This Blanket Situation is Out of Control!!

While this is a problem I think today was much worse than normal as there were two pre-parades that would have targeted two different groups of people. There was an enormous dance pre-parade, like not just a band, minutes of constant children streaming by, and then the Dick Van Dyke cavalcade that was right before the parade, featuring him, family members, Mary and Bert, Penguins, and Chimney sweeps. So while it does happen, today was most likely an extreme example of such behavior

Yeah, we were there today for the Dick Van Dyke pre parade cavalcade and Christmas Fantasy Parade. I didn't think it was as bad today as it was yesterday for the first Christmas Fantasy parade. I may have just been sitting in a different section that wasn't as bad, though.

If it hasn't already been mentioned, I would suggest you send a comment about this with your photo attached to Guest Services. They need to know what's going on and your photo communicates a lot. Disney needs to know that there is a lot of support for security CMs being vigilant and consistent about this issue.

The big problem is,,who's to blame? Disney, the tourists, the APers. Didn't they have people campin out for 7 hours for the the first PTN Parade on the 60th?
People camp out a week before Black Friday, the opening of a movie, when they already have tickets. When will it end?

Um, this is not "camping out".

Can you imagine putting a blanket down at Best Buy a week before Black Friday then coming back to claim your spot?

"Camping out" would involve having your behind in that spot.

Like one of the PP suggested, I would send that lovely photo of yours to DL Guest Services. Seriously, more people need to complain about this behavior being allowed. It's one thing if your buns are on your blanket, but empty blankets to save spots should simply not be permitted, IMHO.

I'm glad Disney is finally doing something. I dislike seeing people claiming spots for parades, Fantasmic and other shows hours before the scheduled start.

Yeah. People can get pretty territorial. This isn't blanket related but....I was trying to make my way through many a seated people, waiting for PTN parade at the curb off Main St. my only goal was to not step or trip over anyone, while trying to reach the churro cart across the way. There were two tiny girls sitting at that curb where I was walking through and I said excuse me (Nicely lol) but I just want to go over there. So they moved a bit so I could do so freely. Next thing you know a woman, guess their mom, comes up from behind me and starts saying in a nasty tone something about waiting two hours blah blah all the while I am walking in between the youngins. Lmao! I was not about to stand there telling her anything when all I wanted was my churro. So I acted like I didn't hear her mouth.
Got my churro, which was in two pieces by the way, lol I think the CM making them was new. Nice kid though.
So got me churro and realized what perfect timing it all was, for the parade was to start in less than 10 minutes, so had a great spot and a hot fresh churro! :)

When we were there for the 24 hour day and kick-off for the 60th, the blanket thing was out of control too! We were told that if you saved a spot you could not just lay a blanket down and that your entire party had to be there, and on that day, that you couldn't lay there and sleep. But, people were doing the exact thing that the CM's said not to do and nothing much was being done about it.

It does irritate me when we do go an hour or more before an event to find a good place and then people try to squeeze in at the last minute. And this doesn't just happen at Disneyland. Our town has an annual Christmas parade at night and people bring lawn chairs and blankets at 6-7 in the morning to save a spot for the 7:00pm parade. This year there were mattresses by the curb a couple of hours before the parade started! Ridiculous!

Completely off topic, but HOW COOL! Did you get any photos? That would have been so awesome to see!

Actually, this pic is of one family. They had 6 blankets (a couple are not shown in the picture) spread all down one section of the curb. The lady didn't move to the middle until we went over to their blankets and looked to see if any were unattended. While we were looking at their blankets, the guy came over and said "These are OURS!" while giving us a dirty look for questioning their blankets.

Those weren't the only blankets that were out down the street. There were several blankets down different points of Main Street that looked to be unattended with no one around.

I would have picked it up and said here ya go.

That really is nervy.

Maybe one of us should try that then sell the spots for $50 each. Maybe then they'd really address the issue.

You make a good point. There are usually rules for things like that. My brother and his wife met while attending Duke University; they met while camping out for basketball tickets. Not sure if it's done the same now, but in the early 90s there were intense rules for the process. A certain percentage of the people in your group had to be there at all times, so you couldn't get a group from your engineering classes, because you'd all have to go to class. You had to choose your group carefully!

Leaving a blanket isn't camping out, though obviously people think it is LOL.

Eh, if they are *there* it's OK.

That is so ridiculous. I'm not a parade person, but if your butt isn't there, the seat isn't saved. Seriously now, people. Disney should make that the rule.
