Thinking of painting Accent walls (pictures included)

I'm not a fan of accent walls, but if you really want to do one bold wall of color, than you should really paint the other walls a nice neutral color instead of leaving them white. the white looks stark in contrast with a bold color.

Olympic paint makes a color called "tightrope" which is a very soft taupe. It would look nice with a variety of accent colors.

I would paint the 2 walls in the dining area a taupe color to sorta seperate that area and warm it up. Then I would look for a more muted red for your accessories. Maybe have 3 red accessories and then choose another color to do 3 other accesories. Possibly brown, gold or gray accesories. Good luck!

I was thinking a light taupe, also. It would really help warm up the space, yet keep it light and airy.

I have been slowly updating my condo (redid the kitchen top to bottom last year) and have recently started getting a little bored with the white paint in my living room and am thinking of painting 2 'coordinating' accent walls in my living room and dining room. The two rooms are actually connecting (really - it is just one long room, which I am using as two), and the two 'accent' walls would be across from each other.

I have been playing around the Sherman Williams 'paint' website (I did not spend too much time outlining the wall, so use your imagination. LOL) and I think I like the following paint:

But I am not sure of:

1- Does the blue/green color coordinate enough with all the red accents in my house. I have a lot of red accent colors in my living room/dining room and kitchen.

2 - Should I paint the two walls (across from each other) or just one side?

3 - Will the 2 coordinating walls make the room look small? Will it look stupid? Make it look too much like one long room, instead of 2 separate areas?

4 - Should I just not bother? :rotfl: and leave good enough alone!

Any ideas appreciated. Thanks!

I don't love the color. I would probably go with a goldish yellow or a more sagey green than what you have.

I wouldn't do the two walls you have currently have painted. It looks more unfinished to me where you have the green on the back wall by the kitchen, it seems like it should go behind your hutch as well, and it looks sort of unfinished on the front wall where the windows are (maybe if there were a valance on the window I'd like it better). If that were my house, I'd paint either the whole room or if I wanted an accent wall, I'd do the wall where the TV cabinets are opposite the couch, that would pull the whole room together as one cohesive space.

I don't like accent walls. Personally, I would do a dark taupe color. It adds warmth and goes with just about anything.

I'm going to agree with everyone else. That color is a no-go.

I'd paint the whole place a taupe-y grey. Warm it up. It is modern. You need a modern color. Benjamin Moore has a color called Weimeraner which is along the lines I'm thinking.

I hate white walls. I don't mind accent walls, but they got to be done right. My DD has a bright pink accent wall in her room. It is the color she wanted but it was far too much for her tiny room. The other walls are pale pink.

Look at sites like Ikea and other modern furniture places for inspiration.

Wow! I have to be the descenting vote and say I do love that color! I even love it on the wall with the windows. It's ok on the smaller wall, but not as striking as on the window wall. I would NOT do red! Everybody does red or a variation of it and it's getting old. Not to mention it will take 10 coats to get it a good shade.

I go along with taupe color walls. Perhaps something a few tones darker than your sofa? Bring some color samples home & see what works.

A pp mentioned using tan with white woodwork. :thumbsup2 Don't remember the brand, but I used "Brown Bag" (self-explanatory) in our guest bed/bath to match up with bedding and was knocked out how well it worked with white trim. (I'm usually unpleasantly surprised by my paint choices. Ask about my short-lived terra cotta bedroom) :scared1:

Aside from that, I love your floors & tan/black/red color scheme and don't see a need to bring in another color. If you want green, maybe some plants? Since your rooms are modern, I'm wondering if you got creative, splashed your colors on a big canvas & placed it on the wall between the windows it might give you the "pop" you're looking for? Have fun with it.:goodvibes
