Thinking of doing QSDP instead of DDP...any thoughts?

It is me and my 2 kids, ages 5 and 8. They've been to Disney a lot, so we don't have to rush to see everthing. We've done the regular dining plan since its inception. Last 2 trips, though, I found myself uncomfortably full and not enjoying it so much. I'm going in Feb. and thinking of just doing QSDP. Any thoughts? Will I miss my steak and being served? Will there be enough variety?

Thanks!

We just did QSDP in August and loved it. I've never been on any other plan but this was part of the free dining promotion for our resort level. It was so good, we've even talked about paying for it next time we go.

Not having to worry about being at the right place at the right time everyday was a huge plus. We were always able to find something delicious to eat at every park and resort, LOVED having 2 snack credits, and still made 2 or 3 reservations and paid OOP to "fill in the gaps."

Some of my favorite meals were at QS locations (WPE in DTD and Tangerine Cafe in EPCOT). We are just 2 adults, but I would imagine the kids will appreciate not having to sit down for a long meal everyday, too.

My tip: There are still a lot of desserts on the plan, so exchange one or both for a bottle of water. You'll stay hydrated and can use a snack credit on some delicious pastry or ice cream concoction instead of eating chocolate cake twice a day.

DS and I did the regular DP each time until the QSDP came out, and we've been hooked ever since. It is SO nice to not be tied to ADR's... We can eat where we want, when we want, and eat well. And we looooove all those snack credits!! :cloud9:

I'm not sure if you'll miss being served or not, but it didn't make any difference to me. And I very much liked not having to budget for tips at sit-down places. We love 'Ohana, so that is our one OOP must-do, but I don't miss any of the rest of it. :)

We are doing the QSDP this trip. I don't think I'll ever do a bigger or more expensive plan until our son is quite older. He barely eats anything at all. Plus we normally like to just go somewhere, eat and leave. We'd rather spend more time doing whatever than doing ADRs. We have 2 breakfast ADRs booked this trip though, but that is all.

I also wrestled with this for our early January trip.

We get the free QSDP for staying at the POP and had originally planned on just paying oop for 3 character meals. When I got to looking that was about what it cost to upgrade to DDP.

I am also concerned that it will be miserably cold during our trip (I hate being cold) and wanted a place to sit and eat where I wouldn't freeze.

I think there is enough variety in CS meals that you shouldn't have any issues. I think, for us, the issue would have been frequent trips to DTD to eat at WGP Express--that would have taken quite a bit of time.

We just returned and loved the QSDP!!! We did the regular plan a couple of years ago, and really enjoyed it as well, but we enjoyed not being tied down to reservation times. It made our trip a lot more carefree and we ate some amazing food!!!!
We were a little worried because our youngest wasn't 3 yet, so she didn't have the dining plan. She's not a huge eater, but I thought we might have to order her a meal here and there. Not the case, the portions were huge!!!!! And having 2 snack credits was crazy fun!!! The night before we left, we had 24 snack credits left, so the kids went crazy picking out stuff to bring home!!!

I have to agree with everyone. My DH and I have used the regular DP in the past and felt "tied-down" to our reservations. Please don't get me wrong...we loved trying some TS that we normally wouldn't have paid OOP for and the last time, we did several 2TS and loved them.
This time, however, we felt like we would rather have the freedom of the QSDP. We have so many CS favorites that we feel we have skipped in the last few trips and we are really looking forward to it. I also have a couple of TS that I want to do (OOP, of course!)

We are doing the QSDP this December. I think we'll like be able to flex our schedule how we want and that we'll be too into looking around and having fun to worry about being served.

We did the regular DDP a few times. We enjoyed it but hate being tied down to an ADR every day. We've done the QSDP several times. It gives us more flexibility to eat when we want to eat. Also we can squeeze in a couple of TS meals. It just works better for our touring style.
