My family of 4 goes to Disney at least once a year, twice if we could swing it! We like to stay at least 10 days each time and our trips average 3,500-4,500. How many points would we need to purchase and what is the most econominal way to buy them? What is the monthly cost? I'm trying to understand all of this...we met with a guide in May but I forgot a lot of what he said! I'm going to dig out all the paperwork he gave us today and will appriciate any help I can get!

Points required for your 10 day stays depend on where you want to stay and the time of year. If you go every year, like we do, plan on finding the specific week and go from there, point wise. We based our purchase on the possibility of traveling to Disney during April vacations and Christmas....usually the highest point times. So far we haven't so we have been able to extend some stays and rent points out as well. Good luck...DVC is a great way to travel. We were paying around $5000 a week to stay......should have bought in 5 years ago when I wanted to....

You sound like perfect candidates for DVC. You also seem to travel a lot like we do. Since you plan on 2 times a year, look at the point charts at the top of this page and figure out the point totals for your usual travel times at the different DVC resorts. You will also need to do a bit of research about the DVC resorts to know which you want as a home resort. You then purchase the number of points you expect to need annually from either Disney or a timeshare resaler. You will make this purchase much the same way you do a purchase for a new car or a piece of property. You can choose to pay for it all upfront or with a down payment and monthly payments. I would suggest doing as much as you can afford to paid in full, and if you must finance, think abouit a home equity loan or something like that to accomplish it. Remember that timeshares have maintenance fees, and you will have to pay those as well. Many of us have those deducted automatically once a month, so it is relatively painless.

There are a lot of things you need to learn about, like use years and point useage, but find that paperwork first, and then start asking some specific questions here.

Thank you so much for the quick responses! I'm going to research everything tonight and hopefully it will all start to make sense!
