Thinking of skipping HS this time???

This one is just killing me. First, we don't have park hoppers. We don't use them and won't buy them just for this one day. HS isn't usually a full day for us, but we'd go in the morning, stay until mid-afternoon, take a break, go back in the evening. Found plenty to do to take up that time.

This year, it seems not so much. I'm going through the list of things to do...

Toy story - yes
Tower of Terror - yes
RnRC - DH rides this while the rest of us do ToT.
Great Movie Ride - yes
Muppets - yes
Great Movie Ride - yes
Indiana Jones -- done it, no desire to go back
Lights, Motor, Action -- done it a few times, no need to go back
Fantasmic -- done it a bunch of times, not sure about going again (would rather ride rides with short lines!)
Honey I Shrunk the Kids -- boys too old now
Animation Academy - closed
Backlot tour - closed
Disney Jr. -- kids too old
Beauty & the Beast -- boys say no way!
Little Mermaid -- see above
All the Frozen stuff -- see above x 1,000!!!
One Man's Dream - May be closed by the time we get there

Is that really all that's left???? Guess on our DQ and DTD day, we'll go here after and spend maybe a couple hours. Can't see doing more than that. Just seems so sad.....

If ToT wasn't my absolute favorite ride in any park, we might be skipping altogether. If only they could move that to MK, I'd be all set! Just kind of kills me that we're using a park admission day for just a few rides.

I wouldn't be able to skip DHS. TOT is my favorite ride ever too!

But we always have AP's, which include the hopper option.

You didn't include Star Tours or Jedi Academy on your list. Not saying you'd want to go necessarily, but since your boys seemed to be so adamantly against any of the "girly" princess stuff, I thought they might want to do the others.

I talked about this in another thread. I have too much FOMO (fear of missing out) to skip a park altogether. We are only planning to go to HS once during our 7 day stay, but I couldn't just say no HS.

At 13 and 15, Jedi Academy isn't on the list! And, believe it or not, absolutely zero interest in Star Wars, so Star Tours has never been a go-to for us.

We have skipped it the last few trips. Even with everything open it was our least fav park and we only did it with a hopper. I think it is downright criminal that they are charging full price for the place!

For me, there is not a lot of repeatability...I have seen fantastic about 4 times and I think I'm good for years until I see it again...same with the stage shows (odd because I see fest of lion king every trip!) I hate drop rides so tot is out.

I could ride toy story al day but we all know that won't happen haha. And I am very sad about the prospect of one man's dream closing :(

Go to universal for the day or then waterpark or the pool...I think you and the boys Wil have a much better time.

I skipped HS once and I could never do that again unless ToT was closed for some Godforsaken reason. That attraction is so amazing from the moment I see it to the moment I walk away from it. The other headliners are great too but Star Tours has been making me nauseous the last couple of times. And I love the Muppets (even though I wish it would just get a new movie).

I was thinking about skipping, too. Although, my boys will be 2 and 4, so there is even less for us there.

Even with an AP which gives me hopping, I don't set foot in DHS anymore. I'd do ToT, MAYBE RnRC (though they really need to figure out how to prevent that IMHO completely unsafe crowding in the boarding area before I'm comfortable with it), and Muppets. It's not worth it to me to spend all the time getting there and then all the time getting to another park - lots of wasted time in the day for me.

I haven't read all the replies yet, but...

I would go with the idea of spending a partial day there on your otherwise DTD/non-park day. Hit DHS at rope drop and knock out the few things you want to do and call it good. How many days are you planning to have park admission, and how much will it cost you to add one more day? Looking at my next year's trip, based on current UT-via-Mousesavers prices, it would cost me just $9 to go from a 6 day to a 7 day hopper and I could spend some afternoon/evening time at Epcot on my arrival day - worth it to me.

I'm not skipping DHS as long as Star Tours and TSM are open - but this is one of the reasons I love having hoppers.

Just back and RNR was down for most of our trip(got to ride once but as this is my youngest a favorite he was a little disappointed)
Toy story is our family favorite so we have to go for that one ride. And we love ToT.

But based on what you said I would vote skip. I believe this park will undergo a major overhall. Rumors flying about virtual reality purchase and what it could mean for this park. (Post the closing of disneyquest)
We will take a year off I think while they figure it all out.

Normally we would go to DHS twice in a trip, we really like it there. However, DH said that he would just rather go to it once on our upcoming trip since he is foreseeing lots and lots of construction walls going up, he wouldn't even step foot in AK when we were there in January because of all of the construction walls that he saw in pictures and read about on line, however, he did agree to go to AK for half a day on our departure day because he really missed riding EE. And what is even worse, we were talking about our trip next June and we both decided that we are going to skip out on DHS altogether...we are thinking of heading over to US/IOA for a day instead. My kids will be bummed because they love DHS (they can't get enough of ToT and RnRC), however, once they learn that we will be checking out Harry Potter Land for the first time, I think they will get over it really fast (they have been wanting to check it out for a while now) :goodvibes.

I think 5 attractions is worth going for a few hours if the additional ticket cost isn't too much (not sure how many days you are planning). That would be the biggest deciding factor for me. And time of course.

I still like the vibe as you enter and on Sunset, I love the old Hollywood theme. But I am also a fan of skipping parks, absence makes the heart grow fonder and I have a feeling DHS is going to become a skipped park for a lot of folks over the next couple of years.

If it wasn't for Rock'N Roller coaster, we'd skip it as well. It's getting ready to be a real mess for the next 2-3 years, once the major expansion and refurb begins. Better enjoy it at least for a few hours, while you can.

I can't skip DHS because TOT is mine and DD's favorite ride.

We get hoppers and I have one PM EMH evening there and one morning where I plan to be there for 3 hours or so. We are going for 10 nights and I have to ride ToT more than once.

Studios has five or six of my favourite things in all of Disney to do. I spend more time here and EPCOT than I do any other park. Star Tours, Rock n' Roller Coaster, Tower of Terror, Lights Motor Action, 50's Prime Time Cafe & Sci Fi Drive In.

The time spending to get there is nothing to me. We typically park at The Boardwalk and walk to the Studios which is honestly a 15-20 minute walk. Hit what we want to hit. Have a bite to eat & maybe a few "beverages". Once it gets closer to 6:00 - 7:00 we walk back to EPCOT via the Boardwalk and do say Test Track in the single rider line or Mission:Space. Then head to grab our favourite spot to watch Illuminations.

I could ride Star Tours over and over and over again -- And usually do. This has always been one of my favourite parks and I look forward to what they have in store for it in the years to come.

To each their own always of course.

At 13 and 15, Jedi Academy isn't on the list! And, believe it or not, absolutely zero interest in Star Wars, so Star Tours has never been a go-to for us.
But if they like thrill/roller coaster style rides, then they would still enjoy it. It's a great simulator and the 3D effects are really cool. Diving into outer space and ending in a huge star fleet battle is exciting, even if you don't know where it's from.

I was just discussing the same dilemma with my DH just this morning. We don't have kids, but I'm also disappointed with 2 of my favorite attractions closed, and the potential for more to close. I still foresee having a blast- as I love DHS dearly. But I am considering making this a half day park now.

With them moving our Baymax and the Incredibles, I've decided to mostly skip it this trip. We originally had a morning till mid-day break planned there and a 4pm meal through fireworks on another day. We're skipping the morning day now and going to Universal instead. The one easy thing to do in order to offset so many closed attraction should be more character meets, instead they just removed the two biggest boy-centric meets in the park. They can keep their Doc McStufins, I'm taking my 4yo son to meet Curious George, Minions, Shrek and Scooby Doo.
