any suggestions??? i think i am leaning more towards the nook, but i am not sure because i really do not know a lot about them. any help would be great :) tia

After going back and forth for many weeks and many posts :lmao: I decided to go with the kindle. I reviewed many sites and just decided that this was the better option. But everyone on here will have their own opinion...some like the nook and some like the kindle. I don't think you will go wrong either way!

I finally broke down and bought one of the new Simple Touch Nooks when they came out this summer. It truly is amazing! I can borrow library books and download them straight onto it. It's super easy to use and I like the touchscreen.

If I had it all to do again, I'd go with another Nook. I can't believe with as much as I read that I waited this long to get one.

I have a nook and love it! I bought the original because I just wanted it solely for reading books. If you like magazines or want pictures on it then you may want the upgraded ones, but for just reading, the nook is working out great for me and quite easy to use.

A friend of mine is on the fence as well about which e-reader she wants to get. (I have a Nook Color.)

I recommend looking at a variety of e-readers in person. Barnes and Noble has a display of Nooks, and you can play around with them. I don't know if Kindles are available at a local store or if you can only purchase it on-line...anyone know? :confused3

As soon as I held a Nook Color in my hand, I knew that was the e-reader for me! And I know people who have said the same thing when held a Kindle. It's about personal preference.

For me, I like the LCD screen on my Nook Color. I also like the variety of font sizes and background color options. Makes for easy reading in the dark! ;)

I really love my NookColor. :cloud9:

Good Luck with your decision!

I loved my Nook Color when I had it. But it had to be replaced 4 times in 3 months so finally B&N agreed to give me my money back. But I really miss it. I have been debating to try another Color or go with their new version. I am just not sure that I can get used to the "flicker" that you don't get on the color.

I just bought a Kindle for a prize at work based on a recommentation from a co-worker, so I think it is just personal preference on faves/best.

my DH and I both have the Nook Color and LOVE them!! :thumbsup2 We downloaded movies to the Nook, so when we flew last month we could use the Nook Color to read or watch movies. it was fantastic. the only drawback is reading outside. I have a very hard time seeing the books outside in direct sunlight. (and the anti glare covers don't help much at all with that) but other than that, I absolutely love it !!!

I have the nook e-ink reader & I love it. I borrow tons of books through our library on it and they even have children's books that my daughter can borrow. I find it very easy on my eyes when reading & use it outside as well. It is easy to get set up and going!

I have a Nook Color and LOVE it!. Got to Best Buy and take a look at all of them. I personally do not like the e-ink. Yes, you get glare on a Nook Color but I don't read outside so it does not bother me. And I do not get eye strain from it at all.

My husband and I each have a Kindle and LOVE it. If you are just using it for reading books, and not magazines, the Kindle is really good. I suggest googling Kindle vs Nook and you can read articles where people have researched both and written reviews. Depending on what you wanted your ereader for, one might stand out as being better for you.

you can play around with most of the major brands - nook, kindle, sony - at a Best Buy.

I agree with both of these. I had an easier time holding/playing with the Nook displayed at Walmart than at B&N (but there was a password set on the ones at B&N, and no one around to tell you the password when I was trying to look). Kindles are available at Target and again have a display model that you can look at, hold, etc.

I think the Nook (or the ones I looked at/played with) were a little heavier than the Kindle, and, initially, I liked the weight of the Nook and how it felt better. But I had a hard time navigating the Nook (could just be me) and using the touchpad that was on it (again...likely just me....), so I went with the Kindle. I also like that the screen on the Kindle isn't backlit -- it is on the Nook Color.

I bought a Kindle in January and I just love it. I love to read, and I read even more now with the Kindle. I have no regrets!!

I have had a Sony ereader since 2008, love it! I can download from the library using Adobe. Best present ever! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

I have the original B/W Nook and love it. The reason I went with Nook is that you can download free books from the library. I also like the black and white because it's like reading a book. The color and extras just seem to make it more like a computer.

I bought a pretty case and skin for it online and bring it with me everywhere.

I had my mind set on the Nook and was just waiting for a "deal" to come around to buy it. My main reason was being able to borrow books from the library. I played with both the Nook and the Kindle in Best Buy and still had my mind set on the Nook. When I heard that the Kindle would have library access by the end of 2011, I STILL thought I wanted the Nook. THEN, I took a look at the ebooks I had downloaded to my smartphone. I have apps for Nook, Kindle and OverDrive Media Console (for library books). Out of all three, I had 19 Kindle books, 2 Media Console books and only 1 Nook book. My mind was made up. I bought the Kindle. I just found that there was more free content I was interested in with the Kindle than I did with the Nook. When it came down to it, the library feature was the ONLY thing I was wanting the Nook for and with that not being an issue in the near future there was no question. I bought the $139 wifi-3g version with the special ads. The ads are only shown when the unit is in "standby" mode so it's well worth the $50 discount, IMHO.

But it all comes down to what YOU want out of your ereader.

I have a question for all of you with E-Readers. Do you like a touch screen or not? I've tried a friend's Kindle and have a hard time with the buttons, I kept touching the screen to turn the page. Do you find it easy to use the buttons once you get use to the Kindle or would the Nook be better (doesn't the Nook have a touch screen)?

you pretty much hit it on the mark with this...i am really iterested in the library option. i did read that kindle is going to be able to do so later this year. so not only do i need to decide which one to get, but when lol :confused3

So why not wait until the holiday shopping season or so? I imagine that the library book system will be out by then and maybe you can get a deal, though I wouldn't count on it. But if you're so unsure about the library thing and you've waited this long, a few more months isn't a biggie.

In the meantime I suggest you search "kindle vs. nook" or "kindle, nook" or "ereader" "e-reader" etc. etc. on this forum. This topic has been done to DEATH and a lot of us have written a lot on it and maybe like myself are sick of writing about it so you aren't getting many lengthy responses. :rotfl:

But at least you know the functions are about the same for each. So I recommend going into B&N, trying out all the Nooks, then going to Target/Best Buy/Office Depot etc. and trying out a Kindle and whatever other brands they have there. That should give you a feel to which one has the best screen for you to read on, which one you like using better, etc. The best one to buy IMHO is the one you like using best.

Have there been any good deals lately for the Nook or it's accessories? I saw some small discounts a few months ago, but nothing lately.
