Thinking DVC - Questions Need Answering

Thanks ahead of time to anyone who responds!

My wife and I are considering buying a dvc resale. My brother and sister in law are as well.

Question 1 - Can you purchase a resale and split the points of two separate deeds? (for example, we purchase 350 points and we take 150 and the take 200)

Question 2 - We'd like to stay on July. Should we only be looking for an August use year or can we be more flexible when looking for a resale?

Q1. No, you may not split the points into separate deeds.

Q2. Generally you would like your use year to begin shortly BEFORE when you usually take your vacations. If you normally vacation in July, then an April use year would be a better choice. The idea being that if for some reason you have to cancel your vacation on short notice, you will have more time to either re-schedule or rent points that are in holding.

Do a search for a thread called Understanding Use Year. It will help you decide which use year will work best for you travel patterns.

Use year has nothing to do with how far ahead you can make a reservation. Many newbies are confused about that at first.

Only DVC can sell you a specific # of points, otherwise the contract is the contract (points and use year) - no alterations.
