Thinking of dropping Ohana and picking up another...negative reviews everywhere!

We Love Ohana! In fact we are going 2 times in our upcoming trip! The quantity of food is great (my hubby and our friends enjoy that part) and the quality is very good. I cannot get enough of the salad and the bread pudding with Banana Fosters is amazing! I don't think the wait is ridiculous and we have eaten there at all different supper times. In fact in Setember when we were there last we had a party of 22 and the wait was nothing, the service was fast. If you think it is too fast as I have seen some people complain about, then ask them to slow down. I would definitely try it, it may surprise you and become your favorite must do restaurant at Disney! Also since I am not able to stay at the Poly, I relish anytime I can get to be there. If i had to kick back and wait 20 mins for our table to be ready, great! Pass me a Pina Colada and let the good times roll! lol :rotfl:I'm in Disney, What better place to sit and wait, and take in the atmosphere!:banana::banana:

We ate at Ohana an LOVED it!! The food was great and we ate soo much we barely could walk out. Just a tidbit of info, the shrimp they serve is yummy but some may find it a little spicy like my DH did.

We had a great time and plan to go back on next trip.

If you are easily swayed by reviews, by all means, cancel sooner rather than later. It will give the 5875479823768976285 people behind you trying desperately to get a reservation a chance. It books to near capacity at 180 days for a reason.

We have given Ohanas a couple of tries and its not bad, but we don't feel the hype many folks give it. The food is just ok for us, however I do have to admit that their pudding/ice cream dessert is to die for!!!! I have been wanting to book just for the dessert :)

I have also learned that when it comes to food opinions you will hear a bit of everything and you never will truly know until you try it for yourself. I would suggest not to cancel it and experience it, then you can make your own opinion for your families needs and likes. :)

You know, the same thought has run through my head too, but I was looking at pics of the food and changed my mind again. Worst case scenario is that the meal is not my fave for the trip, but it isn't going to ruin the trip! I have plenty of ADR's for places that we have been before and know we like, so this is like a lil adventure for us. I hope it is good though, because the pics make me want to lick the screen of my computer!:lmao:

Wow, I don't think I've ever seen this wide of a span of opinions about a restaurant in any city I've ever visited. I too was concerned about the negative reviews for 'Ohana and have considered canceling on a number of occasions but have decided to stay with it particularly since our departure date is fast approaching and ADRs will be harder to get.

My concern is that our ADR at 'Ohana is for 8:15p the night we're there. It was the only one I could get. Is there a danger of us getting the "dregs" of the evening by that time? I'd hate to get there and find out they were out of bread pudding or that the only meat left was the butt ends of the skewers.

BTW, I'm not too worried about having to wait a half hour or so to be seated. I was at a Red Lobster on a Lenten Friday recently, so I know from waiting! ;)

The favorite meal of all 7 of us (3 generations) in our 10 night trip. :thumbsup2

My parents were very surprised. They had gone there for breakfast with my sisters the year before and it was the worst meal of their trip. They would never have given it a second chance if I had not made the reservation and insisted on them coming with us.

I actually had them over for dinner a few weeks ago and I made the chicken wings and dessert. :cloud9:
(The meal was so memorable, that my three kids surprised us by coming downstairs in the outfits they had worn to Ohana.)

I love it. So much in fact that we are starting out trip with it (dinner) and ending with it (breakfast)

We are doing the same thing!!

We have eaten at 'Ohana 3 times since 2006 and never had a problem. If I were you I would give it a try. We love it.

this is one place where there seems to be no in between, either love it or hate it

If it is somewhere you want to try go for it! Hopefully you will be pleasantly surprised and have a great time :cool1:

personally, I would not go backl for a free meal :sad2: 3 strikes and never again

We tried it once (glad we did), but we won't go back. Just nothing special IMO. Except for the bread pudding, the food was all just OK. Nothing I would crave again. Service was kind of meh. Coconut races were kind of pitiful if you ask me. I thought the kids activities would be better. It just seemed like going through the motions - no actual joy.

The only memorable part of the meal was the bread pudding. I was not hungry and there was tons of uneaten food crowding the table, but I thought, hey, the waiter brought it so I'll take a bite. I don't even like bananas, and that stuff was unbelievably good. Even so, we won't be back. Too many other wonderful dining experiences to be had. 'Ohana is pretty low on our list.

I like ohana's. If it is your first time, I say do it. We went the last 2 yrs in a row, so although it's not a bad restaurant, it's just not as exciting to us anymore. But I say try it at least once.

We went inspite of the reviews cause I believe I have to try it for myself. But we didn't like it. The food is smoked and we don't like smoked food.

We wanted to try Ohana's I originally had a reservation when I first made ADR"S however due to travel issues I had to change our resort reservations by a day therfore we wouldn't be ther for Ohana adr, had to cancel, I have been checking for 3 weeks now trying to catch a ressie that some one cx's.
Darn I just missed one.......
Maybe tomorrow :)

Actually all restaurants get a mix of reviews.. I mean we dont all like the same thing right? Now that said Ohana is a first night tradition with us, has been since 2005. The only time i ever had a problem was 2008 b/c the meats seemed over cooked but since then its been great!

the last time we ate there was the first week of dec 2010. we had a 545 adr so i can't comment on how it would be at the end of the night. we often make our adrs at 8pm or later when we go to wdw in the winter months since the parks close so early and i've not had that be an issue at other venues tho like i've run into at home. we like grilled meats so for us it was good. i didn't like the salad or pot stickers but the wings and noodles were fine. there was enough to choose from that everyone in our group was able to find something they liked. i went in expecting basically a bbq type experience and that's what i got so i wasn't disappointed. the only thing that was funny/weird for us was we were the outside table basically in turn one of the coconut race racetrack...learned to watch out REAL quick.

Besides the coconut races and atmosphere, I keep reading that the food at O'Hana's is not the best...anyone else switching or have switched b/c of the reviews?

When are you going and if it is when I'm going can we have your ressie? :lmao:
