This can't be good for the iPhone 4

No kidding! This guy is nuts. I don't think that he has an iphone4 because he is acting like he has hated it the whole time and can only return it since the press conference. If you own an iPhone you would be aware of the refund with no restocking fee that has been in place for a while.

Also, apple did step up and fix this very fast. 22 days is lightspeed for a huge company to make a decision that will cost them millions and millions.

P.s. I bought three iPhones and the signal issue is a non issue for us. Proximity sensor is the only problem im having and that is not a deal breaker for me'.

Nobody is nuts. They did change the return policy. Under the previous policy you had to pay a $20.00 restocking fee for an 8 gig and a $30.00 restocking fee for a 16 gig. They have waived that restocking fee as a result of this issue.
Maybe I have a unique view point because I deal with technology all day long but I don't get the polarization on this issue. On one side you have people screaming that this, relatively minor glitch is the Death of the iphone and a plot by evil Steve Jobs to take over the world. On the other side you have mass hysterics at the mere suggestion something could be wrong with an Apple product.
The glitch exists, I can recreate it on my phone, consumer reports did extensive testing etc etc. Even Steve admitted Apple isn't perfect.
So what? ALL new technology has glitches, bugs etc. If you buy on the "bleeding edge" of technology and don't expect a bug or two you are fooling yourself.
If you aren't willing to deal with an occasional bug then quite simply you should stay with tried and true proven technology.

I think there might be a huge gray area in between these camps.:thumbsup2

I had an iPhone 3G for 2 years until I decided to switch to the HTC Incredible (Android). I have said before and I will continue to say that the iPhone is GREAT phone. Too bad it's on AT&T. I switched to the Android phone because it's on Verizon.

Yes, many of you don't have a problem with AT&T and neither do I when I am home in Central Florida but I have to travel to Maine quite often and the service there is bad.

When (if?) the iPhone is ever offered at Verizon, I'll consider switching back to the iPhone. The Android is a wonderful phone and I would have to think seriously about switching but I may.

Now, about the iPhone 4's antenna problem. I'm a techie. I understand this stuff. What I don't understand is why Apple took such a big gamble on this design even after one of their chief designers warned them of the potential problem. In any case, this is what business is all about. Apple took a big gamble and they lost. Now they have to pay for it by giving everyone (who wants them) a free case. Also, the bad publicity certainly isn't going to help Apple sales for the near term, but people have short memories.

What you said is totally true and I never got that either! For instance, using one of your examples, I have tried Macs, and for me personally, a PC works better. But I don't rip apart Macs when there is bad press (such as that monitor issue they had on one of the recent ones) because I have no idea what I am talking about! Once people have true experience with a product they should share. Otherwise, they should try it out before they believe all the bad press.

This actually reminds me of a similar Disney situation. I booked All Star Music last year, and then was a little worried about my decision when I read some of the Pop lovers ripping it apart. But I didn't change my reservation because I had no first hand knowledge of whether ASM would be good for me. I am glad I didn't change since I really liked it. Anyway, my whole point in this comparison is that I hope people considering an iPhone 4 don't get turned off by all the negative hype, some from people who have never even used it. iPhone 4 may be your cup of tea, like it is for me, and it may not, but you will never know for you personally until you actually try it.
Replace the word iPhone with xbox 369/ps3, PC/Mac, heck even Disney/Universal.
Such is life, as long as I'm happy with what I got I TRY to ignore the bickering (note TRY, sometimes I can't help myself and rise to the bait :lmao:)

:goodvibes

We put a Zagg Invisible Shield on the front and back and have no problems with the phone at all.

No signal degradation, no reception issues, no dropped calls.....maybe we got lucky.

Hi Kevin:)
Did you guys get iPhone4s? I remember you saying you experienced a real slowdown in your iPhone when you upgraded the software? What happened with that? I am curious because I have experienced the same thing with my 3G.

Thanks :)

anything else. Polarity is it.

Either Apple products are the best or the worst.

Either you're one of "us" or "them" politically.

Either you get everything you deserve/expect from a Disney trip, or your vacation is ruined.

Since when did someone's opinion/choice/desires have to be validated by a necessity of disparaging those of another? I don't own an iphone because AT&T is not a good service where I live. It doesn't mean I have to rationalize my choice of carrier and hardware by some demonization of Jobs.

Webmaster Alex's comments are a welcome breath of fresh air.

I am definitely in that gray area. I am an IT Professional by trade as well as a geek, I believe in the best technology not what name is on it. Everyone of the 7 Servers/Computers/Notebooks in my house are running Windows. Now I have an iPhone 4 and had an iPhone 3Gs because I feel they were/are the best technology available. Android is getting there but in my opinion not there yet. Like I stated earlier I did have the antenna issue and the bumper case fixed it, Apple is doing the right thing by giving away cases and I plan to get a refund for mine. Did they handle it perfectly? No way but they are handling it now.

