutting it fairly close to flight time- so I know they are rushing my bag on the plane and don't really have time to mess with it. But really it's in the possession of the airline's & airport employees- not just anyone in the airport could have an opportunity to mess with the baggage. I guess I tend to trust those in a paid position with something to lose if caught messing with baggage or stealing/etc than strangers that just happen across my baggage somewhere.

I do feel more comfortable with the baggage out thing- now that I know it's not like sitting there half the night unattended.

However, I did NOT know that the bags are placed outside the doors when we leave on the cruise also... we usually have a lot of bags with 5 people.... so I guess we better keep an eye on our stateroom looking for our luggage to arrive so we won't have a huge pile of luggage there (okay well I know the limit would be 10 bags.... LOL)

Lock your bags with disposable luggage locks or cable ties. If they are opened you will know. The only thing that could happen is that someone could walk off with your whole bag, which is unlikely.

I like the 11:00 deadline for luggage out in the halls....

I then don't have to stay out too late that night...I do my best souvenier hunting after 11:00 w/ all of the luggage out in the hallway!!! Cruisers buy some of the coolest things!!

On 9 trips, I don't think my bags were ever in the hall for more than 15 minutes. The staff is out there removing them as quickly as you put them out.

Like one poster said I worry more about them bringing the luggage to my stateroom (have had it delivered to the wrong cabin once on a different line which was a living nightmare) sitting out in the hall until we get there to put it inside than putting it out at night. I figure if someone wants my dirty underwear, t-shirts and scummy shoes go for it. I hate to open that thing when I get home and it's my stuff..I cant imagine the stench of opening someone elses dirty laundry just hoping something worth something is in it!

When we are ready to put it out we snag our room steward, give him a little "tip" usually 5-10 dollars and ask him to take it downstairs right then. It goes over pretty well and so far havent had anything stolen. We also use the zip tie things and they work really well and we are able to tell if they were opened. So far (even traveling the Friday AFTER 9-11 home from Disneyland) we have zip tied everything and never had the zip ties broken.

Exactly.... using zipties and knowing they pick them up so quickly- I'm not worried about putting them out on the last night now.... now I'm worried about GETTING them to our room! LOL And I can't be standing there waiting for them- could take forever and besides, I have ressies to make! LOL Maybe I'll delegate DH to stay there and wait.... HEHE

We took a trip with friends before the "please do not lock your bags, use cable ties" era. We locked our bags, as we always had and I noticed they didn't have locks on their bags. When I ask them their response was, "we never lock them. Anything of value is in their carry-on and if someone wants their clothes, well, they are replaceable." Well, our next trip we took cable ties were requested so we used them. We were nervous but no problems. Just keep valuables in the carry-on bag.

My first cruise back in '97 I was shocked that luggage went out in the hall the night before. Again, no problems. Now I am use to it. We remember the first time at the Airport Hyatt when we had to move our own bags down to the DCL buses, what a hassel that was. The next cruise in '01 we were surprised that they started the cruise idea of placing your bags out in the hall. Only at the Hyatt it was early morning, I think it was 8:00 am. We loved the idea! We were starting the cruise just like it ends. The next time we saw our bags was outside our stateroom door.
