My husband & I are going to buy a resale contract. I have found a HHI contract that meets our budget needs & I was wondering how easy it is to get into the WDW DVC resorts at 7 months out. We normally travel at off times because we don't have kids...Oct-Nov/May & we would mostly likely just need a studio. I don't want to buy HHI if we will have trouble getting into WDW DVC resorts, but my husband is sold on the lower price.

Correct me if I am wrong, the only difference your home resort makes is the 11mos vs 7 mos reservation window????

Thanks for your help.
:goodvibes

Our next door neighbors did exactly what you are talking about. They wanted the lower maintenace that goes with the HHI contract. They have never had a problem booking some of the most popular WDW resorts (BWI, BCV and VWL) at the 7 month window.

You are correct, the home resort advantage is the 11 month booking window.

Good luck with your decision! You will love being members!

Having the flexibility of travelling when you want to, you should have no problems getting 7 month reservations at a DVC resort at WDW. Now, you might not be able to get reservations at VWL or BCV but you sure should be able to get in somewhere especially SSR or OKW. I would have no qualms in doing what you are thinking about doing. We own points at both VWL and HHI and love both resorts.

Ok, I have had a very hard time in the past at HH in June, July, etc. using my 7 month window.
I was on wait lists, etc. I bought a re-sale at HH. I now go every other year, and book at my 11 month window...NO MORE WAITLISTS!!

Thanks everybody for your quick responses. They helped me feel more comfortable. We are doing it!!!!!! Yeah, hopefully if everything goes well we will be DVC members in 6 weeks. :cool1: I am so excited. :cheer2:

We weighed the pro's and con's and cost and we decided on HH too. Basically, I figure at 7 months, we could always get OKW or SSR. We also wanted the 11 month advantage for HH for summers since we live in NC.

When we bought, there was a credit from last years dues, so our dues this year are $3.88.

I'm going to start calling on Wednesday for our Dec trip to WDW, so I'll post how our 7 month luck went.

Thanks Cruise-o-matic...I will be interested in how you fair. Pixie dust for getting what you want. :wizard:

We bought HHI because we love it and experience led us to believe that a summer ressie at 7-month could be difficult.

We'll go to WDW every other year and so far have not had much trouble getting in at 7-months. You will need fleixibility between the various WDW resorts, though. We've been able to secure ressies at BCV and OKW, and are resigned to take what ever is available.

Go for it. You'll love it.

I have HH and bought as a resale. I have no problems with the 7 month window. I look at all the resorts at WDW as one resort. You can all always get a res at one of them. God for bid if you have to stay at OKW or SSR if you cant get your first pick. Any way, 7 months no problem.

I am so excited to hear that 7mos isn't a big deal.....we can be flexible about where we stay & when we go so it sounds great to me......
Obsessed Disney geek that I am....I've been playing around & have vacations planned until 2011.......I know, I'm a nut. :rotfl2: But, I'm so excited. :cheer2:

There is a lot of speculation here that it will become harder in the future at the 7 month window, and I suspect it is accurate. How hard, no one knows. You are going at it correctly though, if you can adjust your scheduling and are not set on staying at one particular resort. The bigger resorts are probably going to have the most openings, but lots of DVCers travel "off season" so you will have to be flexible at times.

Good luck with your purchase!!!

Our experience is that it's a LOT harder getting into HH at the 7 month window than it is getting onto WDW property at 7 months. You shouldn't have much trouble if you can be flexible (BWV or BCV can be a challenge for your Oct/Nov time frame because of Food & Wine, but OKW or SSR should be doable), AND if you really book at 7 months. At 3 months, all bets are off :rotfl:

My pending purchase at HH just went to Disney today. I've got my
fingers crossed we make it through ROFR! I decided to add-on there for the lower point cost, as well as 11 month window at HH. :hourglass :earboy2:

Good Luck disfountainofyouth--I'll send pixie dust your way :wizard: if you will do the same for me. We are mailing our downpayment & contract today.
We just got back last Saturday from a week on Hilton Head & checked out the DVC resort while we were there & it absolutely beautiful. We didn't get to see the beach house though so I can't wait to see it eventually.

Disneygrl36,

We debated ourselves over HHI and a Disney resort when we bought. We ended up with BWV as our home resort.
That was a few months ago.
Now, jump to May, we kind of wish we had gone the HHI route. Cheaper price, lower fees. Plus, the huge advantage of getting the 11 month window for summer/peak time.

We went in April to HH at my kid's spring break and didn't have too much trouble. Was waitlisted one night for a studio, but it came through. But, I was told from about late April through Aug., it would be extremely difficult to get anything.

Anyway, we fell in love with HHI. And so when we get the money, we will probably add on there. We go to Wrightsville beach for our weeks vacation in the summer time right now anyway, so I guess we can wait.

And, when we book our trip to DW, I guess we will be very happy about BWV being our home resort.

Good luck. Let us know how it goes!!!

Reesecup,
LOL....maybe we can do point trades later if we need to for us to get BWV at 11mos & you to get HH at 11mos. :cool1:
I am happy with our decision & can't wait to start making reservations once we pass FROR.
We had originally decided on a BWV contract, but then go to thinking about the lower price, lower maintenance fees etc & decided on HH instead.
Hopefully, things will work out fine & we can be flexible at WDW anyway--although I do have my heart set on staying at all of them at least once.
Good luck to you to.

I don't mean to rain on anybody's parade, but remember you are only gauranteed to use your points at the resort you own at. DVD retains the right to remove any resort out of the Disney Vacation Club. If by some chance,(which I hope never happens) DVD should decide to sell it's off property resorts, such as Hilton Head and Vero Beach, then you would not be able to use your points at the other DVC resorts.

I love Disney's Hilton Head Resort. My family stays at 2 bedroom villas there in the summer. I hope DVD will never sell it.

:sad2: Oh my gosh, I never even thought about that........good lord. I've heard it's pretty hard to get into in the summer & stuff, so why would they sell it?????????????Please, someone tell me this isn't really a possiblity. :sad2:

This is the second contract I am buying site unseen, first was BCV.
That turned out to be a great choice!