If you aren't willing to deal with an occasional bug then quite simply you should stay with tried and true proven technology.

I'm still using my Nokia 5910 from 2001 and am hoping it'll hang on until T-Mobile
gets the iPhone. For me, the biggest iPhone bug is that you have to have AT&T to use it!

Oh, for Pete's sake.

The new iPhone has a defect. They're working on fixing it. Big whup.

The defect doesn't mean Apple just sucks.

And just because you aren't having trouble doesn't mean that nobody is having any.

Geesh.

If you read this thread you wouldn't think so!

This is so true. I like many Apple products. I have an iPad (that I won btw), I have an iPod Touch and I have "had" an iPhone before. The phone is not the best phone on the market. I truly find the Droid Incredible to be superior. To say all Apple products "stink" is insane. To wear blinders and think Apple can do no wrong is even worse. Blindly defending or hating is ridiculous. Good points Alex!!

Steve Jobs was a jerk throughout this thing though. First he says "well you are holding the phone wrong". What a dismissive statement. Then he denied there was a problem. Then he said it was a software glitch. These statements were all lies. Even in his "we aren't perfect" release, his defensiveness couldn't allow himself to just admit fault. He had to take shots at the media, Blackberry, and people complaining. He has clear signs of narcissism. But I dig the guy's business sense but I don't appreciate his lack of PR skills.

Agreed. Like Alex, I can recreate the problem. But I read the summary of the press conference where Jobs said .55% of their customers called to complain about the reception/signal. The problem with that number is it is skewed by people like me (and DH) who didn't call because we read on the internet that everyone was having a problem with it so calling wouldn't help and further, we love the phone so much we wouldn't return it anyway. I admire that they stepped up, admitted they were wrong and are fixing it. Regardless, I would've just kept it - it is THAT good (imo of course!)

Agreed! Mr. Jobs clearly thinks too highly of himself. DH has the problem with his phone and when we realized it was happening my first thought was, "No wonder they're pushing those bumpers." I 100% believe they knew there was a problem.

That said the only thing that will separate me from my 3GS is the iphone4 which will be my soon and DH must thank me every other day for his "Father's Day Present." It's not blindly following for me, I ADORE the phone(s) even knowing they have issues and my distaste for itunes and Mr. Jobs.

I have to admit I was bugged by the "facts" he was throwing out there. I know plenty of people that have the issue but why in the world would I waste hours on the phone to say "me too". After the first 100,000 or so people complained it was all over the internet and everyone knew not to waste their time

Well, the 'hes nuts nuts' comment was directed towards the fact that apple is giving a full refund for the iPhone 4 if you are unsatisfied and he says that they are not standing by their product. They had a presser 22days after the release of the phone to give away free cases and he says that they took too long. That's why. I know that in real life he/she isn't nuts, but on this topic he/she is.

Apple was allowing people to return the phone with no restocking fee before the press conference also.

That being said, Id love some cake and Icecream!

Correct. I agree with this. As i stated, i am NOW using my 3GS. I am no longer an owner of an iPhone 4. I will (as i stated earlier) be an owner of an iPhone 4.1 (or whatever they use to differentiate between phone with Antenna issue and phone without Antenna issue) I am neither blindy supporting, nor blindly bashing apple. I am agnostic. I have Macs, PC's, SOny MP3 players and IPods/phones. But if a product has issues, i will point them out to people who ask.

Once again, I agree with you Matt. It was the whole "It's not a product problem it's a consumer problem" attitude for the first 3 weeks of the products life that bothered me. This may be standing behind your product, but it is not standing behind your customer.

I stand by my comment. If it were not for the Consumers Reports article, do you think they would have done what they did? Even in the press conference they didn't really admit culpability, they just said "since there is such a big stink being made, fine bring it back and get your money back"

As has been noted on other threads, I work for HP. I hate the HP Ipaq line of phones that I had been forced to use for the last 5 years. We just bought Palm, and i am not looking forward to a Palm based product. I LOVE my iPhone (3GS) and I am looking forward to the fixed release of the iPhone 4. It has some great features, it's just that the one i need to rely on is the PHONE part.

It doesn't matter why they are doing what they are doing. The fact is that they are standing behind their product and that is not debatable. There is no better support than a full refund.

Just for the record. I love debating things like ,"my toy is better than yours" but I don't want to be offensive. I hope you know that this is not a major issue to me one way or the other. I'm just arguing for the sake of it.

I never said all iPhone 4s work.

I said the ones John and I have work fine.

I am happy with the product I purchased. I think it's great.

I never said that there werent problems with other iPhones. I said there werent any problems with MINE.

I dont care if you like iPhones. I dont care if you even have a cell phone.

If you do have an iPhone and dont like it or it doesnt work...return it and buy a phone you like.

With that overly dramatic pronouncement....I am officially done talking about iPhones.
