Thinking of Canceling Trip/ADR Wait

I am thinking of cancelling our April trip due to this ADR mess and waiting to make them business. We are complete foodies who do the deluxe dining plan and plan our trip around our meals instead of vice versa With the news coming out that now we may have to wait till December to make ADR's for our April trip, I just think our chances of getting our top restaurant choices will be diminished. I'm a super planner and always have everything set at 180 days on our past trips.

My DH kinda wants to go to Universal anyway this time around (the shame of it all!)

We are staying at the Contemporary for 10 days. So, my question is, do you think I should cancel and maybe take a trip another time (or god forbid go to Universal) or stick with the plan and wait and hope that I will get my ADR's when I finally get to call in December.

Why not wait and cancel only if you don't get what you want? You'll still be outside the 45 day window, and you may be pleasantly surprised. Why decide now?

I would wait for now. At least the ADR's aren't getting grabbed by other people so you may still get your choices.

Correct me if I'm wrong as I'm not totally familiar with the ADR system changes, but doesn't everyone else going at the same time as you have to wait to make ADRs? If that's the case then it's not like the best restaurants will be totally booked when you call right?

As PP said, I'd call in December and try for your ressies with everyone else and see what you come out with.

We are going over the spring break time/easter time actually the tail end of the easter break time. It's a crazy busy time. We go every year at that time though and love it. Anyway, like I said, I am a crazy planner. If we have to go somewhere else, I need to plan that now. Looks like the consenus is to wait though!

Now that I think about it, I am always worried about the 180 + 10 people who can make ADR's for reservations for days of their stay. Because those 10 days would overlap our trip time after Easter break. But, if they can't make them till December and I can't make them till December, they won't overlap? We all have the chance of making them at the same time because it is no longer 180 days out. Right?

Maybe I will wait and kinda also look for a backup vacation as well.

I'd wait and see.

If you decide to do Universal, it's alot of fun and if you stay at one of the resorts onsite, there's not even much planning needed. We Universal too.

I would wait to cancel, and see what you can get when the ADR window opens. Like someone said before, everyone else has to wait to make their ADR's.

There is a great restaurant at Universal called Mythos. They have a very interesting menu for us foodies. DH and I ate there last year and absolutely loved it. Also City Walk at Universal has a Bubba Gump Shrimp restaurant. I know it's a chain restaurant not especially designed for foodies, but it was a very fun place to dine.

I really wanted to give DD who will be 6 when we go one last "hooray" with the princesses. Where she can go to BBB and still enjoy dressing up and eating with the characters. I think by our next trip, she will have outgrown all that little girlie stuff. That is why we were not planning Universal this time around. Now, I am rethinking our decision. Doesn't pay to plan character meals for her only to have them full when I finally get to call in for my ADR's.

Universal might be a great alternative!
