Thinking of booking June cruise

We are thinking of booking a June Eastern Carib. cruise. We would only go if we feel it's safe at that time. I'm trying to stay hopeful that we will be through the worst of everything, knowing that it's unknown at this time. My question is: if we book now and purchase insurance through Disney, what are our options if we just don't feel it's safe to go in June? So, if the cruise isn't cancelled but we don't feel it's a good idea, how much of our money would be refunded?

Thanks!

We have a cruise booked for the end of July. I don't expect it will sail. I'm still proceeding as if it will, but I doubt it.

Nobody can speculate on what Disney's cancellation policy will be moving forward, we can only say what it has been. Currently they are letting those that are past their PIF with a cruise that's coming up soon (and hasn't been cancelled already) move to a future cruise date but all the money had to be used on one future cruise. Any amount over and above the fare would be placed in an onboard account for that cruise. If they start cruising again will that be the policy again? No clue. Canceled cruises are fully refunded or provided the opportunity to use that money for a future cruise (plus a little extra).

As far as I know, Disney's insurance doesn't have a cancel for any reason and while I haven't read the policy, MOST trip insurance doesn't cover pandemics.

Honestly, I would just wait and see how this plays out. It's not like opening day where people are scrambling to book cruises. Chances are, if Disney IS sailing, that cruise will still be there.

We have a cruise booked for June and I'm fully expecting that it's going to be cancelled and I've got a Plan B cruise on my mind (August) and a Plan C cruise (2021). I think it will be easier to book something once we all know what's going on rather than deal with the stress and headache of rebooking or getting a refund should a cruise be cancelled.

I would be concerned with the insurance period at this point. There may or may not be a clause for pandemics, or for purchasing while knowing the travel may not be a good idea (thinking of similar to preexisting health conditions).

I would love to be planning travel, as it is a hobby of mine, and one trip has already been postponed indefinitely. The second is likely to be canceled.

Best of luck in making a tough decision.

Cancel for any reason only covers 75% of your cost as a future travel credit. So the true cost is the cost of the insurance plus 25% of your fare.

My personal take is that it's extremely unlikely June cruises will go, and you'll probably end up with a refund. (And still be out the cost of insurance) So why even put any money down on it? Wait to see what happens over the next month or two.

Right now, they are offering credit on any cruise up to May 31, 2020. What will happen after that is anyone's guess, much less when DCL will resume operations. I'd say making a reservation right now is a bit of a gamble, but you can look at it this way: If things are still crazy in a couple of months, you'll be able to get credit for the cruise, and probably any airline fare as well. Don't look for refunds though...those will only be offered if DCL cancels or the airline cancels.

We were supposed to board the Magic on Monday and have a healthy credit on both DCL and JetBlue. I was thinking about booking a late June cruise on the Dream, and what's the worst case? Getting another credit on both? Whereas best case is that I get to go on a cruise!

I am booked for a December cruise and I am worried that it would not be a go. I don’t think booking a cruise for June at this moment is a good idea. I have a trip in July from Toronto to Ottawa/Montreal, and I am not so optimistic about that as well.

it's a toss-up right now whether that June cruise will happen. Since there is no way to predict DCL's cancellation policy for June, you shouldn't book the cruise right now. Instead, keep your eye on it over the next two months, while this pandemic plays itself out and we all get a better idea of what will happen. That cruise is not going to sell out or increase in price- that much is certain. So no need to rush to book yet. In mid-May, you'll have a good idea if cruises will resume in June, and you can book then if you wish. Same goes for the flightsm if you'll need them. Right now flights are being cancelled right and left, and prices are so low that they can't get prohibitively expensive by May, si if I were you I'd wait to book that, too.

So you might get a chance to sail, but booking it early would be a mistake imo. Fortunately with a Disney cruise (unlike the parks), it's no big deal if you don't plan it way in advance.

I believe booking a June cruise is not a great idea. I'm holding off traveling for a while until the pandemic dies down. My DCL cruise next month to Hawaii most likely will be cancelled (still waiting the official word from DCL and to get a refund hopefully). Canada is denying any large cruise ships +500 or more from docking until 07/01/2020. Even if you're able to cruise in June, I'm worried that certain ports might deny any passengers from disembarking for port excursions.

I actually did book a June cruise this week. I was one of those offered a 125% credit for my cancelled sailing, and was able to use it towards a cruise that was discounted significantly for Florida residents. We were able to upgrade from a 4 day to a 7 day. We live close to the port so no need to also book flights/hotel. I figure worst case scenario, we get a refund or rebook (again), best case scenario, we finally take the Disney cruise we've been dreaming about for years.

No issue with booking it as long as you do realizing that there is a decent chance it may not actually happen.

Our family is in the same exact boat. We have a 150% credit and live close by so easier for us to be cancelled last minute. I'm watching the prices on the June cruises and would likely book right away should they extend the cancellation policy through June.

With that said, I am also eyeing November as we can get two of the same verandah rooms for our 5 person family for about the same price as my March cruise and allowing us to use the additional 50% credits on additional activities, etc.

Our cruise departs PC on June 1 after three days in Disney World. The trip was a gift to our granddaughters for Christmas. I am 60 and my husband 62/I want to reschedule the cruise, but the cut off date is May 31. All we want is the credit. I've already booked the same exact cruise for next year. If worst comes to worst, I will cancel this cruise mid-April and lose my initial deposit of $1185. 😔 Sucks that I would have to do that though/I booked through DIS. I have extended the trip to Disney World/not out anything there if it's not open yet. Booked on DVC points and SWA points. Park passes won't be activated if we can't go so I can convert those to annual passes next year.
