Our office recently re-located and we are very close to a Curves. Quite a few people in the office have joined and really like the program. I know a lot of people on this board have liked it as well.
They are running a special, sign up is $75 plus the first month's charge of $29.00. There would be a few of us that would go over at lunch time, so I would have a good buddy system. I really feel like I need to add something to my walking program.
A question for anyone who has done this program, does it get boring? Has it been helpful?
It certainly is cheaper than joining a gym, any input would be helpful.

Hi,
I have been going to CURVES since last February andI haven't found it to be boring ...yet. The Curves I belong to does make it interesting by having fun games and sometimes changing the direction that you go around although that does get confusing.

If you have never done a gym before then I think you will like Curves. Going with a group is a good idea too because then you have a support system if you need one. I go with the teachers from my school and we go daily.

Has it been helpful- YES!!!! I have lost 25 pounds and many more inches and have gone down two dress sizes.

Give it a try. Perhaps the Curves there has a 3 month deal like the one in my town.

If you do decide to join let us know how you are enjoying this fun place.

Thank you for your reply, I really thought that there were more people on this board that used curves, but I guess I was wrong.
I went over today and signed up and went one rotation on the machines watching the instructor first then doing a few reps myself and then 1 rotation on the machines on my own with the instructor watching me.
I am looking forward to going back on Wednesday!

Helen,

Sorry I didn't post earlier - work got busy! Anyway, I'm another Curves girl, and after 17 months, I still love it! I use it in combination with jogging (though I started with walking) and biking. You're fortunate to only have to pay $29/mo - I pay $39, but it's worth it.

Here's my reply to another thread about Curves:
Obviously, the best exercise program (for anyone) is the one you can commit to. If you feel that Curves isn't working for you, it will certainly be harder to stay commited to the workouts. Finding workouts that you enjoy and will make the time to do regularly is the most important issue.

For me, however, after 17 months, Curves is still working great! I still go 3x a week (as I have since the beginning), and I definitely sweat a bunch and finish exhausted but feeling great. And I'm still losing inches, weight, and body fat! I always push myself really HARD on all the machines (to the point of muscle exhaustion on most machines after the 30 seconds), and then jog in place on the recovery squares to keep my heart rate up. I've also started concentrating on contracting my abs on all the machines as well, to work my core as well as the target muscle group for each machine.

Of course, Curves isn't my only workout, as I also run in the mornings and take a weekly bike ride, but it is my only resistance workout, and I believe my muscle definition shows that Curves can be as effective as a conventional workout. It has helped me train to run two 10K races as well! And I love the atmosphere, and the convenience of a 30-minute workout that starts the minute I walk in the door - no waiting for machines to come available, no waiting around for a class to start, and no men! :p

As I said before, the best exercise program is the one that you can commit to - I just wanted to speak up as someone who still finds Curves to be a great workout.
Congrats on joining Curves. I'm sure it will help you reach your fitness goals!

I used it---but it got boring to me...I'm a seriously needs to sweat and feel the burn kind of gal for my body to really respond to the effort. I did lose a lot of inches and a couple of pounds. I am a stay at home mom with children....so the "it's only 30 minutes, come on" campaign was a sore spot for me as they don't have child care....so I had to spend over an hour--if I wanted to do the stretches you are supposed to do (and if I didn't do them there, they didn't get done at home).

If you are seeing results--it can be fun...but if you plateau......it is hard to break a plateau.

I have a local gym with swimming pool that I can use for $30 a month (Free if I volunteer 15 hours) and childcare is $20 per month for 2 kids which is cheaper than a baby sitter...so it works for me :)

Curves is a great way to get on that healthy bandwagon!

I love my curves. I know it's hard for moms, but for me it's the only way I can get my exercise. If I go on the way home from work, tehn the couch does not suck me up! The staff adn other members are SOOO friendly. I'm just about to hit my 1 yr anniv. there and I could not be happer!
